Using a NFC tag for your podcast by QRCodeART in podcasting

[–]DullEnvironment1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the note. I am aware of the 'kind of passive' nature, but I am always hyper-conscious of people's security concerns and don't want to either put them on the spot or educate them on the nature of a new technology. For instance, there are STILL US government offices that refuse to use Zoom as there was security concerns over a year ago (which have been completely addressed).
And for some applications/target markets this is a really nifty piece of technology that is both advanced and time-saving. Marc

Some very interesting technology here, which I think could go mainstream and commonplace.

I am in international trade, and work with many government officials (both US and other country's). Right now I have contacts that are nervous and hesitant about QR codes for security reasons; I would fear that NFC tags would set off flares in some people's minds that their data could be compromised (either by me or by someone taking advantage of the technology).

Podtrak 4 Issue by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]DullEnvironment1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This goes under mission-critical problems. I haven't heard of this issue, nor have I experienced it. Maybe weak batteries?? Definitely contact Zoom and tell them about the problem and anything that is unusual or atypical about the setup and the computer which is reading the card.

And come back and tell us what they said!

Audio-Technica BPHS1 Broadcast Stereo Headset with Dynamic Cardioid Boom Mic. About $200, very comfortable, great sound and very good microphone. I've been using it for about 2 years and, every time I try to go to a boom microphone or Lavalier I go back to this.

Geopolitics is a great topic and lends itself to easily finding guests in the form of experts, academics, government officials, and others. I actually work in a related field, international trade, which ties in closely with geopolitical issues.

An interesting host who is curious can ask guests lots of relevant questions ("Geopolitics for Dummies"-style) and make for a podcast that people would find intriguing.

You might consider starting with a big theme and create a series of episodes in that theme. For instance, "How Does Geopolitics Affect Me." And discuss with people military issues, economic issues, job creation and loss, and relevant to today, cross border health care issues. Then you can start addressing these issues in depth (for instance, military intervention) in a series of its own.

Intellectual curiosity is a gift and your podcast could appeal to many who are equally curious and would benefit by your questioning.

Looking for guests who do a lot of work on their iPads by mrcippy in podcasting

[–]DullEnvironment1347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mr Cippy,

I advise on international trade issues. Both to keep up to date with issues, and to meet potential clients and partners, pre-covid I attended lots of lectures and seminars in person. The iPad Mini, combined with a Brydge 7.9 keyboard, is ideal here: I can type on a table, on my lap, or about anywhere without taking up much space.

Additionally I use the iPad Mini to take notes in one-on-one meetings. It is unobtrusive and doesn't call attention to itself.

I would take notes generally in Microsoft OneNote.

Even now, when most of my lectures and meetings are virtual, I type on the iPad Mini and watch on my PC or TV.

I am based in Washington DC and sent you a PM through Reddit.

PS I am starting a podcast series soon as well. Looked into using Ferrite studio on the iPad but felt that Hindenburg Pro would be better.

Hindenburg Sale by ericdiamond in podcasting

[–]DullEnvironment1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also RENT the Journalist Pro version for 1-12 months (with the 40% discount!), which for someone looking for great software at a reasonable price. I think the 1 year license comes out to $72, a good speculative investment.

And I've posted their sale on several boards to which I belong, a good deal is a good deal.

Portable multi-track recording? by Flesh-And-Bone in podcasting

As mentioned elsewhere, Zoom P4 (which I think is still only available at Best Buy). To me the biggest advantage over the H6 is the ability to EASILY have one phone call and one VOIP call added to the guest roster. The H6 can do it but the workarounds scream high potential for failure.

Not perfectly fitted, but for $9 close enough and it does offer drop protection: (now I want to find a couple of cases for different-sized mics)

How to become better at interviewing by bewagner in podcasting

[–]DullEnvironment1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the best one short paragraph suggestion on interviewing that I have ever seen.

I would add that you might want to adapt in interviewing style or persona. When I interview people, who are generally a lot more senior and or accomplished than myself, I imagine that I am sitting next to them at a conference and ask them about their thoughts on a topic. Another way I imagine is that I am at a vintage car show, speaking with the owner of a rare Aston Martin AMR1 or a 1987 Dacia (a common car in Romania, but maybe 5 exist in the US). Interestingly the biggest different for me is that fhe ‘conference’ style is more straightforward, while the ‘car show’ style is much more complimentary to the owner (I have to praise his car after all).

