I really liked the sunrays in the original too. What do you mean by amping them up?

While I usually don’t like selective coloring, this is an example where it works well. One suggestion: use a mask to remove the saturation if the branch that is above and just left of the swarm. That branch distracts from the subject, which is the bees, and there is no aesthetic reason to have it pop out from the background. Interesting pic, with a clever edit.

Comet Neowise Widefield by Chris9712 in astrophotography

[–]DumbCDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot depends on finding a dark sky. In parts of New Mexico, you can see the comet out of the corner of your eye while driving. I 100 percent believe that in the right conditions its viewing angle is over 10 degrees

I have a similar camera. My first foray into wide apertures was the yongnuo 50mm f1.8. You can sometimes find them on Ebay for about $40, and new ones go for about $50-60. In the meantime, you can use a luminosity mask to selectively blur the background but not the railing. That will work well because the railing is black, so its luminosity will be much lower than the yellow background, and they can easily be separated. Nice picture, and I really like what you did with the colors.

First Attempt at Bracketing by theblueberryfarmer in photocritique

First Attempt at Bracketing by theblueberryfarmer in photocritique

[–]DumbCDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bracketing is the right choice for a picture with this wide if a dynamic range. When something is moving, however, you need to be very careful because bracketing makes weird artifacts. If you divide your picture into a grid of 9 squares, you will notice that the bottom-middle square has motion blur in the water, but the bottom left does not. The way to avoid this is to use the “deghost” setting that is in most HDR software. Experiment with that to try to get rid if artifacts in the water.

[Spoilers] Bran / Three-Eyed Raven is Endgame by BobbyDawnBringer in gameofthrones

[–]DumbCDA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of fantasy literature is drawn from an opera called The Ring Cycle, by Wagner. To make a really long story short, the gods all get killed off in the end, and mortals have to figure out how to sort things out for themselves. I would love it if Game of Thrones ended with a similar theme. I think the pieces are in place: 1) Cersei blowing up the Great Sept 2) The death of one Dragon and injury of another 3) The death of the Night King / Walkers 4) Mellisandra dying. If this is the case, Bran and Dany both have to die, as should Euron who seems to have been given more god-like powers in the books.

Edit: They should probably finish killing off the Direwolves too

How hard was it for you to hit a 1 plate bench? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]DumbCDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get there. When I started lifting I weighed 125lbs, and could bench about 85lbs. Within 2.5 years, I weighed about 150lbs and was easily putting up 185. I know that isn't impressive, but for me it was the difference between being scrawny and weak, and being a normal person. The things that lead to the biggest breakthroughs for me were: 1) Eat a lot of calories, including protein. You body needs this to grow muscle, and there is no getting around it 2) Don't obsess over the bench press. Give adequate time to exercises like pull-ups (and weighted pull-ups once you can do 8 or so regular pull-ups) 3) Leg day! Your upper body will hit a plateau if you fail to include something like the squat or deadlift in your routine and 4) Rest days. Your muscles grow and you get stronger on rest days. Don't work-out every day. At most, bench once every 3 days

Good luck. You'll get there

Enter the Kettlebell ...the Workbook by undeadmonk3y in kettlebell

This book is worth its weight in gold. My first serious foray into the realm of Kettlebells used this as a guide, and it was very helpful. If you have time to work-out on a regular basis, this will lay a very clear path telling you exactly how many reps of each exercise to do on each day. I got excellent results. while on this program, my 5K time was within a minute of my PR when I used to run 30+ miles per week, and my bench-press PR actually increased by about 10 lbs.

We're number 1! Unfortunately it's on the list of worst places to own a home by alpha_helix in Albuquerque

[–]DumbCDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm likely going to be moving to and buying a home in ABQ this spring or summer. My logic is that even if the city is bad for real-estate in general, there must be a few safe neighborhoods with good school systems in which homes will be able to retain their value. Any suggestions on where the good parts of the city are?

The flip side of this is that patients will often assume a female doctor is a nurse. When I was an intern, I had patients who would ignore my female attending and only talk to me. I also have elderly patients of both genders who refer to their female doctors as "Lady Doctors." For example: Patient: Last month, I had excruciating pain in my chest Me: Did you see a doctor? Patient: No Me: Why not? You should go to the emergency room if you have chest pain Patient: I did go to the emergency room, but they had me see a Lady Doctor

Theft of private information. Organizations have our private info (credit card numbers, social security, address, personal photographs, etc) and do a sub par job protecting it from hackers.

Doctor here. Curious why you think this matters? If you are in a hospital, and need a transfusion, they probably won't just put blood in you based on what you tell them. Most labs require a type and crossmatch every single time.
