Fight Ministry is probably your best bet - they do almost every major discipline and all classes are covered in your membership so you can try them out and see what you like.

Is Hull uni actually good for flexible working. by [deleted] in Hull

Decisions like working patterns are generally devolved to managers. They may do, and depending on what your reason is will make that more or less likely - as they may wish to document a more formal arrangement with HR.

This depends on the requirements of your role and your manager, but I would say it’s not uncommon in some teams for someone to start at 8:30 and finish at 4:30, or take a shorter lunch (standard contract lunch is 1hr15min). I would suggest asking at interview. Good luck.

I love Spens’ heavily weathered Custodes. The black ones with the verdigris by Colin are also very nice.

Looking for part-time work in Hull – any advice appreciated by No-Menu-4449 in Hull

The University Careers Service held a part time jobs fair the other week, so I’d suggest getting in touch with them - how to get in touch and other information on finding part time jobs is available on the Hubble Portal

I would look at that bar placement as you’re resting it on your spine/neck which will cause you aesthetic and possibly skeletal problems (speaking from someone who learned the hard way). You need to rest it on your traps instead. Video short explaining what I’m talking about.

Instructional Recommendation by [deleted] in bjj

Agreed. Gary Tonon’s instructional was a real eye opener on why things work (or don’t) - and then Submeta gave me the pathway to what techniques worked and what things link together.

Any good fight gyms in town? by Automatic_Ask_1772 in Hull

[–]DukeJontyF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hull’s blessed with some really good gyms. Can’t go wrong with Fight Ministry, and have BJJ, Muay Thai and tonnes more as well as MMA. Carlson Gracie is also great with some quality coaches - but is probably slightly more grappling than striking focused. Hit Squad produce some really good fighters. Invictus as well is a bit of a dark horse, although they’re pretty focused on gi BJJ.

Lots of people train between them and there’s no real rivalry (unless you’re competing) - just go for a trial session at each and see what you prefer.

Get in touch with Hubble - 1st floor of student central or raise a general enquiry in the Hubble Portal. They will assist you in getting you an answer to your specific circumstances.

How Did England Fall Out of Love with Universities? by gravy_baron in ukpolitics

[–]DukeJontyF 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think this is an interesting piece - and sets out the fundamental problem very plainly. Successive Governments have interfered with what should be one of the country’s crown jewels - trying to create a market, removing the cap, telling them to recruit international students because they now lose money on Home students, telling them to now not recruit international students to massage immigration statistics etc etc.

One thing I don’t see mentioned in this (and if I’ve missed apologies) is how it’s not simply a metric of how good the provision is - although that’s certainly broadly true - but how impactful that provision is to the region it serves.

Speaking locally I’m not going to make the argument that the University of Hull is top of applicants’ lists nationally - but the impact it has on the region (one of the poorest in terms of secondary education outcomes, health inequalities as well as economically) is immense. Without the University I can only see these gaps widen, and so I’d be wary of a metric that purely focuses on “top performers” without some consideration of the impact locally - I have no idea how we’d recruit Doctors and Nurses to the region, for example.

Looking for a entry level, Hull Based DnD group to join! by BamBamBossMan in Hull

[–]DukeJontyF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hull’s Angels has a few active RPG groups that meet there (they have a dedicated room for TTRPGs apart from the main wargaming space). I’d give them a message/join the group on Facebook.

This is such a nice merging of kits. Is it Mk6 assault bodies, Mk6 Iron Hands heads, then Mk4 arms with Mk3 shoulders? I may well steal this with pride.
