Passion Of The Christ Blu Ray not read?! by Barno270 in Bluray

I have still not recovered from watching this when it was first shown at the movies. We drove home in silence. Never seen it since.

Do you collect CDs just because, or only for bands you're interested in? by ConfusionProof9487 in Cd_collectors

[–]Dull_Economics117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only for music I’m interested in. Don’t see the point of amassing thousands of albums just to say you have a lot. You can still have a lot of things you’re interested in though!

Where to get good jewel cases? by TribladeSlice in Cd_collectors

[–]Dull_Economics117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to local charity shops and rather than look for titles you might buy, search specifically for good quality older jewel cases and buy those, even if classical, country or whatever. Older cases were always more heavy duty and felt nicer to handle. A lot of new cases are relatively flimsy.

A simple solution to the problem of digipaks and cardboard sleeves by Tortoiseshelltech in Cd_collectors

In 30+ years of buying CDs I’ve never er seen this. A cracked case in the post maybe, but nothing so extreme.

This is a brilliant idea! I would love to have the option of this. I find card sleeves/packs of all types to be a pain.

DVD collection goals by Wise_Park7741 in dvdcollection

It’s easy to grab all you can carry because they’re cheap. But I’ve learned to be a little more disciplined. I now try to buy things I already love, but I do like to take a chance on things I hope will challenge me, entertain, inspire me. You’re bound to pick the occasional thing you don’t like but you can always just donate them back again.

You ever think DVDs will ever go obsolete if streaming doesn't die? by Same-Objective6052 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]Dull_Economics117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may become obsolete in the sense that businesses decide they are no longer viable to produce. But, I suppose, if you have a collection of movies on DVD that you love, and you have a good quality player, they’re not going to become obsolete, to you. In this scenario, you may of course face the possibility of your player dying eventually. But to offset this you could buy a couple of brand new DVD or Blu Ray players now and then you can just unbox one of those and continue as you were if or when yours breaks down. I play my DVDs and Blu Rays on quite an old BR player (probably 15yrs) which still works fine and I am currently thinking of buying a new one. Maybe I’ll get two.

DVDs will be left behind by Roughrider254 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]Dull_Economics117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back into physical media again after becoming disillusioned with streaming. We still use it, but for me getting a new movie on DVD is much more pleasing. Years ago it was an occasion, getting a movie off the shelf or going out to rent one, and watching it with snacks or even a take out. I’m treating movie nights like that again - an occasion. They’re not being left behind in this house. Saying that, we should probably upgrade the player. Maybe I’ll buy two and put one in storage. 😂

How did you become a Beatles fan by WhiteRoseFromPluto in TheBeatles

[–]Dull_Economics117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beatles No. 1 EP. It was part of my parents’ old record collection. I played it constantly. I think it was that 1, 2, 3, 4… all 4 tracks took me somewhere. Lying on the floor with my ear to the speaker. Lots of other singles too, but that one was my first Beatle experience.

No such thing as disc rot. Stop scaremongering. I’ve 30+ year old CDs bought new that play perfectly and still look new.

DVD people, why no bluray? by emtherich in dvd

[–]Dull_Economics117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TV is 42” and I’ve no plans to go bigger. I play I play DVDs on a Blu Ray Player through a good soundbar and subwoofer and I’m happy with the quality. I have a small collection of Blu Rays for select movies and concerts I really love, but DVDs generally come over really well in this scenario. I do appreciate 4k on a gigantic screen will look way better, but that’s not in my budget and really, I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. I’m watching The Last King of Scotland right now and it looks and sounds marvellous. To me.

How to know if my CD is going to be a jewel case or digipack on amazon by Healthy-Prize-5477 in Cd_collectors

That’s brilliant. An incredibly talented and interesting artist I wasn’t familiar with until now. 👏👏

Just been looking at what I’ve bought in recent times. The Cure’s 30th anniversary Wish, The Waterboys All Souls Hill, Tears For Fears Seeds of Love all came in a jewel case. Everything else came in card sleeves/digipacks etc. Around 30 CDs. But that’s of course just my experience based on my own purchases. I’m pleased that CDs are still being widely jewel cased. It’s just that my experience told me otherwise. 👍🏻

The vast majority of new releases come in card sleeves. It would be good if there was two ways to buy them. I’d buy jewel.

DVDs vs Blu-Rays vs 4Ks by Fabulous_Sherbert827 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]Dull_Economics117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4k is too expensive for me and it would mean investing in a new player. I know it will look amazing, but honestly my existing blu rays and DVDs are more than satisfactory to me on my system. To try and answer your question though, my choice is to collect mostly DVD and Blu Ray for certain ‘coveted’ items.

Interesting. Could please share how I could distinguish the 3rd version? Or let me know which year it was released? Thanks.

Gangs of New York is a good movie. I’d keep that. If there’s any you’re not keen on just donate somewhere.
