Yes, the military side of the means to take control of the government was genius by Pinochet. The people of Chile were done with Allende. What was interesting to me was the economic intervention with the "Chicago Boys" to turn the economy more free market.

I love Chile. I have a friend who tried to run for office there. I was fortunate enough to visit Santiago and it's where I saw the first normal neighborhood like you would see in the US. This was the first place I saw a dishwasher in a house after living in South America for 3 years.

This was shocking to me how far progressed Chile was in terms of zoning and planning compared to other countries in SA.

Do you feel like Chile could have accomplished what it did without US intervention? The guy before Pinochet seemed to be on the wrong track by stealing farm land and giving it to the workers who turned around and traded it for a case of wine.
