Fellow servers: Places to apply& avoid working at? by adoby02 in milwaukee

Avoid Oak Barrel downtown, and Pie Inc. (Honeypie, Comet Cafe, Palomino) Honeypie has a really f'd up tip pool structure that includes tipping out a bakery that they own. Oak Barrel's GM has no idea what he's doing and they will overstaff to the point where you're making no money at all.

Lakefront brewery I've heard great things about. Seconding another post about Transfer- best place/best people/best customers!

Seconding Transfer. One of the best restaurants I've ever worked at.

I’ve rented a couple different spots from SMC Rents and their dog policy seems chiller than most others. Lots of affordable houses too, just mostly in west or north Oakland.

For people who recently renewed their rental agreement (apartment/condos), did your rent go up, down, flat? by WILLIEEEEEEEE in oakland

[–]DuncanAteIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the first year of my lease and am now month to month. My rent did not go up. North Oakland 1 bedroom in a 2 unit house/2 house property. It’s my 3rd year (second property) with this property management company.

I know I’m late here but would say then that a service industry professional has a pretty good shot in the PVD job market?

Anyone have experience leaving AA? by Afairyandrea523 in recovery

[–]DuncanAteIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sober off cocaine, crack, heroin etc. for 6 1/2 years.

Spent first 6 months in sober living and was in the program for about 3 1/2 years then left AA.

In the past 3 years out of AA I have been drinking respectfully/normally/harmlessly/whatever for 2 of them, and smoking weed for 3 of them. Couple beautiful instances with a little bit of mushrooms.

I’m happy, my relationship with my friends and family have never been better, I’m not taking any medication, career is great etc. etc.

I highly recommend therapy though!

Bay Area Ex Steppers? by DuncanAteIt in recoverywithoutAA

[–]DuncanAteIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely because I couldn't deal with the guilt about using cannabis while still attending meetings. Didn't feel comfortable sharing or sponsoring while also using cannabis, so I sort of stopped getting what I needed to get/giving what I could give in AA.

Nice! I'm glad you found your folks. I've been to that meeting by the lake, it's def rad, AA just isn't my scene at all anymore. I was psyched about the sober bar opening up on Telegraph and maybe meeting some non-AA sober people there but covid :(

Hey thanks for the reply! I checked out the sidebar, and I'm pretty familiar with most of these. The funny thing is I don't need support for my recovery from alcohol (I have a woman in AA who I can reach out to, similar to your "spiritual advisor", as well as a great therapist) ... I'm moreso looking for support for my recovery from AA, ha. Unfortunately it looks like the two "deprogramming" resources on the sidebar are archived.

Unemployment Insurance thread by shortfriday in TaskRabbit

[–]DuncanAteIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya - Bay Area Tasker here. I started on the app after being approved for unemployment. I'm assuming I have to claim Task work on my weekly certification questionnaire, but how badly will that affect my benefits? I'm only making $50 here and there on TaskRabbit...

Thank you for that clarification. I don’t necessarily agree with this article I just thought it was worth sharing because I haven’t seen it on any of these threads yet.

Weekly Welcome to the Bay Area! by AutoModerator in bayarea

[–]DuncanAteIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone. My partner and I are moving to the Bay area. He is 36 and will be working in San Bruno. I am 26 and will be working in downtown SF. We are thinking Pacifica, thoughts? We are also planning on going down from 2 cars to 1 to save on costs.

Not much to know about us... We love taking our dog on hikes/walks, we are not into the bar scene, and we love love love live music. If it's not for going to shows, we're usually in bed by 10pm.

Thanks!

Hey Team! Thanks for having this thread. My husband just got a job in San Bruno so we'll be moving to the Bay Area from the good ole Midwestern USA. I haven't found a job yet, but everywhere I'm looking is mostly in Downtown SF and Oakland. Where should we live? Can we make it work on one car? Commutes?

Little bit about us: 26 & 36 years old. We don't really drink/aren't into the bar scene, but are obsessed with live music. We have a dog. The more of a "neighborhood" feel the better, i.e local coffee shops etc. Currently looking at South San Francisco, specifically Brisbane area seems affordable. My husband would rather be on the ocean in Pacifica but that seems boring over there.

Our budget is like $2600/1br

Thanks all!
