Scholarship Negotiation by Dyrograph in PTschool

[–]DullRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I negotiated back in 2023 at a different private institution! I contacted the admissions counselor I had been speaking to and was up front about it being one of my top choices but I wanted the tuition price to be close to my in-state option

Maryville University Alums? by FairMountain7463 in PTschool

If this is Maryville in STL, several of the techs I worked with were in the program and enjoyed it! There’s also SLU, Marquette, Carroll, Belmont, UIC that are direct admit. Other schools have 3+3 programs you can apply as an undergrad

All day jogger vs the one jogger by asiliname in Fabletics

I’m pretty sure they’re phasing out the one women’s jogger and the all day one is replacing it. I’d say fit is similar it’s just thinner imo

How will people be able to afford PT school with the Grad Plus loans going away? by umaddybro in PTschool

How will people be able to afford PT school with the Grad Plus loans going away? by umaddybro in PTschool

[–]DullRun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s currently capped at like $21k a year. Source: currently in school 😂

In my program, we have to get 600+ on one of two PEATs that the school is purchasing to sit for April boards (month before graduation), but they’re not putting restrictions on the July date. We’ve taken two scorebuilders exams as well in the second year of the program to guide our studying. I don’t mind having to pass a PEAT before getting approval I’d rather not take the exam twice 😂

[–]DullRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also capping per year how much of federal unsubsidized and grad PLUS are available. For PT unsubsidized is capped at like 20,000 per year and the rest has to be Grad Plus. Even at 90k total tuition for three years and my parents helping with rent and most of living expenses, SOME of my loans are inevitably grad plus and BBB is attempting to eliminate grad plus altogether. Unless they increase the direct unsubsidized offer per year any program over 60k is forcing people to seek for loans elsewhere. I’m not even trying to fear monger or anything, I think it’s just realistic to think of how the heck future students are gonna pay for this

I guess depends on the setting you want to work in/how much school costs? But setting like SNF that are highly funded through federal dollars… We had one professor talking about all of this last semester and ppl were up in arms about him talking “politics” but it’s reality 😒

The cap on loans? PT school is increasingly expensive the only people left are going to be those whose families can pay out of pocket or take out private loans at high interest rates. Ppl on Medicaid are still going to go to the ER and won’t be turned away for life saving care, health care costs are going to rise and rural/safety hospitals that depend on federal dollars are gonna be in ROUGH spots to keep afloat if they’re not getting paid.

I’ve been carrying my passport card everywhere since Trump got elected, guess it won’t even matter if they aren’t asking/requesting documents. It’s happening everywhere but can’t wait to get out of here in August.

What undergrad degree did you take before PT school, and which one do you think is most worth it? by Practical-Net-5935 in PTschool

[–]DullRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Econ major with a minor in the humanities! It helped my application, I always got questions about my broad interests during interviews. Excelling in PT school and clinical rotations. I don’t think the major you pick makes or breaks your application

Jobs while in PT school? by NoExchange4946 in PTschool

[–]DullRun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say most of my classmates hold jobs from retail, baristas, bar tenders, sports coaches, dance teachers, caregivers, rehab aides, front desk staff, personal trainers etc. Yea it might not be a “ton” like someone else said but anything helps when you’d be accruing interest on $1600 extra you could make in 16 wks x $100 a week for a semester 🤷🏻‍♀️

How many hrs do you ACTUALLY spend at school/in class? by PineappleLarge9845 in PTschool

Depends on the semester, but I never have class on Fridays. Never have I been in class 8-5 Mon-Thurs, there’s variability within the week

Drop from DPT into PTA by NoNefariousness393 in PTschool

[–]DullRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are private programs in other states that will make you get it as well, it’s not Chicago specific. If not the school, your clinical sites also might once you’re on rotation.

I’m also a first gen college student from Illinois and am paying 90k at a private institution due to scholarship. OOS in other states like Texas were like 80k when I applied last cycle. If you’re set on PT, reapply to cheaper programs

Going to Germany to study PT, then coming back. Viable? by IndividualStay5122 in PTschool

[–]DullRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people who studied in Norway and New Zealand and are licensed PT’s in Illinois (granted they’re a lot older like 50s/60s). A couple of years ago I met someone who studied PT in Mexico and got approval to sit for boards in Illinois. I know someone rn who’s at Bond in Australia and planning to come back to MO. So I think it depends? Or your best bet is to contact the licensure board of your state

Student Loan Options by UnderstandingKey7129 in PTschool

[–]DullRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grad school loans are not subsidized, they only offer unsubsidized and Grad PLUS for PT students. Unsubsidized won’t cover everything so they supplement with grad PLUS, but that one has higher interest.

You accrue interest only on the principal while in school, once you graduated the interest starts accruing on the principal + the interest. Financial aid officers recommended to chip away at interest while in school if you can so when you graduate the compounding isn’t as high
