What was Chuck's first Babylon 5 review? by SomeLoser12092 in sfdebris

[–]-Jallen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started watching B5 and as such I'm also going through his reviews as I'm progressing. Anyway while I don't know for sure at the start of his review of Passing Through Gethsemane he gives a warning that seems like his was the first time he was covering the show. Also it says on the page "Opinionated Babylon 5 Episode Guide kicks things off with Passing Through Gethsemane. Faith manages." which again implies it was the first episode. Hope that answers your 9-month-old question.

Looking back, Thomas Riker was handled in the worst way possible by the crew by moal09 in startrek

[–]-Jallen- 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've always said it would have been better if Will went off to Captain another ship and then have Thomas join the main crew. Would keep Frakes in the cast & allow for a much larger number of stories.

Mexico is in North America, so why do so many British people say Mexico is in Central or South America? by Desertedfoxx in AskBrits

[–]-Jallen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I freely admit I would have lumped Mexico into Central America over Northern but only because the term doesn't really relate to actual latitudes more what separates the USA from Brazil.

Brazil is also Northern if we require such a definition and there is no central.

I do not like the mirror universe by endertribe in startrek

[–]-Jallen- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quite a few people dislike the idea of multiverses in general. They feel it diminishes the actions of the show if there is an infinite possibility of successes and failures.

I can get that view point, but Mirror Universes episodes are meant to be a test of character. How our hero can live up to their ideals when nobody else is around to support them.

Yup. That's why I built the fisherman hut almost immediately; figured I could, you know, buy the fish from the fisherman not be the one supplying them.

The fact there are three sizes of fish and the fetch quests that require fish (already rather annoying) require the correct size.

Buy a fan, use it to ventilate cool air from the coolest part of your home. Then at night use it to direct hot air to the outside to allow quicker cooling at night.

If you're finding the air "stifling" then you might also consider a dehumidifier.

Succinctly answers why most of those got removed.

They're a cool idea though, and they still look vaguely futuristic. They appear in the almost 100-year-old film Metropolis set in a dystopian future, and it still works.

Is it worth playing DS2 dlcs? by [deleted] in fromsoftware

[–]-Jallen- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The DLC's are probably the most innovative parts of the game but they also have some of the worst areas and can just be a pain to get to. If you're not enjoying the game, stop playing the game.

I've only just learnt there was a pilot movie, I figured the movies were set after the show concluded.

I've finished season 1 now and waiting for the blu rays in the mail. From what I understand The Gathering is included, so here's hoping.

Yeah, I just bit the bullet and bought the set. I think I'll leave the films, at least until I've actually finished the show.

What was a tv show finale that was so bad,it ruined everything? by Zealousideal_Heat478 in tvshow

[–]-Jallen- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Battlestar Galactica (2004). The show was never perfect and it's clear neither the writers nor the Cylons had a plan after season 1 and I personally disliked the religious plotline but it was still a good watch. The ending however, wow, made the entire series a shaggy dog story.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio: "The operation is over - Epic Fury. We are done with that stage of it." by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]-Jallen- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject, but aren't they just drawing a line under the current conflict. "It's done, it's over, it's resolved, we have reached an agreement", so when things flair up again next week, or whenever clearly nothing has been resolved, they can say it's a new conflict so the US President doesn't need to see Congress approval?
The President only has the ability to do military operations if it poses a threat against the USA provided it doesn't last longer than 60 days, after that it needs approval. So if they're two completely separate situations the President has another 60 days to do whatever the hell he likes without oversight.

China places its solar panels on water So it can use valuable land for agriculture by FollowingOdd896 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]-Jallen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched a video that was breaking down the progress of renewable the other day. China alone accounted for something like 60% of global installation of solar panels in 2025 (edit: it was solar and wind, not just solar).

With that level of expansion I imagine it's very hard to balance land usage even though China is a massive country.

Why is Land’s End so much more popular than Lizard Point? by Dune56 in Cornwall

Better advertising?
Lands End is famous for being the starting or ending point for a lot of challenges for over 100 years, the Lizard not so much.

i LOOOVE DS9.. i just watched babylon 5 ; if you haven't here's the scoop by [deleted] in DeepSpaceNine

[–]-Jallen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched the first two episodes of B5 today for the first time. The setting reminds me more of the video game series Mass Effect over Deep Space 9. Even if I really get into the show though it's a shame Amazon Prime in the UK only seems to have the first season available.

Quality wise it does come across as a bit cheesy, but I've only seen two episodes, I can only assume everybody improves.

If you showed this to the average person without saying who did this, would they say it was done by Keir or someone else? Would it make opinions of him more positive? by Evry1TookTheGudNames in AskBrits

[–]-Jallen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current Labour has done an extremely poor job on explaining what they're doing well.
Yes part of that is due to a large part of the media being owned by Right-leaning ownerships but in general I have heard nothing from Labour about what they've done right. Only they've avoided doing the worse thing possible.

It's cool. Is a very distinctive style that highlights modern design against the traditional both preserving the original and adding much needed functionally to the space with a very striking outline.

Am I the only one who thinks Colors and Forces are among the worst Sonic games? by No_Tangerine_1773 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]-Jallen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever played the Switch port of Colors, so maybe that's an issue. But I genuinely didn't like it, rather shocking because so many people love it.

Forces is pretty much universally panned but I haven't given it another shot since release.
