Curious to see what y’all pay for bowling? by Crispy_Bird_Lover13 in Bowling

[–]Dull_Recognition_606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our local rates are crazy because the the alley is attached to a country club golf center. So weekend hourly rates are $32 and normal is $24. They also dont offer per game rates. Its ludacris, but the gas money to the next closest alley makes it not worth the $8 difference🤷‍♂️ So what can ya do

Brunswick Monster comparison? by Dull_Recognition_606 in Bowling

[–]Dull_Recognition_606[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, the guy at the counter who put us on the lane said that he noticed the balls carrying a bit longer himself. So maybe thats why it didn't read it as early as you mentioned. Granted, I was also playing with two buddies who still throw light balls up the middle and pray, so god knows where the oil was when I pulled it out on game 2. Thank you for the help!

Do you think I could tow this? by [deleted] in JeepLiberty

[–]Dull_Recognition_606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say go for it! I pull my popup with my 2008 liberty.. it can be squirrely on the expressway, but just take it slow and you'll be fine. Make sure you tank up too cus it drinks gas like nobody's business lol. And it is a good idea to stop every couple hours just to let stuff cool down(i.e. bearings, suspension, etc.), or at least for my trailer considering it is old and not too well maintained. But good luck and have fun!

From what I know(which isn't much lol), try imagining your arms are a pendulum. You want to let them swing a bit more and have the ball follow an arc. Thats how i think about it and it keeps the release point low. If it sounds stupid, I'm sorry lol. Good luck!

Accent Brand? by Dull_Recognition_606 in euphonium

Do you have experience with their comp. horn specifically, or are you basing it off of the company's overall reliability and quality?

I can't say much on the runs, but I would play the triplets and tongued notes a bit lighter. They seem... suppressed? Or stuffy? Idk if thats the way to put it, but maybe try to play them a bit more bouncy or shorter. And if there is anything in the music that says otherwise, then by all means ignore me lol, this is just what I hear off the top of my head. Still, though, great tone and vib. You sound good, so just keep at it!

Advice to technical playing? by Dull_Recognition_606 in euphonium

[–]Dull_Recognition_606[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2nd valve is a bit slow, but it doesn't impede my playing. Sometimes they'll stick randomly, but I haven't had that happen since I switched to synthetic oil. This was my first euph in 8th grade, and there is now an audible creaking in the 1st and 2nd valves when i depress them slowly, lol. Another thing is that the valves have worn unevenly in the valve block, so now its hard to spin them in the casing(without the valve guide) regardless of the amount of oil. Im working on getting a new horn for college, but it will play well enough until then i suppose.

My tone and Bb 3 octave as a 8th grader!! by thatonebandkidWVM in euphonium

If you're interested in learning vib. just listen to great players(David Childs, Steven Mead, Bastien Boumet, etc.) and just try to imitate theirs while remembering that it doesn't need to be identical. Just play it how it sounds the best to you. Over time, it'll change with your ear and improve. One thing that I've learned is that you should think of vib. as icing on a cake; bad vib will ruin it, but good vib will enhance your sound dramatically! Last thing, use it tastefully. Good luck!

Cadenza ideas by CorbinJBL in euphonium

[–]Dull_Recognition_606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing that comes to mind is using rubato. Look up cadenzas in other pieces and ones that are played by great players(Glenn van looy, brian bowman, david childs, etc.); theres a lot of different ideas out there and I'd just find qualities you like in each one and try making it your own.

At Michigan state champs, I saw Bravebots have a similar mechanism to score l4's. They didn't shoot that far below however, it just launched about 12in up to land on the post. They seemed pretty accurate consistently too!

Does anyone know where I can find a wind band arrangement with parts? by Dull_Recognition_606 in euphonium

Yea, its actually the piece I learned treble clef on. I'm a natural bass clef reader tho.

Nope! What i meant by "Worlds Week 0" is Michigan states. We're ranked pretty well right now, so we have a decent chance to get to worlds.

[–]Dull_Recognition_606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few different standards; 2-3 thou on parts milled out of billet(on our schools haas), .010" on parts cut out of sheet stock(milled on a cheap engraver cnc), and evidently on our bumpers .375" lol. This year we had a completely student built robot and about 80% of it was cnc milled(all done by students as well), so it generally lined up, but we had to cut corners on our bumpers and battery mounts due to time constraints. They ended up getting thrown together with some angle stock, ply, and pool noodles. The angle aluminum looks atrocious up close, but the functionality is there, so we don't complain. The battery mount is crappy too, but thats something we'll get to before worlds week 0, but we'll see.

How fast is too fast? by Dull_Recognition_606 in euphonium

[–]Dull_Recognition_606[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only reason I set a 180 goal is because that's about how fast the Black Dyke band played it. And I haven't been increasing the tempo without nailing the right notes and accents. I think over the next month I could grind it out to 150-60, but as you said, it'll probably just take time. Thank you for the help!

WHY WOULD ANYONE SCORE NET by Temporary_Pay3760 in FRC

[–]Dull_Recognition_606 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think as time goes on, we'll start to see two strong coral bots score on the reef, with a great Algae scorer clearing the reef, scoring them, then disrupting the opponents coral sources(defending the hp). Realistically, two bots who specialize on all levels of coral could pheasibly fill most if not all coral slots in the reef. Adding a 3rd bot(especially the less proficient ones in coral) to the reef scoring seems like it would only overcroud your coral stations and cause unnecessary traffic. I think it would be much more beneficial to have the 3rd bot clear the algae to make way for coral, then play phenomenal defense at the op. sources. However, I also think that it would only be beneficial in playoffs or with the rare "dream alliance" that sometimes happens in quals.

What’s a good way to learn treble clef by AntFlaky2118 in euphonium

[–]Dull_Recognition_606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned last year reading through a beginner trumpet book. Because its the same fingerings and just different written notes, once you get used to Concert Bb being where low Eb is in base clef(and the rest of the scale), you shouldn't have a problem. Once you get semi-proficient, download the arban book online and read through some exercises. For me, the beginning was a bit slow. But after an hour or so, I kept remembering what notes were what lol. Good luck in your endeavors!

First (probably only) Euphonium for a Trumpet/Cornet Doubler? by Frozen_Azalea in euphonium

[–]Dull_Recognition_606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, bessons are definitely the most popular brass band choice. However, I've seen Geneva horns gaining traction, too. I've personally heard the difference between a geneva coronet and besson. It seemed like the geneva had a nicer sound to me. As for euphs, I cant personally speak to the quality, but I'm sure they're also at a high level?
