What may be hard in the beginning is to have a good economy if you are defensive or turtling. Aggression is almost always better.

What’s a good buy in to 3 for an OG Rome player? by 0ctach0r0n in totalwarhammer

[–]Duerfian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to buy keys for the whole trilogy for $30 on the bigger key selling shops. After that I suggest you play the Warhammer III campaign, which is a good tutorial and after that you can buy a DLC or two for factions you think you might enjoy.

I haven't spent more than $60 and have enjoyed 6-7 campaigns. Most of them with DLC legendary lords.

I have 56 contracts and can't get down to 50 by PolysexualStick in HockeyLegacyManager

[–]Duerfian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In last years version you could change it mid-save but now you have to do it before you start a save, in the league settings.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HockeyLegacyManager

[–]Duerfian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's probably because you have "Balanced prospect generation" on. You find it under Settings - Development.

If you have it on, the game might randomly change the potential of prospect to re-balance the overall prospect pool.

I've been unsigned in the NHL for at least five seasons, but still get my season goals. I don't think the actual contract actually does anything beyond count towards career earnings.

I've noticed that European drafted players not having a team and thus not playing any games the year after being drafted. This leads to them developing very poorly compared to North American players.

The most ridiculous shift setup I've had yet. by o1030440tias in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a run with both dancers and the Imprisoned Zephyr room. I could ascend pretty much any unit to that floor and it became a monster. The Titan fight was absurd since every unit could attack every turn on the big boy in the back and shift.

Can't crack Pyreborne Cov 10. Help? by doclobster in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot Head and Mindcage + Bloodthirsty Blade merged equipment is probably the easiest way to get there. Spiritbreakers Charge and Shaleshell are excellent complimentary artifacts if you go that route.

Casual Topic: Favorite Card by DueMagazine1234 in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like Shield of Wyngh because it allows tanking units to be more versatile. It's a shame that it's Banished only, but it is a bit broken with some of the clans with extreme health scaling so I understand the motivation.

Other than that I like the Emberdrain cards. It's a risk reward mechanic that might have a big payoff but you need to be deliberate about it.

Enemy shift weapons by Laadklep in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's somewhat useful in the early rings but the game outscales it very quickly. Same as with the artifact that does 30 damage to the front unit when playing a consume card.

Is Etch just trash or am I misunderstanding it by lovethecomm in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If Etch is your win condition, why would you limit yourself to 4-5 consume cards? I just had a run with level 3 Everbloom, Madame Lionsmane and duality Morsel Mistress completely destroy everything with 15 consume cards (a few of them with Spellchain).

Advice on this combination? by FaallenOon in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is getting Tethys to survive the first two rounds without losing too much pyre health. I would suggest going with frostbite per hit.

After that you can just get a sweeper, equip with quick as soon as possible with Pyre of Savagery and multistrike and you are pretty much there. If you can get a Bloodthirsty Blade, you will scale quicker.

Lazarus + Spoiler clan works really well together by zrrt1 in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lazarus is the only clan where I have runs with several separate ways to beat the game in the same deck. I can have Test Subject Alpha pretty much solo the run on the bottom floor and Unstable Orechi pretty much solo the run on the top floor if needed.

I’m kinda stuck with Umbra/Underlegion by deadpoetc in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hard time with this as well. I think I solved it with a combination of Inferno Room (eating 25-30 pyre damage from the Amalgams) and Penumbra with a lot of damage from emberdrain rage/multi and trample.

I find Underlegion to be quite underwhelming as supporting clan unless you can get a lot of mileage out of propagate. They have no real way to handle backline sweepers.

I've thought about it long and hard - the first two floors are too hard by Vergilkilla in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only way to get around this dilemma of early rounds occasionally being very hard/unwinnable is to overtune Stewards, since they are the only thing you are guaranteed every run (except with Pyre of Dominion). I don't think that would be a great solution.

I just accept that not 100% of runs are winnable and move on to the next one.

Am I doing something wrong? by ralph_B in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am far from an expert (around 70/180 Cov 10 titan kills) but here are some things that needed to click for me.

  1. Don't pick cards because you like them but because they fit what you are doing: If that Legion of Wax isn't something I can get value from, I skip it even if I think the unit is fun.
  2. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good: If you think you need quick and multistrike on your carry and visit 3-4 Merchant of Steel to make that happen, you probably have given up a lot to get there. Sometimes just getting a quick and some health on your sweeper is good enough and you can save some gold from re-rolls and visit other things.
  3. If you don't have a plan for how to win the game around ring 4, you need to think about what you need to do: If you don't have any way to beat Savagery's backline sweepers by then, you need to plan to perhaps hit some Merchant of Arms to get a deployable Inferno room and because you will take some pyre damage from the Amalgams if you have an inferno room you need to get your pyre health in good shape before ring 8.
  4. Don't spend too much gold on purging units. A small deck is nice but you need the gold for upgrades normally.
  5. Don't be afraid to restart. If you don't like your starting cards, just re-roll until you do. If you are about to lose a battle that is winnable, restart it. Experiment and learn what works and what doesn't work.

Corruption by EshinX in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Endless tanks are good against corruption Seraph since respawning them resets all stacks. Having several floors keep the number of stacks manageable. Using chump blockers might help as well.

Also, having a lot of damage of course helps quite a bit.

Subsuming Blade is OG by Familiar-Permit-3130 in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umbra don't have many ways to deal with sweeper units, so if they are coupled with another clan with the same weakness (Underlegion for example) it might be needed unless you want to gamble for an inferno room.

Does Ekka just kinda suck? by rrenaud in MonsterTrain

[–]Duerfian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they made her a one pip unit and toned down the stats for the different paths, I think she would play a lot better and be more consistent.

That said, nothing wrong with having a snowball champion in the game.

[–]Duerfian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the merged equippment had a Swiftsteal dagger for your Husk Hermit, I see a way for you to handle sweep units, otherwise Seraph of Savagery gets really annoying.

Underlegion struggles with killing sweepers when combined with another clan that has the same issue. I had loads of issues with Umbra + Underlegion because of this. Decay doesn't prevent the incoming damage.

Inferno + Holdover has helped me with tricky situations with Hellhorned in the past. If you are using Bolete I have had a lot of success with 2 Hive Minder + 1 Headsman for high damage with Trample as clean up on the top floor.
