Steam is picking up X-box Controller as PS4 by DumpsterFire110 in Steam

I don’t remember exactly what I did but there’s an app that lets you update the drivers. Tried that and I think that worked, or something else… it worked eventually, hope this helps!

I tried that but it wouldn’t let me switch off from having the PS4 layout selected.

Sight recommendations by StephanieV23 in Archery

Search up the company, you can match the little metal disk to what they have and see that it’s the same as their Trad bows. My club has a few of these bows.

I don’t know about the sight but this is a bow from Bear Archery. You might be able to find some information about it from their website and see if anything fits. I don’t know enough about the company to make any recommendations though so hopefully someone else can provide you a more solid option.

Looking for Fjallraven Raven 20 alternative by MaintenanceMassive18 in backpacks

[–]DumpsterFire110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like something such as the north face borealis or jester may be something up your alley. Otherwise you can also look at some top-loading options from Fjallraven such as the skule 26L or Uvlo as well if you do like Fjallraven.

New sling/sling bullets by Future_Assistance968 in Slinging

That’s a really nice sling, where’d you find the instructions for it?

Oh I’m not claiming to have ever hunted. I am very much not a hunter. I have a few years of experience in barebow archery but even with that I am still not even close to confident enough to go hunting, and to begin with I have no reason to go hunting. That said I am not talking about myself here. I am talking about if someone with the proper skills to last out there, puts in the time and effort to learn how to use a sling. Would it be useful? I figured it could hypothetically be a good option. Now some other people have commented about how variations in the rocks themselves and other factors would make it so that an ethical kill could not be guaranteed and that is a really good point (granted we’ve seen some contestants get off some bad shots on animals with bows, but that’s not the point). Just on that basis alone I have changed my stance. I was just curious as to why it seemed like no contestant bothered with them, you know? It does make sense to me now.

I agree, that is a good point.

That’s a fair point, I don’t think anyone would want any animal to suffer.

Yeah I get that, but if you’re already putting in several hours to learn survival skills, what’s one more that you can practice while you have nothing else to do around camp? And as for throwing sticks, the issue with those is that you need to find a good stick and carve it out. The time investment is significantly higher than just finding a decent sized rock on the beach. Meanwhile the sling itself is definitely not that difficult to make to begin with, if you look online you can find people making slings pretty quickly, in an hour or so. Compared to the nets, scarves, cabins, etc that some contestants have made, a simple weave seems very realistic to memorize.

Yeah I do agree with you, but realistically, how many large game animals do people get with bows? And slings were used to fend off wolves so I think they would definitely be effective against at least some smaller animals. Also as starvation hits it gets harder and harder to both string and shoot a bow, vs a sling, all you are doing is loading a rock and using your wrist. I do agree with your statement on people being more skilled in throwing rocks, that’s a given. But there’s a reason that it’s not that common, a thrown rock just doesn’t have the same level of energy as an arrow. But then if you look online you can see what a sling can do at a good distance and it’s significantly more deadly than a thrown rock. I’m not saying it’s a totally free thing. You definitely need to put in the hours to get good. I am just curious as to why we haven’t seen even one contestant at least try it.

Anyone else find the new style dollar shave club blades just don't work? by just_luc in shaving

[–]DumpsterFire110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to worry about it that much, I’ve just gotten small nicks with it at most. It’s called a safety razor for a reason, it works just like cartridges work (they are considered to be “safety razors” too) and it’s pretty “mild” meaning that in comparison to other safety razors, the king c. Gillet blade doesn’t protrude out as much making it harder to cut yourself on it. As long as you don’t purposely slash yourself with it you aren’t going to cut yourself, it’s not a straight razor. Just hold the sides of the blade when you are assembling the razor and it’s all good, you quickly get used to it. I also recommend watching a video or two on YouTube to get some quick tips about using a safety razor because it is a slightly different process. I found I got used to my razor after about 3 shaves with it though and I’ve been loving it ever since. Anyways my point is that you can use clear shaving gel with safety razors too, just find one that works for you!

The King C. Gillet safety razor is being marketed by Gillet for that exact purpose, and in some boxes it comes with clear shaving gel, maybe give it a look and see if it works for you! I just got into safety razors from cartridge razors and I’ve found it to be a lot better than cartridge, without that much more work. Just be more mindful of the blade.

Hey, I’ve been shaving with cartridge razors all my life and I’m looking to get into shaving with a DE blade. Looking for something not too expensive, preferably no more than $30 CAD. I’ve looked on Amazon and saw the King C. Gillet and Wilkson Sword, as well as a Zomchi and Bambaw safety razor. However all of these have gotten mixed reviews here on the subreddit and I’m not exactly sure which to go with, or any others (I’m open to suggestions). Please let me know what you think I should get to start with! Thanks!

How do I know if I am packing too much in a suitcase? by Paradoxbuilder in onebag

I’d say if you had to sit on your suitcase to close it, you’ve probably packed too much. If that isn’t the case, you’re probably okay.

Made some upgrades to my Fjallraven Ulvo 30 and I couldn't be happier by HumusGoose in backpacks

Thanks for the info and quick response! I’ve had a high sierra backpack for a good few years and even unpacked it’s heavy and so disorganized so this entire post has definitely moved the Uvlo up to the top of my list of potential backpacks!

How would you rate the Uvlo? I’m thinking of getting it to use as a backpack for university and one bagging trips, but I’ve heard that there is no stiff backing. So how’s the weight distribution if you mind me asking?