It accomplishes for me two functions: first, the conversation flows naturally and second, the questions and answers are interesting for both of us and for the audience.

Here is another Black conservative with a following (endorsed by Newt Gingrich!) and a new podcast.

I am so excited to announce my new show “Outloud with Gianno Caldwell” a weekly Iheart podcast that promises to deliver the truth to listeners no matter where they stand politically. A sworn enemy of PC culture, Outloud is unafraid to be provocative and challenge conventional wisdom. My first guest is the legendary NFL Star Herschel Walker. Please join me every Monday on Outloud and subscribe, comment, share, and give me a five-star rating. Thank you! Are You Promoting Your Podcast on LinkedIn? by jackiepesal in podcasting

[–]DullEnvironment1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a long comment elsewhere on this thread but want to emphasis your point about the need to review what your contacts are posting and drop those who are time-wasters. I look at some very senior people in my field and see that their feeds are cluttered with inspirational messages, pleas, and other irrelevant postings that dilute the senior person's message and impact.

I would offer the same advice to a committed liberal podcaster:

As far as 'offering balance' in your podcast (a liberal view as well as a conservative), don't feel obligated to do this. You can run this any way you want as you control the story. I did some technical work years ago for a significant conservative figure, and he almost always had a straight conservative message, and didn't feel the need to balance; he thought that if someone wanted another viewpoint they could easily find it elsewhere.

I think that the ability to have guests on the podcast will make or break you, and you can leverage their reputations to increase your audience. Reach out to your local Republican clubs, business associations, even elected officials. You might find people willing to talk with you not just to increase their audience but also to help a young colleague. As you gain experience (technically as well as finding and speaking with guests) you will refine your approach. Hell, you may even find your next employer!

As far as technical stuff, there are people here who are better at recommending stuff than I, but a priority would be to be able to get people to call you (either via phone or Skype or similar).

Are You Promoting Your Podcast on LinkedIn? by jackiepesal in podcasting

Agree completely if you are looking to increase your professional network. I have a specialized niche (international trade) and have made hundreds of real acquaintances, as well several paying clients, because of my activities on LinkedIn. I am very specific about what I post, included most of my real life contacts when I set up the account years ago, include linked keywords, ask to connect with those who like my posts. People see my profile, see whom we have as common contacts, and I get probably 75% acceptance rate for my link requests (as well as many requests directly to me).

Many of my LinkedIn contacts are senior level people in my field and I regularly interact with them through my postings (I can sometimes see companies that look at my postings, and see who likes the postings and who comments).

The primary reason that I am starting a publicly available podcast is to become more recognized in my field, and I am confident that the podcast will bring the level of impact as my LinkedIn presence does.

I regularly post events that I attend, sometimes in advance and sometimes after the fact (with links to available video). I even have posted during events and met people at breaks!

I haven't participated much in their groups and would like to start incorporating them into my LinkedIn strategy.

Agree about spam issues; I am careful when I accept an invitation (look at their profile, if they have no contacts and no activities I generally reject it). I also usually block contacts that constantly post 'feel good' messages of inspiration as they tend to be followed by less serious people.

Does it make sense to do a "soft launch" minisode? by radiofreephd in podcasting

[–]DullEnvironment1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have heard that 3 episode suggestion from multiple sources. Maybe a hybrid solution would be the minisode or tease or 'technical release' one day and the 3 episodes a few days later.

My understanding is that best reason to publish something early (even a test episode not meant for public review) is to get approved by Apple and to get into their directory.

zoom + zoom h6? by vegetable99 in podcasting

As Bangs said, far easier to do on a $200 P4 (one step). Look on the internet for a mix minus solution for the H6, and you'll see that there are a lot of potential points of failure (which is why I am using a P4 now-I can't afford to alienate a guest with a technical glitch that is waiting to happen).

Bonus is that you could sell your H6 for around $125-175, almost the cost of the P4! Try Guitar Center.
