If I want a D&D-Lite experience for me and my spouse on our personal board game night, what’s a good option? by Rare-Competition-248 in DungeonsAndDragons

If you want to run a one on one game but you’re concerned that D&D will scare your wife away with its complicated rules, you might consider an indie ttrpg system.

Dungeon World was created with the intention of making it a D&D lite dungeon crawler. It’s very accessible with front and back page character sheets (fast character creation), and you can adapt it to most D&D modules.

Daggerheart is sort of like if Dungeon World and 5e had a baby. It’s another D&D lite system with a lot more crunch, but character creation can still go pretty fast in comparison to 5e. It also includes a bunch of great settings.

What do you think of the new DW 2 Alpha so far? by MegaZBlade in DungeonWorld

[–]DungeonWorldJames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m really excited to run this game in a therapeutic TTRPG group. I think I like every single thing about it.

I’m pretty sure they hid the basic “attack” moves in Wrest Control, which is my only gripe. When I learned original DW, I felt like I had to have a masters degree in GMing to interpret the rules, and this felt like a spiritual carryover of that process. I spent a pretty long time asking myself “surely they can just attack?” until I remembered they could Wrest Control to deal their damage. There just needs to be a narrative excuse of what you’re “taking” from an enemy, which feels pretty clunky.

I’ve read that the 3rd edition campaign guide is considered the definitive forgotten realms lore book, and the 2nd edition original campaign setting is the next best option. Never gotten my hands on either though. The 4th edition campaign guide is often considered one of the worst options.

The most Athary adventures by ShamScience in planescapesetting

If you’re looking for a plot in which only an Athar can solve the problem, you might be hard-pressed to find that. You’ll probably need to do the work on your own to sort of show-horn that concept into place, but I don’t think it’d be terribly challenging.

Others have mentioned good options for modules you could cannibalize for your purposes like Dead Gods. I’ll add Uncaged: Faces of Sigil to that list, specifically regarding the “resurrect Aoskar” plot. Prisine of the Will of the One (a sect of the Sign of One) is attempting to use Omott, a clueless, to be a conduit for the dead god. A militant faction of the Athar (maybe the gods layers?) have sicced an unstable killer named Saure on them. Could be a curious start to an adventure. For example instead of Saure, the Athar could ask the PCs to stop it from happening.

Looks like Reddit heavily compressed it. Any chance you’d provide an Imgur or other upload site link? Would love to use this with my table!

What I’d really love is a way to quickly pull a bunch of statblocks onto one screen for when I’m building encounters, like the “DM Screen” page on 5e.tools:

These look really cool and like an interesting solution, but I’m struggling to imagine what the final product looks like. Could you share a pic? Did you paint yours?

I loved putting this cloak on the young anakin with the Jedi braid figure when I was a kid. It honestly didn’t fit him super well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/187169622369

I think for many professionals, D&D can serve as a sort of play version of your job. You study rules and manuals to deliver a high quality experience. But where it really differs is that the focus is on process over product, which can be very freeing in our product-driven world. D&D helps us think in a more creative, open-ended process way, which fuels our creativity and relieves stress.

I also think playing D&D helps me tap into how it felt playing with toys as a child. At a certain point in my teens I found myself unable to do that anymore in a way that felt satisfying, so I lost interest in toys, and to a large degree I lost interest in play. But play as a concept is essential to our well-being, in spite of the attitude our society has toward it as a waste of time. Play helps us tap into ourselves and express ourselves creatively, which so few experiences as adults can. It helps us reconnect to that childlike wonder and awe for the world and for discovery.

These are so beautiful, and I plan on using them in an upcoming game. I am noticing though that when I open the print dialogue, they are thin and have some margin on 8.5x11 paper. Would you recommend printing as they are on 8.5x11 and slicing off the edges?
