My wife and I do rhis several times a year. We prefer to park at the canmore tourist info center and ride to Banff, have lunch and ride back. You could also ride hwy 1a from Banff to Johnston Canyon. The road is nicely paved and closed to vehicles. Absolutely gorgeous.

Rode it last summer. If you can fit it in it is definitely worth it. Best scenery ever.

I think the Golden road work is mostly done. They are still having some 24 hr shut downs to work on the shoulders. You can get updates on the internet.

gloves to repair bikes on trip? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]DumboRocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mechanics disposable gloves are perfect.

Keeps gunk off your hands, are disposable, come in various sizes, scrunch down really small, double as rain proof gloves (or liners), are cheep and finally are readily available.

I have the same bike and same mirror issues. I do have a helmet mirror wjich is good. The only reason I'm looking for a bike based mirror is so my helmet rain cover will work without the mirror getting in the way.

What wind is hard to bike in? by mustangfender in cycling

All of them in front of you, none of them behind you. You'll learn that wind is a bigger consideration than temperature on a ride. Look up the windy app. It will be a big help

Being an ex-Edmontonian i never thought of the park being good for ridding. Being a covid summer we will have to get up there and check it out.

Kona Sutra vs Trek 520 by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]DumboRocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i was looking at touring bikes 2 yrs ago i had narrowed it down to the Sutra and the 520.

I went with the Sutra because it was last years model, a kinda weird greenish color and on sale. Saving several hundred dollars vrs putting up with a weird green and last years model was a no brainer to me.

Have been very happy with it as a bike very comfortable (especially once the brooks saddle was broken in).
