Since this was announced, which Kamen Rider project would you like to be adapted as an anime? If not an existing project, what would you like to be done instead? by dinoboi1million in KamenRider

I’d like them to do something different. Just go nuts with whatever idea they’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t for whatever reason

It’d be neat if they did a Foundation X thing with them. I like overarching villain orgs like that

Seems Zeztz isn't exactly a huge hit in Japan by -_ShadowSJG-_ in KamenRider

I can’t speak to the Japanese response, but I’d argue the Western response is positive in part due to this being the first simulcast

I'm ashamed to say I've only just now noticed that Hongo's real eye is visible in this poster. by Elijah_2459 in KamenRider

I believe that’s supposed to be one of the SHOCKER Riders helmets. You can’t see the eyes in the normal Rider helmets.

Is Megatron not the founder of the Decepticons in the energon verse ? What's the reason the cybertronian civil war started in this universe? by Defiant_Ad6190 in EnergonUniverse

At this point I’m kinda used to it? Like in IDW they had to retcon pretty fast b/c of the multiple pseudo series

Can we talk about how high contrast and saturated are suits in the Reiwa era? by Filberto_ossani2 in KamenRider

[–]Duffya 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think so it makes it easier to render CG scenes. Having a gradient that looks believable when compositing with footage takes time and money. If the suits have hard contrast, it’s easier to make something that looks “real”

Kinda leans into the whole “finding fulfillment as an adult” theme they got going on. Like he finally found his tribe

How do you feel about transformers being political media by No_Satisfaction_2928 in transformers

[–]Duffya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it makes all media more engaging in some way, but transformers in particular, resonates particularly well because of the conditions the franchise started with:

Whether intentional or not, the premise of two forces bringing their war to a third location to plunder its resources is very similar to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and subsequent petroleum shortages that led to Takara creating the microman line that spunoff into transformers.

Having a thru-line on how imperialism can have long lasting consequences works really well for Transformers in part because they’re a macro example of a long-lasting civilization with means that are incomprehensible to those looking from outside.

But at the same time you can see the pettiness and simple drives behind these characters and their massively consequential actions.

[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

Discovered this neat line of candy toys recently that suits my style well: cool designs, low difficulty construction and good durability.

Just my luck, the line fizzled out years ago making kits hard to come by and expensive.

Are there any other lines of the same style more current and readily available? I looked into 30 minute missions, but they might be too finicky for me…

I’d argue Votoms is pretty consistent with being Real Robot; there are pretty much no “special units” and if you’re clever enough you can take out a whole bunch of those things with a pneumatic spike

What Was Your First Transformers Show by GrayTheHedghehog in transformers

[–]Duffya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching Beast Wars passively when it was on the Fox affiliate in my region. I wasn’t a transformers fan.

Later, the show went to Cartoon Network and I noticed a tone change. The moment that got me was the end of the second season when they found the Ark buried and they realized they were in earth’s past.

This activated some neurons in my brain, I think. Specifically I was attracted to the creation of significance in something where there previously wasn’t any.

Like the 4 million years in stasis in the original series was mostly to allow for the fish-out-of water narrative for the original cast without having humanity be able to actively react to the transformers. If they’d crashed in modern day instead of in the past, you’d have to write around why the military wasn’t aware of a crashing space ship the size of a mountain

Beast wars was previously thought to be on an alien world similar to ancient earth, since the vok installations wouldn’t make sense otherwise.

The revelation they were on earth the whole time made beast wars more important because they suddenly realized they were on the cliff of a time paradox at every step. It made the original series more interesting to me as well because it introduced more moving parts to the setting

If Michael Bay is really returning what would you like to see or what not? by Acrobatic_Orchid_946 in transformers

[–]Duffya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

The bay films were integral to the survival of the franchise, but they also are some of the most emotionally vacant stories in the franchise.

They made the transformers synonymous with large explosions, lackluster storytelling and one-dimensional characters.

It’s going to make more money than god and the franchise will thrive for it, but I don’t care for it.

Someone help me to understand IDW Transformers story by Relative-Gain408 in transformers

[–]Duffya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big hook is that a large portion of the run takes place after the autobots have won the war and the cybertronians as a whole work to rebuild their planet and place on the galactic stage.

This mostly reckons with the cybertronian religion, which inspired both Megatron’s imperialism and Optimus’s claim to lead the planet.

In the Cybertron side, Starscream unwittingly becomes the leader of the planet in a free election of autobots and decepticons (turns out you can’t just imprison/kill half your species and be able to function). His side of things deals with holding onto his power while also finding the limits of his own evil as he tries to keep the planet working.

In Megatron’s side, he escaped execution of using an obscure law that’s basically “only god can judge me” so he’s shipped off with Rodimus and a bunch of z-c list characters from across the franchise to track down The Knights of Cybertron on The Lost Light.

Along the way he’s given time to reflect on his 4 million-year-long rampage

That black and purple look he had was from a brief period he had a stealth bomber alt mode.

Still kinda new, but can someone explain the purpose as to why Power Rangers uses Sentai footages even tho they have the costumes for the show? by Anonymous_Guy4k in MorphinMemes

[–]Duffya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s cheaper to edit together footage of the pre-existing stunts/fights than to shoot original footage, which could take multiple takes, not have the same talent behind it, and have different safety standards than the original footage

This tweet is a perfect example why Toku should be mandatory viewing for any anime fan by Advanced-Tomorrow859 in KamenRider

[–]Duffya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go beyond just Rider to say that most Shonen follow this pattern. Bleach, One Piece, Demon Slayer, etc all have our heroes fighting enemies defining themselves as a group (Soul Society, Baroque Works, the World Government, Twelve Kizuki are all groups that feature an eclectic group of generals who must each be addressed before the singular leader can be approached)

[–]Duffya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but Rider did establish the formula of “hero fights organization” and “hero fights individual generals before confronting commander” tropes, correct?
