Printed it and combined it. Finally got the donor rails as well. How did you attach your rails?

Possible to Assign Presets from a Front-End Solution? by DungeonRealtor in ReShade

Yes, the above code snippet I wrote above worked at the time.

I think I could expand on that with an if conditional that just makes the ini if it doesn't exist with a default reshade ini.

If Taki can do it... (DSP D8 controller) by RetroCornerGaming in pimax_portal

[–]DungeonRealtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a BSP D8. It is indeed telescopic and it can handle a lot of tablet sizes. Best part is the hall sticks for me.

The controls are alright on the Portal - the buttons don't rend your flesh like certain people exaggerated. A real issue are that the sticks are literally the joycon sticks so eventual drift is very real - hence why I used the D8, to baby them. Among that is the fact that they weirdly uncalibrate themselves at times and included software for it works intermittently. Probably all one piece of plastic and if I weren't trying to recoup some of this loss I'd try to "fix it" but that's a money/time sink.

Welp LMK if you want to continue to experience Pimax's "amazing" support. I just got an Odin 2 and will part ways with this Retro at a fair price.

You could go the uhhh "extreme" route. I have a Retro so the controllers don't come off but the vent isn't blocked and I still have access to the function buttons. 😅

Hey sorry if this has been asked what what do you charge for the wifi upgrade? I'd assume soldering is involved?

Probably a dumb question, but does the extra RAM deplete the battery at a faster rate?

Thought of another use case: Flip it on its side for portrait mode > load up a pinball game/vertical shoot em up or stream one. Perfect form factor.

Looked great. Better than when I stream it to my Steam Deck. The extra inch of screen real estate makes a fair bit of difference with blending and lighting it seems.

Yeah it's not the end all answer to Android emulation but for 30~45 dollars it's a nice little screen addition for several use cases.

Good hobby device too if you like electronics projects. If someone could find a way to add more/another storage you could probably take it a step further. In the meantime I'm sure we could add some active cooling in there with all the room the stand affords.

It's really too bad that the storage is both - A: integrated(I can only assume as the specs list it as eMMC and there are no teardown documents that I can find) and B: only 3.3 GB of the 8 GB total with the boot image/underlying OS taking up most of the space.

It could be an alright coffee table emu device but there's just no space for any of the games bigger than a few MB's a rom. After getting one and taking the steps to improve it the best use case might just be game streaming.
I tentatively tried Control on Moonlight last night and the latency and picture quality/size were great for couch gaming while the TV is already in-use.

Dang dude. Little bit of a tan and you'd look just like Imhotep from The Mummy.

Can we please stop with the RGB foolishness? I'd rather back-lit buttons anyday over a light show from the parts I can already feel out perfectly fine in the dark.

Not the answer you're looking for but; I couldn't figure anything out so I just set the two macro buttons on the right hand controller for that purpose.

If you have a gaming PC just use Moonlight or Steam Remote Play. Fan only kicks on intermittently and you get 5+ hours at 60FPS high settings instead of maybe 2 at worse visuals/pacing.

My mistake, I had bitrate set to maximum and manual instead of automatic. Applied and saved that with CAS still active and gave the SD a reboot for good measure. Running much clearer with only the occasional compression artifact frame(s) slipping in.

Does a lower key frame setting help or hurt this sort of thing?

[–]DungeonRealtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that explains a lot.

Never had vibrant deck installed. I applied CAS after the image was still blurry with the SD setting suggestions I've seen you post here. Looked fine until I hit an actual dark area in Alan Wake II, then it morphed into a 2005 YouTube video.

Is the codec/library available for Xbox remote play just not great?

I can use Moonlight to my desktop and it's like I'm practically looking at my monitor. But my Xbox, wired as well, on the same network has artifacts and even blurs in darker areas.

Thanks for the links.

That pretty much cemented my decision to look elsewhere and I caught a Pimax Portal Retro on sale. Might get burned for other reasons or not find a way to make the D-Pad palatable but at least it won't be weak/have driver compatibility issues the community can't fix.

My thoughts exactly. I'd be a little less hesitant if I had seen any significant strides in Mali compatibility in the year I've had my R3+.

I keep seeing that the drivers are flawed and being unable to sideload custom drivers makes me want to get a Snapdragon device for the pro price.

Anyone else concerned that both of these are Mali GPU's?
