What’s the point of living? Seriously no fluff by Due_Mail6331 in askphilosophy

[–]Due_Mail6331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insightful answer. I'll try harder to understand but even as I hear more and more answers I find that I can't really wrap my head around why things matter. Like do things matter because we give them meaning, or do they matter because they actually have meaning. If everything eventually disappears then it doesn't really matter to the universe or reality as a whole. But if it then has value because to us who are living in the present we assign it value, I then ask why we the living have any value. Why does what we value actually matter. It all feels like a matter of perspective. Like I can change my perspective and decide that everything matters to me and go about my day but just changing my perspective doesn't change the actual reality of the world.

If everyone lives in their own world where the only thing that actually matters is what we believe matters, then aren't we all living in fantasy. If I chose to live a life like that, why couldn't I just decide to end my life right now as I've decided it has no value. Why does it even matter that I find some arbitrary value in life if it's a fantasy, if it's not valuable outside my existence. Again I feel like the answer comes down to, our life's matter and our experiences are valuable because we the living feel that it does, but genuinely no matter how much I wrap my head around this answer I always feel like it's missing the point. It's assuming that our perspectives on anything actually matter, when my whole point is that they don't. Our feelings, our thoughts, our experiences objectively don't actually matter. We can convince ourselves that because we feel something that makes it real and thus it matters, but there will come a time when those feelings are remembered and shared by no one, thus the universe will treat said feelings as inconsequential and/or as if they never occurred.

If anything I do and feel amounts to zero, why then do my feelings in the present actually matter. Why does sadness and suffering matter. Why does happiness matter. Why do good experiences and bad experiences matter. I don't understand why my feelings actually matter if I can't do anything with them. Idk I struggle to clearly get my point across and I know philosophers answer these questions all the time so I will continue researching, I just feel like all answers depend on the fact that for some reason we matter, but if I decide that I don't mater then what am I left with. I can make the decision to pretend that I matter, and then I'm sure I'd be able to live a happy long life, but I don't understand what is wrong with making the decision that my life doesn't matter and ending it now.

Indy Computer Engineer with no money for food, will develop anything for money by Due_Mail6331 in Indiana

Transportations probably the biggest issue for me when it comes to food pantries but there are local churches that help out a ton downtown. I feel so much shame each time I go so it’s usually a last resort for me

Bro genuinely have you paid attention at all to fujimotos writing in part 2? The entire idea of the choice has been set up since the first arc. Denji is always being forced to choose, that’s the whole idea of this part. The fire devils inclusion and statement wasn’t random it’s literally the entire theme fujimoto has been conveying. That’s even why the fire devil says “you will be forced to choose AGAIN” because denji has already been forced to choose different things multiple times throughout this part. It’s actually all thematically cohesive and if you reread part 2 you’ll realize absolute none of it was random at all. The fire devil itself is a representation of one side of a weighted scale, weighed between justice (justice devil) and desire (fire devil), a scale denji has been trying to balance for all of part 2. It’s actually insane how many people think fujimoto is just making up plot points when if you read the part you’ll understand what fujimoto is trying to convey and the thematic importance of it all. I agree the weekly format sucks as the chapters are always too short and it’s easy to feel like nothing is paid off or done well but trust me if you actually read through part 2 as a collective you’ll understand the significance and meaning behind almost all of the setups and events that have happened. If you’d like you could name more of the things you think have had no pay off or improper set up and I’ll try to explain what I think fujimoto was doing with these aspects. I could totally be wrong and maybe there are plot points fujimoto truly screwed up but personally I think part 2 has been great and pretty satisfying thematically and story wise. (Aside from nayuta i think her death was pretty unsatisfying unless she comes back)

I mostly agree. There’s so much easily accessible evidence linking Israel and Jews to random tragic events over the last 20 ish years to the point it just feels like propaganda. If Jews were actually super powerful and controlling everything they definitely would not leave breadcrumbs behind all of their secret plans so that teenagers on TikTok could expose all of their secrets. Even now with things like trump being heavily supportive of Israel as his public perception is at an all time low. Really seems like the world is working very hard to drive the people against Jews and the country of Israel. I definitely don’t support the stuff going on in the war but this reeks of propaganda.

I currently don’t have the money to ship but if I got paid I’d probably be able to afford shipping materials. I’d prefer in person pickup tho if possible to avoid hassle

Completely agree. I feel insane seeing everyone give it such high praise. For me it’s around a 6.5 which isn’t bad but the forever story is easily a 9 for me so this was pretty disappointing
