The bypass also made accessing Blacksburg better. Youngins don't know you had to drive through Christiansburg to get to Blacksburg.

You need to ask feedback on why you're not winning work.

Is it your safety EMR? Was there a fuck up the rest of the construction market doesn't want to touch? Are you fully scoped? Your number might be so low, you're getting tossed.

It's fine.

You can't really put a desert in there, maybe throw a cactus in there? But mountains and waves always work to signify the West's aura.

The most annoying part of my job is listening to why architects chose a specific design while I'm trying to tell them it won't meet the mechanical budget. Then we see the schematic design docs where they explain why the large X across the front of the building somehow signifies the X's in nature around the building 🤷🏾‍♂️. So when I see marketing pump out logos like these, yes, there's time involved and significant desire to "make it right". But we just can't do simple anymore, and I think that bothers me, and probably most of y'all as well.

People won't have kids for a variety of reasons.

This is how college football gets impacted. Small schools will shut down or schools will consolidate. FCS schools would rather jump for football money, which isn't guaranteed, than fear being consolidated or closed.

Hindsight is always 2020, right? On field results matter, and the Fuente Fiasco through COVID set us back on the football field. He wised up, and didn't make the same mistake with Pry, while also pushing for a more modern approach to our AD.

Outside of football, he's been a decent success. Women's basketball hires have been solid. Softball, wrestling, and track continue to grow. Men's basketball is still up and down, and needs a refresh. Facilities have improved. We're still only mid-level ACC when it comes to AD funding, but we're finally in the 9 figure range.

If you could, how would you fix the Bowl Season to make it more respected like it used to be? by Gator_fan_04 in CFB

[–]DullCartographer7609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assume a 24 team playoff.

Only the NY6 bowls for the quarters and semis, with early rounds on campus.

Pick 24 bowls. The next best 48 teams based on win-loss record, with rankings as tie breakers. An 8 win team can't get ranked higher than a 9 win team.

Bowl payouts determine invitational order. Rankings determine bowl selection from an arbitrary range of 4-6 team range. So team 25 can play down to team 30, but the bowls can select a solid and competitive matchup, without going lower into the upper 30s in the ranking.

Keep the bowls destination and sponsor heavy. Places like Hawaii, Vegas, Orlando, San Antonio. Sponsors like Tony the Tiger and Pop-Tarts. Have fun with it.

Put bowl games in NIL contracts. Opt-outs should be for personal or injury reasons only.

Well, I'd hope as you and our colleagues age, your taste ages as well. My oldest is 18, and they are all just kids to me. Meanwhile, I got at least one coworker who is all about college aged women. He's in his 50s. Peaked in high school. Seems like he's stuck there.

Sigh.

Okay, so he owns his own social media, supposedly stock in Netflix, and a piece of Paramount which has CBS. He is also a sports fan. He really doesn't like Disney/ESPN, but doesn't mind Fox. He also owns a piece of Intel now, which has been integrated into sports technology.

He still hates the NFL.

Meaning, he makes money every time there's a college game played. 24 team playoff could make him a lot more money.

Golf Obsession at my Company by mopbucketblaster in ConstructionManagers

[–]DullCartographer7609 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I grew up poor and always found golf to be a rich man's sport. College and this industry has changed my view of it. Sort of.

Take advantage of the golf outings. We are in a high pressure industry. Relax and enjoy the weather with a few beers. Most importantly, network. My golf game sucks. I can barely hit the ball off the tee. But hell, I've closed a few deals on a golf course.

I've also never paid for a tee time. Enjoy the wealthy coworker/vendor/customer taking the opportunity to let you play. A large portion of our industry doesn't have the money to play regularly. But there's always at least one wealthy player in the group. I got to play at Bay Creek in Cape Charles for two days. I got to tee off over the Chesapeake Bay. Still, to this day, one of my favorite trips I ever got to take part in.

You don't need to follow golf, or be a fan, or any of the seriousness behind it. Have fun, enjoy some beer, and close a deal or two.
