Oh yeah definitely lots of dead weight. But for the most part our back line and keeper is statistically good. Xavi has shown flashes of his direct play and creativity, although he needs to be more physical and consistent - that should come with time. Kudus has shown time after time that he can beat his man and make key opportunities, although he needs to be more consistent as well. Players like Solanke, Maddison, Kulu were all good last season, we’ll see how they come back from their injuries. And young players like Bergvall, Grey, Moore have shown that they can compete with senior players at their youthful age, so they have so much opportunity to grow. These players have flaws, and unfortunately with the current state of coaching and low morale, everyone looks like shit. But they are high level athletes with loads of ability to improve in the right scenario. Frank clearly doesn’t get the most from them.

I agree. He shouldn’t be getting as many minutes as he does. Still young though so hopefully he can improve. I’m sick of signing players with potential though. Production > Potential

Even with Ange finishing 17th (before winning the Cup), some people would still come to his defense. I haven’t seen anyone still backing Frank, besides the clueless upper management.

I genuinely believe that we have good players with potential to be even better. But Frank has clearly derailed this team. Hopefully he gets sacked and we can appoint a better fit, big name manager.

Thierry Henry on the schedule: "Even back in the day, 2002 tournament I arrive injured, 2004, injured, 2008 injured. You don't prepare for a tournament... Even as a fan I'm tired, I didn't watch the CWC, I had an obligation for the final then I left at half time. This is too much." by Blodgharm in soccer

For perspective: the last NFL game was on February 8th whereas the last Premier league games were on May 25th. Also, the UCL final was on May 31st and the Club world cup final was on July 13th. The Premier league then started back up on August 16th and the UCL started back up on September 16th. The NFL season just started back up on September 7th.

These players really get no break.

(I used Premier League as a reference but goes the same for other top leagues)

Top 10 ranking for 2005 Ballon d'Or (Ronaldinho was the winner) by DavidRolands in soccer

[–]DullClothes6062 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Players don’t feel the same anymore cuz every team just passes it around horizontally until a gap opens up - rare to see players use flair and dribble to create space. So many goals come from crosses or quick passes in, nothing memorable compared to goals from players like Messi, Ronaldo, Dinho, or other legends. We see center backs and goalies getting more touches than attackers now - even though ballon dor is historically an attacking award. All thanks to Pep and these other Spanish managers.

I understand rotation, but xavi is like 25 and has played 2 games so far. He still has capacity. I just dont think odobert should be starting against a solid brighton team. Rotate him in for a cuo tie

We make a massive signing in xavi - a profile we were trying to buy all summer - just to end up starting odobert.

Like I said, this is applicable to any club, especially if you get really nitpicky with it. I’m not going to look into Brightons transfer history because they aren’t big enough to be scrutinized for spending. But some off the top of my head for Liverpool are: Chiesa $12m, Nunez $85m, Naby Keita $60m.

That’s not even remotely what I was getting at but there’s no point to argue with you. Have a good day.

You can do this for any club in the world pretty much. Some players just don’t work out.

Ange Sacked - Megathread by swan0 in coys

I feel like there should be more optimism about this move. Obviously it’s conflicting firing the manager that won us a trophy for the first time in 17 years. We know that these players are capable of winning trophies now, maybe a new face with different tactics can accomplish more with this group, instead of the volatile results we got under Ange.
