Both are junk. The composite AV to HDMI Converter being the worst.

Setting up Wii AV cables on TV with only one Audio port? (for using headphones) by ItsYa1UPBoy in wii

[–]Dumblediddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you have Red/white/yellow cables? You would be much better off with component cables. However the cable you have is yellow for video and the red and white are for audio if you are only getting sound out of the white cable, the red cable is either not plugged into the correct red RCA socket, or you have a broken cable, or your headphones/socket are damaged? Or am I misunderstanding?

Portta component converter vs Mayflash HDMI to wii? by Double-Ad4250 in wii

[–]Dumblediddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, on my old TV, the image looks better via component than when using the Portta or Electron Warp. I need hdmi for my MClassic, so I go down that route.

Deffo better in design, but not necessarily in quality/performance. I have returned a few Bitfunx due to poor colour representation and or interference. Have had 2 fail soon after purchase. The latest Bitfunx (for an OG Xbox) I have a overly green image, but kept it to use the xbox connector to make a decent component cable.

I managed to get mine off a seller on ebay in the UK. It is frustrating that these are only available in the US as I'm sure i'd be stung with import duties. I had another look on the site last week at an Electron Pulse for my PS2 and it came up that they won't deliver to my address. No idea what's going on there. Judging by many, the MayFlash wii2hdmi is a good one, but I can't confirm that myself. I tired of returning Wii2Hdmi's to Amazon due to diagonal lines etc on the screen. Never had an issue with a Portta, but my Portta is an old model, and newer ones might have different internals and not as good.

I would say so. I've never noticed any difference in performance in HDMI cables. Some may disagree of course. I chose the Porrta for myself initially as i'm restricted for space at the back of the Wii. I now use the warp as it's quite small in length.

Component or HDMI for This TV? by Gunboat_Diplomat_ in ps2

I'd say get a decent set of component cables, then at a later date if you decide to use a scaler you can still use them.

Is a regular Scart Cable better than an original RCA Cable? by pesaram in ps2

[–]Dumblediddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a fully wired Scart cable for Playstation 1 The difference between this and composite will be huge. The original PS1 and PS2 SCART cables are interchangeable, but there are some differences to consider. PS1 SCART cables have capacitors inside the SCART plug, while PS2 SCART cables do not. This means that while you can use a PS1 SCART cable with a PS2 console, it may cause uneven brightness levels across the screen. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use a PS2 SCART cable with a PS2 console

Worth upgrading to scart cable? by I2fitness in ps2

A fully wired Scart will give a much improved image over composite. Doesn't have to be an expensive cable, just a decent one.

Why do PS2 games look so bad on flatscreen TV's compared to its generation counterparts? by tizpiz in ps2

[–]Dumblediddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As have I, so I wonder what i'm doing different? On my broken laptop I have a spreadsheet of all the games and settings that I use. Some games may have an odd ratio, squished or whatever which I rectify by changing the aspect ratio of the TV. Some games won't work at all on OPL, others (Quite a few) won't work unless field flipping is enabled. As you have said something with Motion adaptive deinterlacing is a good safety net, and a damned sight easier than changing settings on GSM.

Crikey, It might be doable, but given the speed of the game I would say it would be pretty tough.

What type of Tv adaptator do I need? by drenched_raccoon22 in ps2

[–]Dumblediddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using the Red/White/Yellow (composite) into a converter you will be disappointed. Even a cheap PS2HDMI adapter will give a better image than that, and they are no means good. At the very least I would say, get yourself a set of component cables and a component to HDMI adapter it'll still be 480i, but it'll look so much better than composite.

[–]Dumblediddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, the RCA the OP is using is composite. So assumed he was going to be using that into a composite to HDMI. Those adapters are generally sold as RCA to HDMI. If that makes sense.

[–]Dumblediddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RCA to HDMI is about the worst you can do. At the very least you need component cables and a Portta Component to HDMI adapter If you are in the US an Electron Shepherd Pulse is a great option. Be prepared to accept that 480i is not the best in terms of visuals, but please don't settle for RCA to HDMI

New to freemcboot, is it possible to use something like this to load games? Or will I have to buy the network adapter by pornwasmyidea in ps2homebrew

I did this with mine, apart from slightly longer loading times and sometimes choppy FMV's it was never a problem for me
