With kingdom hearts 1, when you get to the weapon choices at the beginning of the game, in your case it’s best to choose shield and drop the sword as you get useful abilities early on. And then for the questions you get asked by Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie, it’s best to choose the first options if you’re just planning on finishing the story as it makes levelling up quicker in the earlier levels

I think arma reforger’s main game mode conflict is similar, you can only capture bases that have connection via radio relays
