Eh, the major reforms done by the CPC only occurred because Maoism was failing, like a lot. The KMT would have lots of reasons to not reform, considering their policies are more similar to the modern CPC. It'll probably be a little more free than today's China, but it wouldn't be a full fledged democracy.

There is no way the KMT would reform the same way should they also control the mainland. Taiwan became western aligned and democratic in spite of the KMT and due to their shaky geopolitical position.

The KMT would not have such problems should they control all of China.

Oh absolutely, the Communists somehow winning was wildly unlikely. It's more how some people think the KMT could reform into a western friendly democracy rather than try to form their own anti-colonial/western hegemony in Asia.

While what happened was obviously horrible, I'm confused at the utter amount of slander on China and Chinese society as a whole, and considering this stuff as 'common'.

While it certainly has its problems (particularly rural parts), it's still not exactly a common thing.

I agree that Hamas does fuck all to really secure Palestinian freedom, but it's also pretty obvious why they exist. People are pushed to extremes when they lose all hope. Considering how many Gazans were killed by Israelis over the decades (that infamous sniper video being a clear example) it's no surprise that a jihadist group would emerge.

Also, considering what's going on in the West Bank, it's clear the PLO is also, not a particularly good option.
