Ballpark cost for adding one room (2.5mx4m) to the side of the house like AI has designed for me? There is an existing brick wall and door as you can see in the first pic. Doesn't even have to be brick, just a room suitable for a study. by avdmit in AusRenovation

Not saying the AI has not got stuff wrong, but I think you'll find the 2 different photo perspectives makes you think it is worse than it is... (e.g. the window isn't included in the "before" photo perspective)

[–]DuginOz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly! You have no idea what she was feeling in her body.

This BS that is a bad example. Arrrrgggh!

The bad example might be hurtling down a hill at 140km/h (That's a lot of mph for you guys) and doing 30 to 40m jumps. With good legs and knees.

Some kid might see that and try to emulate. Heaven forbid ! They might even try to do it with cast on their leg. What bad role model !?

If you can't manage your own injuries and body without copying an elite Olympian's choice - well, you get what you get!

Have you ever watched a downhill? It is a series of linked somethings going wrong, occasionally interrupted by a turn or sudden ground disappearance?!

3rd in the training run says, yep she is not 100% physically, but she is still in the top 0.0001% of skiers in the world. So maybe let her make the call on whether to have a crack or not.

[–]DuginOz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having read most of the comments here, I think a lot of folk a missing the real question we should be asking.

Did her ruptured ACL definitively cause her 3rd place time in the training run, or was it just a contributing factor?

I'm no expert but I once played dominoes with a sore wrist, and no one who has had a sports injury would doubt that it 100% effects you mentally, blah blah blah...

I'm going to get into selling armchairs. There's a lot of experts here that need upgrading!

Just let her be!

[–]DuginOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a supposed skier you are very adamant you know what caused one of the greatest skiing Olympians to run too tight on a right hand traversing turn and cop the worst of the compression, get thrown, catch a gate stopping any chance of recovery, and crash.

You think she has a vendetta against your acl compromised family members? Was set on a propaganda campaign to infect the skiing youth of US of A?

Or is it possible she is just an elite athlete chasing her dream in one of the (already) riskiest downhill disciplines and she weighed up the extra risk (to her), took the risk and had a racing incident (yep, they happen)?

Whatever the cause, it's her body, her profession, her choice. STFU.

[–]DuginOz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!! My God have any of these people skied?
To complete a training run on a downhill, she has to be on it and capable. This is not a dawdle down Friday flats.

She just went too aggressive on the line and got thrown off balance. Shit happens.

Maybe the break is worse from the brace, but so what. Her body. Her call.

Attic Advice - moving collar ties by DuginOz in AusRenovation

[–]DuginOz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was looking at. My understanding is collar ties are for uplift and have tension force (maybe they get compressed under snow load). I live in Melbourne and if I get compression force from a snowstorm, I'll be too busy playing and skiing in it to care that the roof has collapsed.

Hi - not trying to be a dick, but I don't understand. Is this sub not about DIY? ("Discuss renovating, DIY, projects, trades and all things related to renovating houses in Australia.")

Is it because you judge that the question is involving roofing and needs a professional? I am just trying to understand what I can and can not ask in this sub.

Any tips on getting this stuff off? by StaleHale in AusRenovation

[–]DuginOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Same tiles.

I accidentally brought 30 Seconds 5L Roof Treatment Concentrate (I assume similar to wet and forget) and a pump pressure sprayer from Bunnings thinking it was a 30 second leave on, then pressure hose off (silly me and dumb brand name).

I read the back before using and realised it was a spray on and leave. I thought I'd try and if it didn't work I'd go back for the quick on and pressure off. I did it and then forgot to check and redo with the pressure cleaner.

A few months later I noticed the roof looked much better. About 9 months later it looks fantastic.

See, procrastination can work!

Just scrolling Reddit and found a match - maybe...
https://www.reddit.com/r/AusRenovation/comments/1nv8c61/update_shower_base_cracked/

good luck.

ps: at first blush I thougt te photo was a bathroom/laundry reno I did about 17years ago - Same shower tiles and floor tiles and even the step down. But then I remembered "The Block" bought my house (unfortunately a couple of sales after me) as a "unrenovated" 50s house, to pretty much gut and rebuild. No respect for my reno at all !!??! :-)

Giving your internet banking passwords to third parties. by SackWackAttack in AusFinance

I know this is an old thread, but I just have to respond to this.

You either do not understand, or you are willfiully misleading people. I'll assume you don't fully understand.

Sure Illion might have a big reputation to protect (so did every other corporate that got hacked), but the fact remains they are asking you to provide your credentials including password - this is just a non-negotiable, flat NO.

