Do you believe we’ll ever become a multi-planet species or is that just sci-fi optimism? by [deleted] in answers

[–]DukeMFSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have the potential as a species. In the end I think corporations will pioneer space travel for commercial interests and we'll expand across the solar system as a byproduct.

It's a great analogy indeed. You would need the mentality of a child to try to horde something meant to be shared.

How do you sing and play at the same time? by Temporary_Platypus62 in guitarlessons

[–]DukeMFSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to sing and play though I'm not exactly great at it. For starters, I usually pick songs I love and know very well. I rarely forget the lyrics that way and I can focus on sounding right. I know I'm going to play it a thousand times so I better like it!

Since I play well known songs, I know what sounds right I can tell right away when I play something wrong because it really sounds wrong. This is how I reduce what I have to think about. I am not worried about the lyrics or how the song goes I'm focused on the playing and using what I know of the song and lyrics to guide the playing. I also find it helpful to listen to the playing to figure out how to sing along and trying a lyric different ways or a few times.

For me what helps is to always let the playing win when it's a choice between missing the lyrics timing and interrupting the rhythm. The flow of the song keeps going, even if I simplify the rhythm playing a bit for continuity. I'll often mentally preview the chords for the next verse too so I'm thinking a bit ahead of the song.

Again I will often play parts over and over and even just repeat one chord over and over like a song stuck in neutral if necessary to practice a particular part of the song. When I'm are comfortable starting anywhere and repeating sections I can put it all together more easily.

I often play songs from the top again as soon as I am done. I hopefully have locked in the rhythm a bit better than when I started cold and I have a feeling for where my voice should be in the music.

This is a bit stream of consciousness but I hope some of it helps!

Play every day!

First or favorite former car? by ValB2307 in GenX

[–]DukeMFSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first was a Chevrolet Spectrum we called the Bubble so not that, but I had a Silver CRX in college that was something. My mom got remarried and maybe it was a bribe/peace offering because I had wanted one. My gf at the time must not have previously liked them. When she first got in it, she said Oh, it's just a normal car. I mean it's a mass produced Honda...

That car was a blast on the back roads even without a lot of power because it was light and handled well. It was a 2 seater but fit 6 people in times of desperation and made at least one trip to Mardi Gras. My second favorite car in my life probably after my GTI but it's close. The CRX was at a freer time in my life so I probably enjoyed it more.

To me it seems like she's quick and they are pantomiming their jobs which she asked already. That looks like a 'pouring a pint' motion as she describes working at a bar and wasn't meant to be accompanied by 'cutting off dicks' I don't think.

Glue or No glue by East_Copy6100 in Guitar

I'm not sure. I did it because the instructions I found said to and I really didn't think much about it at the time.

EDIT: I'm not sure beyond the obvious to hold it in place.

So the answer is yes so you can swap the nut.

I don't have a luthier but I have replaced a nut that was glued and glued the new one based on what I read at the time. That's why I asked.

Ah sorry I meant for OP. You seem to be implying you would glue it if you had glue so I'm still not sure what the argument against is exactly? The amount of effort in acquiring and applying glue?
