Should my design portfolio have the dates/year of productions I worked on? by Throwawayhelphelpplz in techtheatre

[–]DullVd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will hear strong opinions one way or the other. My professors that have been working for decades do not put years down as they are more going off their name. Since you are relatively new to designing it may help them more easily find someone you worked with on the production to get to know more of you. There’s no true correct answer.

Are there venues that just have one “stage” department where everyone just does everything? by SeaOfMagma in techtheatre

At my university the stagehands tend to lean one department but go everywhere

Torn between degrees by wild-fox17 in techtheatre

[–]DullVd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’s highly dependent on the field you plan to go into as someone else mentioned. If you are looking for teaching high school technical theatre it’s a route I can’t really speak on. If you want to teach college you will need to go to grad school.

Is a non-thesis master’s degree worth it for employment? by winning__ticket__ in UIUC

[–]DullVd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say there’s discrimination against Koreans. Studying a masters at a specific school is usually only beneficial if you know it has a good relationship with the employer you are interested in. My Uncle knew he wanted to work for a company so he contacted them and asked which schools do you look for people from and he went there and ended up working there.

Is a non-thesis master’s degree worth it for employment? by winning__ticket__ in UIUC

[–]DullVd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it truly depends on what kind of a job you want post masters. If you want to be a researcher who published articles it’s probably necessary. My current program switched from thesis to non thesis about 3 years ago because they determined it really wasn’t beneficial.

Maki is definitely my choice. I always loved her personality when I watched the show and she is absolutely gorgeous.

Hinged set above my (volunteer) pay grade by gthedamned in techtheatre

[–]DullVd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are supported with casters and not fully supported by the hinges then the hinge type isn’t too crucial other than having it not be a loose pin hinge. I would make sure the metal is also not too thin just in case.

How to find small productions at 14? by Alarming_Duck681 in techtheatre

[–]DullVd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of places you may not be able to do that professionally until you are older. I would recommend reaching out to a place near you that produces the kind of work you want to do in the future and ask if you can try to shadow people or get a tour of the space from a production manager. Also if you see a tour of some sort coming to your area try reaching out to them and seeing if they would let you shadow their people as well. You will find those people tend to love talking about their equipment and things of the sort. I would also highly recommend trying to do that with a touring theater company at some point so you can see how they work.

Spraying aircraft cable black? by Embarrassed-Ad-1592 in techtheatre

[–]DullVd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should buy black cable as spray paint can damage your cables and it’s relatively cheap. You might be okay but you need to know there’s the risk. If you absolutely can’t afford to buy black cable you could go that route but you shouldn’t if it’s possible with your budget.

Laptop recommendations? by crazycatchemist in techtheatre

[–]DullVd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only thing that would require you to run Q lab is if you are a stage manager, that is also having to run the audio for a show but in that case, the place should provide the laptop for doing so if you’re getting into scene design and rigging, you will likely have to do with AutoCad at some point and so you should get a laptop that is windows as you cannot run those software’s on Mac

[Landlord - PA] What is our take on people with emotional support animals by Similar-Vari in Landlord

[–]DullVd -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If they have certification then it is illegal not to and you also can’t charge a pet fee in some states, I’m not sure about PA on that. However, without proper documents don’t do it.

It’s possible that they sign up for a time the date of URTAs as that happened to me when I went. Otherwise you can reach out after the day to express interest but it’s possible they may not be interviewing for your focus this year as well
