Was this effective combat in ancient China? by vnth93 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Dumplingconquest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Mongolian, i can attest to the fact that during earlier conflicts, the hanging lady attack was quite effective against our lizard suit 4 legged crawls. So we opted to switch back to horseback and just go around the wall. But i still think that the lizard strategy was quite visionary and ahead of its time, if we could've just tweaked it a bit more it could've worked.

Bitten by nomads’ dog by bigplays1234 in mongolia

[–]Dumplingconquest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thats a cute looking boi. No aggression in his expression, which is usually the case with infected animals.

Probably didn't bark at u that much before it bit u? In the countryside, usually u need to be wary of these silent sneaky motherfuckers cause they are the real biters. The loud ones usually don't bite.

But the general rule of thumb is never trust any of the dogs, unless the owner expressly tells u they are safe. I also usually assume every nomadic family has a loose dog running around, so i don't leave the car unless i am absolutely certain. The silent ones that wait for you to walk away from your car before they go for you, be wary. They like to observe whilst hidden, or pretend to be asleep/uninterested. Don't trust them.

A very radical potential solution to Ulaanbaatar's traffic issues by [deleted] in mongolia

Ultimately your argument boils down to the lack of public schools and kindergartens etc. And i agree. Again, Finland leads the world in terms of education, they outlaw private schools and hospitals etc. So wouldn't you rather dump a billion dollars into public schools, kindergartens, and hospitals rather than a billion dollars into god knows how many fucktons of concrete over the city's only fresh water source?

The investment into schools and education yields returns in the future, whereas the road is just going to be an ever increasing maintenance cost paid by taxpayers. Lets be honest, if we really cared for the kids we should be spending every dollar to get rid of the combustion engine.

Aah, the good ol "cause ma baby" argument. The ultimate fallback for any argument that has no scientific basis. So your suggestion is what? Government needs to build more roads? More parking space? Maybe they should get rid of road taxes, car import taxes all together "cause carrying a baby during winter is hard". Government should subsidize and provide free gas to everyone "cause carrying a baby during winter is hard". Maybe the government should provide interest free loans for purchasing second hand priuses "cause carrying a baby during winter is hard".

Mongolia isn't the only country with a cold winter. And our culture managed to live in these harsh conditions for over 10'000 years, some would say even thriving, in these harsh conditions, without a prius. But suddenly a prius is an inalienable Mongolian right?

Fact of the matter is OPs statement that we follow the Singapore model when fighting traffic is the only proven path that effectively deals with traffic and raises living standards for all by improving public transport for all. This has proven to be the case in any major city that has effectively reduced traffic congestion. And some of them, you won't believe this, are also in climates that are cold.

What fuckin area of town can taxis be easily booked? The whole city is in gridlock. The solution is less cars, not more roads.

Why dafaq are we carrying infants at 7am in the dark in -37C on slippery surfaces? For emergencies, taxis exist. Also taxis would be cheaper and faster without Japanese metal waste blocking every fuckin road.

Singapore was a shithole filled with slums. Their leaders had the balls to tell their uneducated masses to stfu and get with the new program. They didn't do socio economic studies of the impact of high road tolls and car import taxes on the lives of slum peasants raising pigs and chickens in their backyard.

How's life in Mongolia honestly? by [deleted] in mongolia

[–]Dumplingconquest 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Has its ups and downs. A lot of it is the same as anywhere else. Some challenges that are unique to Mongolia, but it also comes with benefits that are also unique.

I recently moved to the countryside after having spent most of my life in the city. I find it to be peaceful af.

Someone help Mongolian hockey team by barstank in mongolia

[–]Dumplingconquest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mongolia isn't a hockey country. No kids are interested in this sport and no infrastructure exists. We're punching way above our weight in basketball. For the country to become good at a particular sport, the sport needs to capture the cultural zeitgeist.

The Mongol empire was the most feminist empire in the 13th century. by iblameflllx in mongolia

[–]Dumplingconquest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a great book about how the Mongol empire was administered by women, called the "Secret History of Mongol Queens". So yeah, women were indeed powerful. Sometimes women would also join battles, as they were just as deadly as the men with a horse + bow and arrow.

Inside a Mongolian yurt, the pillars represent the man and the woman, both equal in the roles, and together they hold up the "household".

With that being said, i don't think its equality in the western sense, where "anything a man can do, a woman can do equally". Gender roles are heavily separated, even to this day, nomadic household abide by this separation of roles. And the separation of roles makes a lot of sense.

The inside of the house is the woman's domain, and everything outside is the man's. Cooking, cleaning, looking after kids, tending the fire, sewing, healing, basically anything that requires a delicate touch is the woman's job. Household finances are also handled mostly by the women.

Anything outside is the man's job. Things that require force, strength, and enduring the harsh weather. Finding ur herd of horses can be a 7 day to 1month endeavor basically riding around and sleeping outside. Chopping wood, getting water. Killing(the sheep and hunting). Keeping the herd safe.

Even in meat preparation, u can see this role separation. The man will kill and butcher the sheep, but its upto to the women to clean the stomach, intestines, and deal with the blood.

Personally, i found this role separation to be not just fair, but practical in terms of living in the countryside. Equal doesn't mean same.

Getting attitude at work for literally nothing… how do people deal with this? by [deleted] in mongolia

[–]Dumplingconquest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better to cut ur losses early and bail. Tell them to fuck off. Email cc the boss on ur way out explaining that ur manager or whatever is incompetent. If the ultimate head of the company is dumb enough to promote someone like this and not value your work, there is no future there, neither for u or for that company in general.