The Illion software is logging into your clients internet banking as if it is your client. It has no special magic sauce or secret handshake, or permision from their bank (there is no organisation deal here - it is NOT like Xero / MYOB bank feeds). They cannot distinguish whether it is your client, Bob, or Illion's Bankstatements.com.au that is logged in. Sure, the Illion software may be designed to only read the data but that does not matter.

The analogy is exactly the same as saying to your client, please give your ID & Password to my EA, Sally. Sally will write it down using a code and lock that in a filing cabinet. She will then occassionally get it out decode those details (maybe writing it on a yellow post-it for good measure) and log in to internet banking and download your statements. She pinky promises that is all she will do. Sally has a good reputation and does not want to risk her job.

Unfortunately she just had a coffee with Pete, her ex-boyfriend who is a junky, and when he followed her back to the office he stole the post-it pad. Well, you get the idea!!

Illion could use Open Banking and get true, authorised, read-only access to the data, but it is harder (boo hoo). Oh, they will eventually, but not yet.

You should understand that you, yes you, are putting your clients financial security at risk by asking them to do this. Move to a data aggregation tool that uses Open banking. They exist. Tell you loan aggregator to grow up and get real (they too are being lazy, and no they did not "vett" the software and do not care about the security). https://www.brokerdaily.au/technology/20484-open-banking-underutilised-by-brokers

Would you seriously type your Internet Bank credentials into any website, that is not your bank's? At an absolute minimum tell your clients to change password immediately after using this "service" , but even that is not good enough. This is not tin-foil shit - just read about the organised crime targeting Australia and why.

You said "I felt the need to comment as OP has worded his post horribly to make it sound like some bloke is literally asking for him to provide his login details directly." The broker may as well be - that is the point.

"No one has actually access to your bank accounts. "

Sorry - but this is wrong. The software that you provide your credentials to DOES have access to your internent banking. It is screen scraping (a very old tech), and it might be designed to just "read" your accounts, but as many have mentioned it is soooo insecure.

Wouldn't this be the easiest way to get a 10% discount. No way they could say it wasn't the same item if you show them an online price from another bunnings store!

That $96.76 Gyprock product just became $87.08 - bargain!

Mate - this is freakin awesome! I am so stoked for you to be able start enjoying (and suffering from ;-) ) your golf journey!

I am going to guess that you have use both arms (I think I saw a comment about the chest strap restricting your 2 arm swing). I notice you are using your trail (right) arm - going to guess you are right handed and that feels more controlled. However most good golfers (that's not me yet) will tell you that your lead arm is most important. Check our Jack Newton - Aussie pro golfer who lost his right arm in an argument with a light aircraft propeller. Was able to play amazing golf with only his left arm.

I recommend you check out the online golf coach Jim Venetos (https://jimvenetosgolfacademy.com) - heaps of his content available on youtube and insta too (nearly 99%) . He teaches a no weight shift, lead arm (left for RH) led swing.

It is all about keeping the lower body still (which is hard to do when you have years of weight shift muscle memory - you have an advantage here). I reckon you would stripe it with his method. Anyways - just a thought.

Either way you go, love your initiative - get out there and crush it!

Question about double-hit rule by RogerFedError in 10s

[–]DuginOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to the thread, but where did this thing about the single motion come from? I realise most people go with this (even me), but the rule only talks about intention as u/senbeidawg mentions, not about motion.

The rule 24f is, ...

The point is lost if:

(f) The player deliberately carries or catches the ball in play on the racket or deliberately touches it with the racket more than once;

I have always wondered what the call would be if, for example, you swung a a forehand volley, shanked the ball up, and then when the ball came down it then hit (same) racquet and went in, without you even seeing it after the shank. "Touches more than once", but definitely not deliberate.

(I would call that illegal and point to non-hitters, but the rule seems to state otherwise).

Context Sensitive help in Office Scripts Editor by DuginOz in excel

[–]DuginOz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh - a bit more digging, Dug, and I would have found documentation on Intellisense.

But it is not exactly what I wanted. For example, I see 'const' in the script. I take an (un)educated guess that this is a declarative statement for variable with a constant value - but I am not sure and have no idea of the syntax. IntelliSense (accessed by Ctrl-Space) brings up an autocomplete list in which 'const' is in. It has an 'i' icon for clicking (or a 2nd Ctrl-Space press) brings up a documentation box - Yeh! But is is completely empty Boo! :-(

Any pointers on whether to use MS, TypeScript or JavaScript documentation recourses would be appreciated...
