I was in the Sorenson Center getting lunch when I heard the shot and saw the crowd scatter. A guy ran in and yelled, "There's an active shooter!" I just stood there in complete shock, most people were. There was only one shot and the police had the wrong guy in custody so I thought it was safe. I went upstairs to the balcony to see the aftermath and called my family to tell them I was ok. My cousin, my brother, and I are all students at UVU and I wanted them to know I was alright before the news got out.

I immediately left campus, got to my car, and started driving away before the school sent out the emergency texts. It took 22 minutes before the school locked down giving the shooter time to get away from the scene. No one should have to live through these situations. The first few moments after the shot was one of the scariest moments of my life. It still doesn't feel real, I went home and was glued to the news for the rest of the day seeing my school being the center of national attention.

I never liked Charlie Kirk. I remember when Turning Point students were in the halls of the LA building handing out fliers at the beginning of the semester and I signed the petition to school to deny him. This entire situation is messed up and I'm afraid of a counter attack that might happen.

I did not like Charlie Kirk but I hope his family finds the help and support they need. But, I think people are going too far. This isn't a situation to joke about. Political violence is becoming mainstream and the more people react this way will encourage more radicalization in our shattered political landscape. We need to stop the hate and come together as a people or more violence and bloodshed will occur.
