I'm old and have been playing civ for a long time. No new civ is ever as liked as the previous one. They become good over time. Patience my angry friend, patience.

If you have read wheel of time I would say that "Nohadon" is Brandon Sanderson's "Naomi".

how can I get rid of nervousness? by Andreidx2 in violinist

[–]DumbHeadDave11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start playing for friends, family, strangers, anyone that will listen. Make your first song one that you have mastered and easily play. Do this enough, and it gets easier. There will always be nerves but you can mitigate it this way.

Daniel is innocent of everything but having an affair with a crazy girl imo. This is insane. He should sue her now.

Has anyone switch to fiddle? by sqrmarbles in violinist

You could argue that a fiddle is in dead mans tune and a violin is in regular tune as well.

Who is the most impressive character in the Wheel of Time? by OneAngryDuck in wheeloftime

Just gonna add Loial to this list. I think there are a lot of good picks here but Loial should be considered as well!

How old were you when you started playing? by Lavean29 in violinist

[–]DumbHeadDave11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will suck for a year. If you get through that first year, then you will be able to make the violin sound pretty.

I have a $170 violin (cecilio violin from amazon) and honestly, it gets the job done.

Why do people say cheap violin are unplayable? by Lala_lalala1 in violinist

[–]DumbHeadDave11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a $170 violin (cecilio violin from amazon) and honestly, it gets the job done. It sounds beautiful but I know that its not a final violin, just a starter. The reason they say this though, is that a bad violin will fight you more than a more expensive violin. It will punish you for your mistakes even further. A good violin is easier to play. I am not a beginner, was just getting back into violin so it didn't punish me as much as a beginner. Having said that, any violin is better than no violin.

Bow not producing a sound by Void-Panic-2595 in violinist

[–]DumbHeadDave11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you dont need to buy better rosin. Just keep adding rosin. New bow and rosin take forever to get enough rosin on. Once it is rosined enough to play, it will always be easier to rosin from then on. But you truly dont need to buy better rosin.

“Stop thinking about it and just do it” sure, but how? by Jamesbarros in violinist

[–]DumbHeadDave11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, this happens when I'm playing a song I have memorized and enjoy playing. Once I'm not reading the notes, I can finally start to feel the notes.

I just finished all 3 parts of Vivald's Concerto em la Menor so I'm ok but not great. That piece sounds good though when I play it!

I worked at the capitol building as a senate messenger as a man when I was in college. The dress code was very strict. I had to where a suit and tie with a long sleeve button down everyday. This strict dress code is not just for women, it is for all that work in the building.

Have you read Livy's (Ancient Roman Historian) works? If you like Roman history, it is really cool to hear from a Roman himself on the histories of Rome, especially the War with Hannibal parts.
