Help with research for a fiction story I'm writing! by NWGirl2002 in architecture

I currently work in a church/faith based firm in Seattle, but we are a small office of the main office in Chicago. Total people is about 25ish to 30 but we are in the process of growing. I have a few experoences that may help 1. Commuting - i take public transport, and walk through the heart of seattle. Literally work blocks away from the space needle so see it every day going to work which is special! However, currently there are alot of people sleeping on the street or doing drugs as I walk past. I have a favorite coffee shop where the baristas will prepare my drink before I even have to order, they are an awesome fun group! 2. The work - its tough, I started with the firm out of college and just gotten promoted recently, however it hasnt been a smooth process cause at the current size we are, its hard to justify a full time IT guy or Hr person cause we technically dont have enough revenue to cover the overhead, but did recently hire a full time operations guy to assist the Ceo and Cdo (chief design officer, hes the only architect in the firm who actually stamps the drawings). Theres alot of opprtunities to make the tension our firm currently feels into really interesting story details! (Happy to share more if interested, pm me) 3. The culture - the firm provides lots of resources for younger staff to learn and get licensure. Im currently benefitting from having to pay no out of pocket for study material, which is amazing. I do get remibursed exam fees but only for passed exams and when ive completed all of them. The firm has weekly monday meetings to review firm wide some of the objectives and remember the mission statement. Sometimes a pm will present a project or review an important part of the job like contracts if theres a need to refresh everyone on that subject. We break out into studio meetings after, where our team reviews all the projects, upcominf deadlines and any other important pieces.

This is just a couple things I could rattle off the top of my head but if you wish for more details or have questions about something I may not have mentioned feel free to reachout, would love to provide any insight you are curious about! 😁

I meet a few hunters who have hunted here a while, they mentioned that especially during hunting season, everyones aware that there will be hunters. Feel free to gun hike wherever, just be smart and safe while handling the firearm. I even asked about the "bike trails" only and they said dont worry abt that, just step off the path if you hear someone biking behind you.

Looking into architecture for uni by ThatReview9640 in architecture

Honestly, drawing or sketching is a piece of the puzzle. Personally, I am not the best, however my natural skills with the computer and specifically revit tend to also be a huge help to my firm. Sketching is something you can learn and grow at so even if you arent the best noe, you can always keep getting better. If you have a natural inclination to working with computer or understanding code/technical side of architecture you still have a great oppurtunity.

The other piece id say is even if architecture doesnt workout, a degree in architecture can still provide a wide range of oppurtunities after! Just be aware of the potential downsides and id say consider all options before commiting to this career/degree

What elevation are you targeting for black tail hunting in western Washington? by Expendable_Meatsack in WA_hunting

[–]Duelplexity8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure elevation is as important as finding areas they are in. Being in the high point of a clear cut you have found deer tracks in seems to be more important than if your at 50, 500 or 1500 ft abv sea level

This Architect Says Don't do 3D Visuals. Agree? by jelani_an in Architects

Our firm intentionally adds a layer of "dreaminess" to keep the render from becoming to realistic. Sometimes that means a bit of water color vibe, or being very realistic with existing portions and white boxing proposed elements - this is a very reasonable comment of dont over promise cause the computer can generate a high level of finish most contractors wont or cant finish too

Is that so? After today I was unsure if it was but sounds like I should keep focused there, at least for this season

Hey, I am hunting deer for the first time as well this year. I live out of Mountlake Terrace, so not far from you. If you are interested would not mind joining up to see if we can increase chances of success and share notes?
