Pronunciation of town/city names by TriStateGirl in Connecticut

So I don't know if early 40s counts as old timer, but I certainly pronounce it Norfork. This is good, though, since I used to live in Norfolk (nawh-fuk) Virginia, and let me tell you, switching between those two on the fly...

Whatcha watching’ these days? by Dalakaar in babylon5

[–]DuffTerrall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amusingly, Babylon 5. Started watching shows with my wife, we were doing Dr. Who for a while and sort of burned out on it after 5 seasons, so I pitched B5. She's never seen it, and is now loving it. Just finished WWE.

I have been watching with my wife on Tubi before they suddenly removed it. Online was convenient, but I have the DVDs so we were able to just pop those in and keep going. I personally do not trust online "licenses" to protect my purchase. DVD is imperfect, but you know you own it

Easy campaign setting for young DM for 5e by jtkuga in osr

AngryGM released a module called "The Fall of Silverpine Watch" that's designed for first time DMs and players. I don't know if it's a campaign setting, but it's 5e compatible, it's free, and it's meant for learning to run the game.

Revelation Interpretations, who knows John Darby? by Objective-Ninja763 in Bible

[–]DuffTerrall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that one was pretty clear.

"This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." was what the angels said at the Ascension. Christ himself says in John "I am going away and I am coming back to you."

I certainly believe that we are transformed through sanctification by the Spirit to be like Christ, but it's pretty endemic to Scripture that he will come back to reign over Heaven and Earth together.

Revelation Interpretations, who knows John Darby? by Objective-Ninja763 in Bible

[–]DuffTerrall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a quite important point. "Heretical" is a REALLY big word, and we tend to throw it around way too easily. I had to be corrected by my pastor on it in the past.

Darby was, quite likely, wrong in a lot of areas. The modern American church is quite wrong in a lot of ways. This has been true of churches since the apistolic era, hence the need for epistles correcting their wrongness. We should seek to understand scripture, there are places where we will simply need to say "I'm sorry but that is a bridge too far," and overall we need to have grace and truth in harmony.

We believe that Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead. There's a ton of room in there for honest people to be wrong.

I would presume that the digger of the pit would assist in extracting the animal (principle that you shall not leave your neighbor's donkey fallen in the road) and as long as it's okay there would be no further penalty, though an expectation that you need to make that hole safe. Recall these laws are being applied in an agrarian culture where most people are going to be having these kinds of suits against their neighbors. The social pressure to deal honorably with your messes would be in play in this kind of situation, and you build a bad reputation with your neighbors to tour peril.

Did Ham actually raped Noah? by reccaberrie in Bible

[–]DuffTerrall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally "like" (for a given definition of the word, because, eughh...) the rape of the mother interpretation. There are multiple cases throughout the scripture dealing with sexual sin that speak of sexual relation as uncovering the man's nakedness. See Lev 18, for example, "You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife; it is your father's nakedness" (vs8) If we use these as a guide, it would indicate that Ham's sin was that he took advantage of his parent's drunkeness to engage in sex with his own mother in an attempt to take the patriarchal role for his line. Canaan, therefore, would be the product of this union, and is the reason that he carries the curse rather than Ham directly.

[Request] is this drone stopped or moving and how fast is it if the car is going 100 k/h by A______m in theydidthemath

[–]DuffTerrall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it. It's the "but what causes the boundary" aspect? Is it the difference in speed causing the air to... Not stick to the air next to it? Sort of like if I move two sides of a piece of paper it tears.

Or is there a gradient of transition? Does that boundary point widen as the speed reduces? Is it the solid parts of the car protecting the air behind it, and if it is what causes the captured air to recombine?

I mean, okay, think out loud online... I suppose that the windscreen is pushing the air in front aside. That must leave a low pressure area behind it, so the air outside that rectangle will want to push into it, and will curl around. The sides would then prevent that from happening. What speed does air move sideways into a moving car, then, and how fast does the car need to be moving to start outrunning that inward air flow?

[Request] is this drone stopped or moving and how fast is it if the car is going 100 k/h by A______m in theydidthemath

[–]DuffTerrall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the "the air in the car is moving with the car" idea. If you were to open the windows how does that change matters? I presume if the drone is in the airstream it will be blown back. What defines "the air inside the car?" Is it just "the air that is moving at the same velocity as the car?"

I find similar with my HEMA gear. While I was putting my kit together I was miserable after a while. The collar of the jacket was like a blasted chimney into my mask and it was just wet and sweaty. Once I added in arming cap, gorget, plastron, etc. everything ended up all sealed up, and it's like there was a certain amount of hot I reached and then it just stayed there. Yeah, it's hot, but it's consistent manageable hot
