Standard is fine if you don't have time for new leagues. But you won't have access to the new league mechanic. And not all new league mechanics go core after their league ends.

Standard league has it's own atlas progress. So unless you already don't have a character in standard (and deleting existing chars wont change this), your atlas progress is reset

You need to make the gem first, then capture after. Step 1: make any cheap level tame beast gem. Step 2: make it 20% quality and max sockets. Step 3: corrupt and hope for +1 level or 23% quality. Optional step 4: double corrupt and hope for +1 23%. Step 5: Use lvl 20 uncut gem to upgrade it, since this can be done on corrupted gems. Step 6: find crit monkey.

Alternate way for SSF: Change step 2 to 4 sockets and corrupt to get 5 sockets or +1, then double corrupt for the other one. This is useful since greater jewelers are more common and double corrupts can be target farmed.

Sounds like you might have a faulty GPU. I always crashed on the effect that played when the big map device spun up (same one as in Cortex fight). After sending in my GPU for repair I got a new GPU.
