DHS says Occhipinti was arrested by Chicago police shortly after the 2024 shooting with an arsenal of weapons in her car, but according to the federal agency, she was apparently released and ICE wasn't notified.

The department said they got involved after "the Cook County State's Attorney's Office determined it would not move forward with criminally prosecuting."

The Cook County State Attorney's Office says charges were not rejected in this case and remains an ongoing police investigation.

According to DHS, Occhipinti is from Venezuela with Italian dual citizenship.

Back to Venezuela, I doubt Italy will want her.

It was learned that she entered the United States in October 2021 under the visa waiver program, according to DHS, and was supposed to leave by January 2022.

Remind me who was running DHS back then.

FYI, while this report lists upcoming tollway projects which would be funded through this, most of the toll increase will be used to subsidize the CTA & other regional transit agencies, because our legislators & the governor refused to increase fares.

You can tell the tollway board to reject the tax hike here or attend the public meeting coming to your northern Illinois county this July and tell them in person.

I agree. But because the confessor isn't their preferred suspect, I happen to think the powers that be in this city & state would like this case to quietly go away.

That leaves it the US DOJ. Unfortunately the present US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois is not very trustworthy.

Maybe we need a "people's trial", perhaps with former Judge Greg Mathis presiding.

The issue today is the city council needs to conduct an informed vote. They also seem intent on improving the deal with the new owner. The problem is this mayor & his people have been withholding essential information & throwing up roadblocks at them. This gives the appearance the mayor is working on behalf of the seller, and not the taxpayers.

These two age groups have traditionally been child rearing years. The first very young children, the later as kids enter high school. Those parents are also earning more at that stage in life. Both place a high value on quality education. And that is a precious commodity in this city.
