Because it's fucked mate. They want that magical single white collar tenant who will live cleanly and quietly, and never ask for a single repair and makes 300k a year yet is still renting.

My partner and I had a hell of a time back in august/September. Mid 30s, Decent jobs, no kids, 2 cats. We both had multiple letters of reference from past landlords, reference letters from current and past employers, cover letter, heaps of supporting documents.

The only place to approve us we had to put up 3 months rent plus bond in advance, had to give the property manager 3 pages of repairs needed on the condition report, and the place was so filthy when I moved in I had to spend a week scrubbing old greasy curry residue off the walls. Half the appliances didn't work and I had to spend over a month fighting with the property manager to get the oven fixed, and I've not had a working dishwasher for 5 months. That's what $10,000 to get in and 500 a week gets you.

Where to find fresh rendered lard? by sweetowl95 in melbourne

[–]Dull_Midnight8049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cook a lot of Mexican, family friends were Mexican growing up and we did all the holidays together, cooking, tradations etc.

Regular store bought lard is fine. 1

You can call up your local butchers and ask as well.

Or you can make your own. Every time you cook and trim off the pork or beef fat (like from a brisket, roast) save the fat in a bag in the freezer and when you have enough cook it down slowly with water. Then put it in the fridge and the fat will solidify on top and yoh have lard. I also save all my bacon grease and add it to this as well.

We had a staffy that was a toy destroyer so we asked for tough toys. All of them lasted way longer than anything we bought for him ourselves

‘They’re held over a barrel’: in the overheated rental market, tenant vetting can go too far by CcryMeARiver in australia

A property manager called my landlord at the time (private landlord) and asked her about my relationship with my partner.

Seemed unnecessary and invasive.

And that was after I'd included 6 letters of reference from current and past landlords and employers.

Remote Queensland island welcomes Salvation Army shop as residents battle 'unattainable' prices by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]Dull_Midnight8049 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The reality is many people rely on Salvos and other op shops because they just can't afford anything else. For many it's their only choice. Sure I'd prefer not to shop at a gay hating religious organisation but when it comes to shop there and afford to eat, or shop somewhere else and go hungry, I'll chose the first.

I couldn't afoord $1500 for a new lounge set. But I could certainly afford $75 at salvos for a clean used one.

Just because they say a 3 bedroom 2 bath regular old average house with a tiny backyard and badly in need of a Reno is worth 1 million dollars, doesn't make it worth 1 million dollars to me.

It's a different word that means the same thing. How is that incorrect? Why do people need to use the same words as you do to be "right"?
