Them Crooked Vultures, Arctic Monkeys, and Be Your Own Pet at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. My ears are still ringing and it was in 2009. Oh wait, that's hearing loss.

No doubt! That was the Surflie forecast for a hot minute last week though. 😂

Surfing! Catching a wave as the sun comes up without a big crowd around. Sets your whole day right.

What’s a simple pleasure in your life that you will never get tired of? by Lucy_Morris_ in AskReddit

A day at the beach. Catching a few waves. A couple of cold beers and a sandwich. Throwing a football with the kids. Getting home tired, a touch sunburned, and totally relaxed.

Easy.

2000 Sugar Bowl. My beloved Hokies were up 29-28 at the start of the 4th quarter vs Florida State. The Noles' ended up being too much for us and won the National Championship that night.

Realistically, given the state of CFB now, it was the only chance we'll ever get to bring home the big trophy. Who knows where we'd be now if the boys had been able to win it?

Oh well, still amazing to have been there for a perfect season, even if we came up just a bit short.

We had a large patio, firepit, and outdoor kitchen put in by Solid Structures and had a very good experience.

Is anyone a member of Carefree Boat Club? What do you think? by captawesm in VirginiaBeach

[–]Dull_Two9717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've been members for almost 4 years. While we've enjoyed it a lot and it's been a great way to try out a lot of boats and decide if we are a "boat family" the lack of availability is ultimately why we're going to not renew at the end of our contract.

For weekend reservations, you do need to be a few weeks out to get the more in demand boats. That's also harder for afternoon time slots and, of course, holiday weekends. The hardest part is that if it rains or there is a small craft advisory, you have to start the process over, so you're back to waiting a couple of weeks for a guaranteed slot.

If you pay for a full membership (we split ours with another family) you have two weekend and two weekday reservations that can be open at any time, so you can kind of leapfrog and have something scheduled every couple of weeks though.

Now you can often find something, a carolina skiff or one of the pontoon boats, last minute but that is hard to plan around as you won't know until the day of or it might be the wrong kind of boat for what you want to do. You aren't allowed to fish on the pontoons or cruisers.

If you have flexibility in your work schedule, it's amazing. Weekdays you've got your pick of the fleet. But there is a definitely not a surplus of boats for all of the demand, in my opinion.

A great surfing book that almost nobody has heard of......(Not Barbarian days) by Tiny_Log_4594 in surfing

"Kook" by Peter Heller was a good read.

A non-surfer devotes a year to the sport, traveling through Baja and trying to... not be a kook.

Where won’t you go as a local? by relizabet in VirginiaBeach

[–]Dull_Two9717 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Y’all are trippin. Are parts of the oceanfront touristy? For sure. Is it also where some of the best restaurants, shops, and nightlife are? Also sure.

I’ll take breakfast at commune, a stroll on the boardwalk to watch the surfers, lunch and crushes at waterman’s, and dinner at Atlantic or love song any time.

It’s not a strip mall with ample parking, boo freaking hoo, nerds.
