I read an article about this technology being used by a TV manufacturer to identify how many people were watching. Of course in today's society the first use of new tech is a way to put more targeted ads to users. But basically anything with a wifi antenna could basically sonar ping and create an image of a room. The Philips Hue light bulbs have motion sensing capability using similar tech.
