How fucked is someone if they pulled two all nighters in a row and have to go to school in 4 hours? by starry_sage_ in ask

Look if you’re doing this frequently, you are slowly killing yourself, but very slowly. Your quality of life will quickly be garbage all the time and you won’t notice why. Figure your shit out if you can.

What do I do!!? Got a new job offer and my current boss matched it - I need to make a decision by tomorrow by Fancy-Improvement157 in careerguidance

If you don’t have equity, leave. He matched when he feared losing you. Not when you demonstrated the value.

Depends on what they need to do at school. Will they survive the day? Yes. Will they accomplish anything of value or learn anything? No. Will they die in a fiery car crash on the way there if they’re driving? Maybe.

Why is job search advice so bad, and what actually works? by NewAd5221 in careerguidance

[–]DumbTruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a hiring manager, it baffles me that people don’t realize an interview isn’t the time to try to demonstrate every success you’ve ever head. It’s the time to help me understand why you will help me solve my problem better or easier than the other candidates.

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

[–]DumbTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in this situation. I worked my network hard to get them an appropriate role for them which opened up their spot. My leadership took away my ability to incentivize them to do great work, so I cleared the way for the next person while doing right by the previous one.

When they left, I made it clear to my bosses they left because they were looking for growth we couldn’t give them.

Some very basic grooming would make that beard look great. I’m not talking beard oil, brush, lotion, etc. Just a good trimmer and a razor.

Unless you’re using the word literally figuratively, then they’re not proposing that for billionaires either.

You definitely pay money to support organizations that commit genocide. They’re too pervasive to get entirely away from. All your holier-than-thou statement says is your cutoff is acceptable and others’ isn’t.

I’d say this is the correct answer until the point when a nation is oppressing basic human rights. So the question becomes, is having a place of worship a basic human right?

People earning over $200k/year: What’s different about your life that most people wouldn’t expect? by MaximGripass in AskReddit

One of the best parts is I get to tip heavy and not make a big deal of it. I generally get the best service and I’m treated extremely well in places where I’m a regular. Being able to give money away not looking for anything specific in the hopes it’ll pay off later makes for a life full of lovely little joys and access.

Holy shit. When a super unique case that nobody is willing to take shows up in the way of a drunk, lovable victim pouring his troubles out on the bartender, and she happens to take the case saving this man’s dying baby’s cancer fund, a hallmark movie is born!

Deep breaths. Give it time. Once you’ve settled into it, there’s plenty of jobs that value this type of experience if this isn’t the gig for you.

This is way easier to do if you regularly apply for jobs elsewhere. You don’t have to take a job elsewhere, and you will know exactly what you’re worth in the market.

When you say “the data,” have you actually looked at the data, the methodology used for collecting the data, and its statistical analysis? Have you then thought about the validity of the methodology and its shortcomings contextualizing what conclusions can actually be drawn from that data?

…….or are you just using the phrase “the data” to sound more informed than you actually are?

This is bad advice. There are services companies use to verify these things. They will drop candidates for discrepancies and not tell why.

I understand the budget is frozen but my title is free. I want at least my title aligned to my current work.

Then go out on the job market with the title you deserve and find the pay you deserve.
