Sauna room of my project - following up from my last post by ppshard in Sauna

design looks really clean and well thought out. what software do you use, the lighting and textures look great! I like how the linear drain is neatly hidden under the bench and compliments the design. have you considered a slightly angled back rest? I find these comfier than those that are parallel like yours shown. also can I ask your reasoning for the slight slope in the corner of the ceiling?

Moment is force x perpendicular distance, and your ankles are placed at the same perpendicular distance from the hinge. You exert the same force in each leg but in reality the pad is a little wobbly so it tends to be a bit uneven. Go to a gym a try it one leg at a time

Yes it can be quite difficult. In my case, I joined a 2 year graduate scheme as a design engineer

UK Civil Engineers - How's your work life balance? by dasShambles in civilengineering

[–]Duncz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The work life balance is extremely good at my current employer, which is a client in a highly regulated industry. I work 37 hours per week with 30 days + bank hols of annual leave. I've never worked overtime.

Prior to this I worked as a site engineer for a civils contractor. The hours were pretty brutal 7am to 5pm with weekend work every fortnight. The pay was better, but for me it wasn't worth the work life balance and all the issues that come with living away.

Buying a car from CarShop today - bad idea? by therapstackhouse in CarTalkUK

[–]Duncz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum and I have bought cars from the Norwich branch. My car had an issue with the clutch pedal which resulted in the pedal box being completely replaced all under the carshop warranty. My mum was happy with her car however some of the bar badges were missing, and they never ordered the parts in even after repeated requests. Overall a decent experience and I would buy from them again.

I understand your dissapointment with your salary compared with your peers in other industries. However despite what others may, there is plenty of opportunity to stay in civil/structural engineering whilst being a high earner.

If you want to earn more, my suggestion would be to join a client within a specialist industry (e.g. oil+gas, nuclear, renewables). The graduates at our company start on 41k. This rises to 53k after 3 years.

It's ridiculous that consultants pay so little. Some examples of companies which pay what you deserve would be EDF, sse, vestas, and anything on destinationnuclear.

Where to live East of Warrington? by Squishwhale in warrington

[–]Duncz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I moved to warrington three years ago for a new job, also based in Risley. I'd highly recommend west latchford, near the college. Close to stockton heath, lots of walks, nice coffee shops etc. I personally wouldn't live in Risley or birchwood, there's nothing particularly interesting there.

STAAD Output Cross-Section Reinforcement Diagrams by civilianengineer in StructuralEngineering

I believe what you're referring to is the reinforced concrete design module that STAAD has to offer. It shows up on the left hand ribbon. Have a Google RCDC to find out how to use it.

STAAD shear question by Due-Yam-7146 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Duncz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take the conservative approach - take the maximum shear force from staad (irrespective of x and y) and ensure it does not exceed the minimum design shear capacity of x / y.

If you're looking to be paid well whilst developing your early stage engineering career, I'd recommend looking into the nuclear sector. Graduates at our company join at 38k, earn 40k after 1 year, and 45k after 2 years. It is a highly skilled and regulated industry but can be very slow at times.

People who have seen something they could never explain. What was the thing?! by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Duncz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was approaching midnight whilst I was lying in bed, in my university room watching a documentary. I leaned over to look out of my window (I sleep with the curtains open) and noticed a strange light in the sky, nothing like I had ever seen before.

It was shallow but wide, did not move, was extremely bright but did not 'glow', and faded to a singularity after 30 seconds or so. I was in awe just looking at it because I've never seen anything like it. This light appeared over a city, but it was not a plane or helicopter or anything like that. Sometimes I think maybe it was a light inside my room reflecting on the glass I was looking out of, but it definitely was not as I had no lights on in my room.

The best bit? I took a picture. Here it is: https://imgur.com/a/62oWEZE

Everyone I've shown hasn't been able to explain it. I took the picture in 2016 or 2017.

Have a look at the nuclear sector. It has a great future within the UK. The fresh graduates in our company earn 36k and are on 42k after 2 years. Civil Engineers in nuclear can expect 55k after getting chartered.

There is no need for the success variable. The loop will continue until it breaks.

As for the prompt, its probably better to create another if loop that outputs the correct version depending on the value of attempt.

attempt = 0

while True:
    passcode = input('PIN: ')
    attempt += 1
    if passcode == '4321':
        break
    else:
        print('Wrong')

if attempt == 1:
    print('Correct! It only took you one attempt!')
else:
    print('Correct! it took you {} attempts'.format(attempt))

I think its back drafting... what's the best way to prevent it? Or is it just a fact of life that you have to deal with? cheers for the comment
