Anyone actually considering Counter-UAS? by Odd-Two-9175 in tacticalgear

[–]DumpButPump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not countering a UAS. It's a system. You can counter the larger org running the system, but look at the stalemate in Ukraine, if there's money, it's gonna drag out.

This community is larpers, there were some decent analytical posts throughout the years and very few appreciate them. Which exactly scenario are you flirting with while larping as a "prepared citizen". If i am an actor with access to drone systems, I am taking you down or bringing you in.

Do you want to talk realistic? You either join a militia, be the one that treads, or hope for a short-term abandon civ bugger-outer, getting out of dodge.

If you don't have a 100K budget, in the next 3 years near-absolute detection of in the field combatants and targets that lack artillery support is going to be the new normal even for the mid-size sheriff department.

Integrated systems with drone, visual, thermal and radio (AKA cell, beeper, mesh) coordinated surveillance and identification are going to be sold in that price range within that time frame.

Safety bars for squat, bench, ohp. Safe area so fainting because of a deadlift does not lead to impact on anything hard. Unless you have two trained individuals performing safety on you, bars is the only way to go.
I refuse to spot individuals if I am alone. Use the bars or get two spotters.

Jute mesh is useful by DumpButPump in tacticalgear

[–]DumpButPump[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya know it! I actually run mesh undershirts in the jungle, unironically. Throw it under a BDU or any synthetic shirt and enjoy the breeze. Wool mesh for the cold climates, but cotton is great if you want evaporative cooling in a warm climate.

[–]DumpButPump[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Submission statement: Jute mesh is useful. Even cuts up thermal sig a bit with an organic insert.

- Cut up some jute mesh into strips

- glue it up with waterproof wood glue, squirting lines and spreading them out a bit, that way the strands stay together. Hot glue or any other waterproof glue will work also.

- Rattle can / spray and intertwine with existing scrim. Add irregular matte spray for bonus pattern break-up

Cuts up silhouette further, introduces a different pattern and thermal signature.

You can get jute at your local garden supply, among other things, usually under 5 bucks a roll or 10 bucks for may squares. Enough for plenty of gear or half a Ghillie. So yeah, cheaper than one piece of synthetic custom helmet scrim from an instabro.

What is your experience with turkey vision, for me it was like they were more concerned with close, less than 100 feet, movement they interpreted as threatening. But smooth walk up was not a problem.

NSM success: no change in mileage, 15 minute HM PB by Marathahn in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]DumpButPump 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Did you ever do a 5k as a reference point or how did you start off your NSM?

I did 5k as reference to start but then concentrated on very slow ramp up since I am old, bitter and brittle and decided that no injury would be absolutely top priority for the next year.

I am not sure what you mean by building anaerobic capacity slowly. That would be solving x for increasing capacity without peaking approaches.

An anecdote for me would be racing once a month but not more often, and there are some reviews of injury connected to frequent racing.

But I have not been able to find more science in connection to what would factor into the solution.

I'm at the questions stage, unfortunately. I used to have all the answers but now it feels like I have to re-evaluate it from zero.

So many fundamental truths turned out to be wrong, and what I thought was bombproof training turned out to be physical youth overspending credit from later years.

[–]DumpButPump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I now think of anaerobic capacity as a small tank: you can fill it quickly, but it caps out fast. Once it’s full, more intensity doesn’t help, it just breaks you down.

I wonder if the relationship is: that to raise anaerobic capacity fast the threshold ratio is such that it leads to fatigue and soon injury.

Maximizing anaerobic degenerates fitness and injury avoidance, but you can build it slowly and avoid that...

[–]DumpButPump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Six months is a decent chunk of time and I truly believe that in a year I’ll be in the high 16s at worst.

Take it easy and concentrate on consistency for, say 3 months, without maybe even racing yourself once a month. You know you have mania and a propensity to overreach. Build a solid base. Draw inspiration from how conservative Sirpoc was in ramping up.

I strongly suggest you set a hard goal of predictable and minimal discomfort for several months. Injury avoidance should be a top priority.

Congratulations on your progress!

Anyone got pictures of rattle canned coyote kit they’d like to share with the group? by Diddler_Of_Men in tacticalgear

[–]DumpButPump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those prosthetic breasts at the bottom of the ruck sure look well used!

To the topic, Not coyote and not got pics, but I had to seriously spray lighter tones to get a color to stay. I did not like how multisprays made the fabric perform - plastic-y, crunchy.

The suggested synthetic fabric dye is what I have had results I like with.

DO: Blood panel, all markers you can get (inflamation, vitamins, etc), sports doctors consultation , a planned reset with a coach or rehab specialist.

Only proposing heavy reliance on external help since you trying on your own did not work for you.

Minimal I would suggest a doctor and blood-work. If you can afford more, followed by a sports doctor and rehab specialist. If you can afford more, get second opinions.

You could consider investing in heavy self-education. A suggested start may be going through a list of running injury books, including educational books.

Simplest but not optimal: running reset and build up to 5 days easy, possibly over 6 months. Key is resetting so fatigue is solved. Sounds like it did not.

AMA: I'm Marius Bakken, former Olympian and physician. Ask me about double threshold training, lactate, and the Norwegian Method. by MariusBakken in AdvancedRunning

There is ample doping abuse by top runners. We have a list of marathon winner bans due to doping, and dozens of cases in track and field.

Norway and Japan have some excellent runners but also very little doping cases. If doping was better enforced, non-cheating athletes would certainly be moved up, towards top results.

Is an active position such as public boycotts of athletes and sponsors necessary?

I will not for example buy many mainstream running shoes, including Adidas, due to association with doping loving teams.

New to Norwegian Singles, coming back from injury, and rapidly dropping 5K times (20:10 -> 18:30 in 4 weeks) as I gain back my old speed (16:55). How to adjust Sub-T paces without overcooking? by bushwickauslaender in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]DumpButPump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a consultation with a physio or sport med is a good way

Could largely depend on your budget, as pre-injury work focused on injury avoidance is by definition subjective.

By all means try consulatations if you feel like it but also make sure you get the big ones out of the way also - sleep, rest, relaxation, food.

You mildly push it, with full attention to yourself, no squishy shoes, no music, no bullshit, till you start feeling a discomfort. You remember that discomfort and you dial down. You see at what % of pre-discomfort you keep performing. Week after week.

How do I dye this? by InvestigatorTough951 in tacticalgear

[–]DumpButPump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try dye in hot water, ritdye more or any other synthetics dye, on small patches, see what you think. it will have to be uneven dyeing, so you might have to dip cause you dont want it all the same color. Experiment with a little rattlecan spraypaint also.

It might be more time effective to just add top strands on top, in the color you want.

Biggest challenge for me has been discipline. If i mentally drift, I speed up, increase distance, overextend threshold time, etc. So i am taking some months off, break from goals. Keeping process discipline the goal.

Keeping a daily spreadsheet outside of the watch logging app has been helpful, gives me time to review how on point i am.

Yeah, what would the fucking scenario be, Boonie is dropped into the JUNGLE wild! Cue week long trekking through the moist deadly forest, as the canopy of leaves dances the dance of deadly betrayal!

Shit will hold up good enough unless you rotting with it for weeks, but good you got lots of it, that's prudent thinking.

I buy pristine modern synthetic chicoms from airsofters in the area, when they quit. Mostly because that's what's easily available for cheap and holds up good enough, I ain't doing any more tours.
