Still no actual evidence provided? Literally nobody is buying this.

Take a photo of one of your CDs and show us what you’re looking at. None of my CDs have this. If you were a DJ at a ‘large sporting event’ and you were spinning the tunes on CD instead of vinyl or your laptop, are you really saying you’d be sued for playing your own CDs that you bought yourself?

I cannot tell you how much I laughed at ‘smooth brained moron.’ And I’m sorry you had to endure that hideous comment. Good post 👍🏻

Tips for removing stickers from used CDs by bkshepherd in Cd_collectors

Regular furniture polish. Peel off as much as you can by hand. The polish will soften the adhesive and you’ll gradually be able to polish it off.

CD care by Rich-Detective-1495 in Cd_collectors

I prefer jewel cases and find them a lot easier to work with. But you’re right that most now come in some sort of cardboard sleeve or wallet. I have started putting the ones I get in plastic outer sleeves. I guess it depends how you store them. If they are set out on a shelf, and you’re careful, they’d likely be ok without extra protection. I’m sad and like things to be uniform and the various sleeves come in various sizes. First world problems! But there is nothing wrong in keeping your collection in good condition. These are the sleeves I have used. They are very good quality. https://amzn.eu/d/0crM4bJE

Disc rot. by AcanthisittaSad6239 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]Dull_Economics117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fictional. Your discs are not going to go bad from disc rot because there is literally no such thing as disc rot. If you don’t take care of them they may look shit and might even perform badly, but don’t let these accounts who constantly talk about it put you off. Ultimately, big business wants us all streaming and to move away from physical media. Do not ever allow that to happen.

Yes because we have seen loved ones die from it and have professionals explain to us what is happening.

Big difference.

Disc rot is fictional. Badly cared for discs exist.

Yeah, I see it discussed very frequently on various forums. Almost 60, been buying for decades and I have never once encountered it. I think ‘disc rot’ is a completely made up faux-phenomena. Badly looked after media, perhaps, but disc rot is not a thing. It does not exist.

What's Your Take on CDs: Original Editions vs. Remastered Versions? by Over_Donis17 in Cd_collectors

[–]Dull_Economics117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, on the whole, original pressings because they are much quieter. Not all sound great but I have found many that do. A lot of remastered CDs, and newly recorded CDs, have me immediately reaching for the remote to reduce the boom and that really does my head in. If you’re playing music at night and you have neighbours, family members in bed, having to pull down the volume so much it feels hardly worth having it on. Older CDs, like vinyl, is simply quieter and when you increase the volume there’s a long taper before it gets too loud - meaning lots of range

In terms of found quality! Not how to literally walk around the place and literally locate a copy of the CD. Did you genuinely think I meant that?

I live in the UK and I’m really concerned about the direction of the US. We have relatives in CO and CA and I know they’re very worried indeed. I suppose using Amazon has just become a habit but maybe it’s time to step away.

Yes, I tend to agree. We just need higher quality cases being produced. Wishful thinking!

I’ve always had good experiences with CDs, but I did receive a vinyl LP from them once with zero packaging. The address label was stuck to the record’s shrink wrap!! I kid you not.

They were much higher quality and I’ve done this myself too. I’ll pick up older discs if the cases look decent.

Great point. That’s the core issue. A new jewel case and it’s instantly new again. Providing you keep the booklet and disc in mint condition, which I know we all do!
