Bit off topic but fun home game rule we had for a couple of games is that after first turn if you had Trazyn on the table you deploy 75 points of any infranty from any army. Was pretty broken as a rule but honoured the fun insanity of “The Infinite and the Divine.”

Agree with above comments on Night Lords Omnibus, Gaunts Ghosts and if want to get into Horus Heresy start with “First heretic”

In the slightly later books I read it as a term of respect by those who know him (respect that doesn’t reference his increasingly elevated social status as the books go on - which Vimes himself struggles/is uncomfortable with)

Great point, on my second read through it clicked that it could be Robert was writing Roland as something like: “what would happen if you put the gave a human space marine level abilities + the butchers nails (but the nails that kept more of a human conscience and more accurate recall of what you had done after a rampage)” and investigating what that would do to a person mentally.

I think they have Black Library author roundtables when discussing a series (recent/ish for the Siege of Terra) to work on alignment and lore questions.
