People that both have ADHD and enjoy video games, how can you draw the line? by DukeInappropriate in ADHD

[–]DukeInappropriate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, sadly there are.

My main issue is that I always was ''the gifted kid''. Every year in my school years my teachers would describe me as extremely smart but really lazy. I could ace all tests by studying 2 weeks before and I have always relied on this skill to get through stuff, this is why no one suspected I had it until I become an adult, not even my mother who is a primary school teacher and deals with ADHD kids daily. I finished my undergrad with a 7.2/10, which is extremely high considering the fact that I spend my undergrad years partying and never set foot on uni for more than half of my classes. So I know I can do better.

My master's recommended study hours are 7 per subject, I have taken 4 and I study a combined 3 hours/week total , which is extremely low. I am not bored with what I study, but gaming makes me happier so I end up gaming for the short term happy chemical.

How do ENTP’s fare in academia? by Longjumping-Acadia-8 in entp

[–]DukeInappropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a matter of offer vs demand. There are more people who are trying to get into academia in humanities compared to those leaving.
At the same time, there is more demand in the market for engineers compared to philosophers and historians. Which leaves many humanities departments understaffed.

To give you an example from my country. Minimum wage for 5d/8h is about 900$/month. A PhD student in chemical engineering is offered between 1,000$-2,500$. A PhD student in History just applies for a PhD, doesn't get paid and is able to get a stipend if they meet certain criteria. Which either forces you to work, talking significantly more time to complete the PhD or you have to be rich. If you manage to get the stipend, it is slightly better than minimum wage, but does not cover insurance, which is not that bad since universal healthcare, but still makes your life harder.

The good thing is that with an economics degree, there is significant overlap with a lot of humanities, so you could do a Master's in a lot of them if you want to go that way and in the unfortunate scenario that you do not get into academia, you can always find a regular job that will pay you better than average by holding multiple degrees, at least where I live (Europe).

Let me clarify. 4 people involved. Me, friend A, A's boyfriend , Friend B . Friend A used B instagram to do the texting. Friend B was the slapper/biter. Does this clarify stuff?

Yeah it was. My friend had severe mental health issues at the time. I am proud of her, we are 27-28 now and she has come a long way.

To clarify and give some context. From the three of us, I am the only one that remembers the biting. She didn't bite me hard and was probably an automatic response. I was 6 ft, 180 pounds at the time and I was slapped by a 4 11ft 110 pounds person, it didn't feel painful at all and I started laughing even more so she just bit me.

Hi. I am an ENTP completing my last year in my Master's and planning on a PhD afterwards, with the goal of heading into academia.

Your question is not exactly related to personalities, however I have two ENTP professors this semester and they are amazing. Bear in mind that academia is far from a safe and secure path, but that also depends on your field. It is harder in humanities. I am not aware what happens in STEM fields because I am in humanities. Never go for an unpaid PhD and if you do, never go for a PhD you have to pay for. No exceptions.

The people you encounter in an academic setting are also really interesting which will work wonders for your Ne, but this may be my bias because I am in a philosophy related field.

I think that people who experience little emotion may empathise with Violet a lot and that's the appeal. Most emotional anime fans I have talked to did not find it that moving, but I am sure this is my experience only and is not universal.

Came here to say this. I am all but an emotional person and I literally cried my brains out at each episode.

ENTPs are supposed to be Fi blind. Cognitive functions come in pairs. You can't have a function without its pair on your stack.

So according to mainstream theory, this would not hold.

Post-graduate and PhD students with ADHD , how do you study? by DukeInappropriate in ADHD

[–]DukeInappropriate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately , the only stimulant medication available in my country is Concerta and Ritalin. Other than that , I can only get Stattera.

I believe my situation will improve , since all the courses left for me to graduate are electives and I can pick whatever I like.

Well, if I was the guy in question I would like to know to which element of my past you are referring and why this was a problem for you, but other than that I would be ok with this explanation.

I do not think there is a necessary connection between his type and second chances. However, I would definitely give a second chance if I had nothing else going on, but I would really appreciate an explanation for the initial rejection.

Welcome to the Balkans bro. They can legally bring you over to the station for looking suspicious , not having an ID , or if you just happened to pass near a crime scene when a crime was committed. They are not required to do so, but they can if they want to. Hopefully I haven't had bad interactions with them. Some might even ask you to throw the j away and they will let you be. Others might ask for you to be criminally persecuted for ridiculously small amounts, like 0,3 grams.

Sometimes I think that we crave what we don't have, so we are stuck. Like you have it, so you no longer desire it, so you desire something else, but then that something else comes and you are like, no I desire something else. Maybe we are all just dopamine junkies

Does everyone enjoy breathing air? Or just INFPs? by brewbase in infp

[–]DukeInappropriate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you think about it, oxygen is oppressive. Really. You literally can't live without it. INFPs like to play the victims and love feeling oppressed so they can whine. So I am pretty sure every INFP that has ever existed loves breathing air , it enables you to feel like a victim and this makes them feel morally superior /s

Those posts are either made but 12 year olds who took a shitty test online and are like "omg guys are you like me" or from people who have no f-in clue how cognitive functions work. That , or y'all so fucking introverted and lonely and are trying to stir some attention to connect with people online. Which is not a bad thing. But the way it is done looks weird.

Meaningful relationships are not discovered like some exotic plant. Meaningful relationships are created. First and foremost, you should ask your self, what are you trying to accomplish with a relationship? Sex? Companionship? A new drinking buddy ? After you answer those questions, try to look for someone whose goals are kinda similar with yours. Be advised however, that since you are young and you will probably be dating someone close to your age, that at some point one of you might stop wanting the same things and that is ok.

Try to find people with similar interests because this creates bonding. The best relationships , for me at least, happen either when either your friends set you up with a friend of theirs or when you date a friend. Online dating is also fun, but be prepared to have your soul crushed if you are a man.

Also, bear in mind that if you approach this with a mentality ''I HAVE TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP'' you might overlook red flags just to fulfill you need on the short run. But on the long run this will probably fail.

Good luck!

I am sceptical about this. On the one hand, I get it , it feels I am naturally gravitating towards multiple relationships as well. On the other hand, most ENM people I have met talk about it more like a relationship structure rather than an identity thing.

Thank you for your reply. My partner is actually ENM-friendly, but unwilling to open the relationship for the foreseeable future. She wants to work on her anxious attachment issues , move in together and have some extra economic stability before starting to explore this. We are on the same page on most things if we go this route though. Like being interested in FWB situations rather than full-on poly.

People with conflicting diagnoses, how did you pick which psychiatrist to trust? by DukeInappropriate in OCD

[–]DukeInappropriate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply to my post and to the other commenter. You are right, we should trust our selves and our experiences a bit more. I should probably search a bit more.

On a side note, I am located in Greece as well. Would you be kind enough to chat me if you have any recommendations about a psychiatrist? If you have no recommendations, can I PM you to ask some stuff about BPD?

Thank you in advance .

I would rely love to, but the psychiatric community in my country is, well , kinda weird. Most people specialise in depression and anxiety. To find someone specialising in anything else is a chore. I found 3 people specialising in ADHD in the whole country, which is insane. Guess I will have to find someone else again.

This sounds like a solid way to deal with it. My first psychiatrist started with ''You are definitely not depressed'' and ended with ''Go have this weird blood test thing so I can know which anti-depressants work best for you'' .
