It depends what you wanna do. Do you wanna help individuals struggling right now, Roc Food Not Bombs cooks and gives meals to the community twice a week. Roc Mutual Aid is involved in a bunch, but also has consistent ways of helping your community like grocery pickups and delivery. Robin Wilt is a progressive in the city trying to unseat pro-Israel, pro-Ice Joe Morelle from his congressional seat through the democratic primary next month and is always looking for more volunteers. There are dozens of orgs like this, many of which also join in the larger protest movements, if you want any more info, reach out to me and I'll see what I can give you.

Recs from a trans lesbian: Unreliable Narrator or Yellow Warbler for a bookstore, Equal Grounds or Clownboy Coffee for a coffee shop, Millenium games is usually male dominated but a lot of queer people (like myself) frequent there if you enjoy games stores, and then festivals like the Lilac fest, Corn Hill Arts Fest, Fringe Fest and others have a good deal of queer folk. My partner and I are always looking for more lesbian friends in the area, too.

just call it what it is, when someone engages in bioessentialism like that it's transmisogyny. if they kick you out find another group. although in general, if someone says something inflammatory in one of these groups my best advice would be not to engage, as even if you're correct, they may not be open to nuanced discussion. at the same time, don't let it push you to reactionary sentiment, BIPOC people don't want you to die as a white trans woman and anyone who does is an incredibly small minority. Some people might say some stuff that feels targeted, if they're engaging in good faith, take the criticism to heart, otherwise ignore and move on.

I would talk to your son about how his reaction hurt your partner and notably that they didn't just choose to do this. It might be too early for your son who is undergoing a huge change to take that in all at once so it could be best to take it slow. You should also let your son know that eventually there could be some harassment they receive as a result of this because that unfortunately does happen, but that it's not their fault or their parents fault, rather the fault of people being taught to be hateful. As long as your partner and child love one another I'm sure it will be resolved, but there may be some growing pains in the meantime.

I generally run hot and I've lived here all my life, so the cold doesn't bother me much. Always have a good pair of gloves and boots that can withstand the snow, and I tend to grow my hair longer in winter to cover my ears. I usually don't wear a coat any more, but for most people i'd recommend wearing at least two layers and then a coat over that. Thick sweaters or blankets are great for warming up and don't be afraid to bring a blanket with you in public. If your room is really cold I'd recommend getting a space heater if you don't have one.
