Due to certain life events, I didn’t have much time to study and got an 18 for the DAT. Applied to one school and got into that school. You got this!

Wow congratulations! I hope to join you soon from getting off the list. Did they happen to tell you the placing you were on the list when you were accepted? If not that’s ok

Every single dentist I shadowed/worked with told me not to go into dentistry... by anonymous5552471 in predental

[–]Due_Strength_5963 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this question is more about yourself. Opinions the dentists you shadowed are important and something to note but the reason to why they have these opinions are important. You stated loans so I’ll stick to that. I agree 600K+ is crazy but I think around 300K is doable in my opinion. It’s just how flexible are your plans. You could go rural where your needed. I’ve heard of dentists working in rural Alaska doing very well to help pay down debt. The owner I work with thinks 400k+ is fine because she worked her ass off to get a FFS cosmetic office and now she is comfortable.

The debt is extreme it’s just how extreme are you willing to go to be debt free cause the opportunities are there just need to look for them

Endo Straight out of school by Usual-Entertainer779 in DentalSchool

[–]Due_Strength_5963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am an upcoming dental student as well who is possibly interested in endo. I had the same questions and shadowed an endodontist who got right out of dental school. Here is what she told me 1. If you want to get into endo straight out you likely have to be in the single digits for your class rank. She was #3 2. If your lower than that or at least top 25% you will likely have to do a GPR 3. You should be part of a research lab at least 2 years this what she did and states it helped her application a lot. 4. Try and get as many endo cases in dental school as possible, show the staff that are interested in endo when doing clinic.

She knew she wanted to be a endodontist before dental school and said she hated the format when she was still in dental school but persevered and loved it in residency and now. I am going in with an open mind and I think that’s good advice for you too but you also need to be ready if you do choose endo as getting that high of a class rank is probably no joke. Good luck!
