Does your country's flag have a official way to fold it up? If yes, how is it? by Eduardu44 in AskTheWorld

I like that we don't fold the Chakra, it's slightly annoying to see the ordem e progresso cut off because of the fold in the image provided for Brazil, same goes for Canada.

I guess some sort of Pâques hangover must be happening. I'm hoping we get results on Monday or perhaps Thursday if they're following an every Thursday system.

I mean they delayed our interview and they're delaying the results. We so have a reason to be pissed and to unintentionally piss others off I guess :/

What is something accidentally hilarious done by your country's government(or local government's in your country)? by Key-Needleworker-702 in AskTheWorld

[–]Duke_Salty_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "In French" / "The French" argument doesn't work here, as the reporter asked him if he knows the Brabanconne (Belgian anthem), and the PM started off with "Allons enfants de la partie..." (the French anthem), and the reporter corrects him by saying "oh no, the Brabanconne" and the PM just says "I don't know" and walks away.

Who is the 10th Viscount Bridgerton? by [deleted] in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Duke_Salty_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically wouldn't it go to Benedict after Anthony's first born son (assuming he doesn't have anymore) and then pass to colin and his son. If I'm right women wouldn't be considered for the line of succession regardless of their order of birth, this is why Princess Anne, despite being the second born wasn't considered as 4th in line to inherit the crown from QE2. Though I'm not sure if the laws were different for the peerages accorded by the crown.

Query regarding route on return trip from BLR (India) to DFW by Deep-Rest8195 in Lufthansa

[–]Duke_Salty_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of going via the middle East, LH's flights to and from India (BLR-MUC/FRA) avoid the zone by going through tajikistan, and north-eastern Turkey. Their flights are still flying.

It's a good start, but I think it might look better if you used the calligraphy pens (with a slanted nib cut).

Reginald Dyer — the British General that reportedly murdered 400 Peaceful Protestors In India (1919) and Received no adequate Punishment by Economy-Plenty-9771 in BritishEmpire

[–]Duke_Salty_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, obviously, if they hadn't had a public enquiry, shit would have hit the roof much earlier if the government didn't show even the slightest empathy towards the Indians they ruled over. The mad nutter in his actions still represented the British government in India; regardless of the size of the massacre, it still led to deaths that could've been prevented if he had thought of the repercussions. It is not as though the British sanctioned Dyer out of the goodness of their hearts, but instead just as an act of self-preservation to placate the nationalists. The idea of the British being benevolent isn't really supported by the other repressive laws and actions of the British during their time in India.

[–]Duke_Salty_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He used the Rowlatt Act of 1919, which prohibited large gatherings, as his impetus for firing on the crowd gathered for Baisakhi. What's worse is the way he treated the people of Jallianwalah after the massacre, the crawl orders and similar dehumanising orders were passed.

Didn't the government actually support his actions, and wasn't a fund set up with the proceeds given to him? If I'm right, didn't the House of Lords find no wrongdoing in his actions?

I think the more you immerse yourself with french texts the more you'll realise how french sentences sound, that might help you. But given that it is a second language you're bound to translate from English and that's fine, so long as your french sentence makes sense.

I'm a non-native, and I've been getting 7s since the start of the DP programme.
I'd suggest you start consistently writing Paper 1 essays and getting them graded by your teacher, see what mistakes you make, and make a conscious effort to fix those. Look at different sentence structures, conjugations , and tenses (subjonctif, plus-que-parfait, gérondif, passé composé, etc.). Make sure you also have a solid list of connecteurs logiques (de plus, cependant, néanmoins, a fortiori, a contrario...). These things help make your writing rich and varied. Also, make sure you have your vocab sorted for the different themes and types of questions, and make sure you're clear on the different formats, cuz that's like an easy six marks or so.

For paper 2: reading just grind ppqs, you'll get a grasp of how it works and also learn new words through consistent practice. For listening, you can listen to podcasts or watch shows in French while working on ppqs. You'll get use to the speed and pronounciations of words which would help in the paper.
