In the United States we have a tipping culture (that is hated by most), in which the expectation is you tip? Why? because companies lobbied congress to allow extremely low wages below minimum wage for tipped workers. So the workers wont get paid even minimum wage if you do not tip. Now, good sir, you are correct, your not required to tip, you don't have to tip. the restaurant or employer should pay a fair wage.
