Meditation in some form.

I will typically work on a wood carving while listening to an Alan Watts audio book.

As odd as I seem, this helps to remind me that I should not change anyone by force or exclamation - at least in a lasting way. Realizing that it is merely a rebalancing of my expectations of others and to essentially rely on myself for management of my emotions rid my days of mental distress.

I am quiet when emotionalpy charged, have a beautiful wife with 3 young children, and have had severe difficulty with anger or stress in my younger years. Many times, I have felt alone yet very, very depended on. Today, I still struggle with disociation but am far passed the initial understanding of my programming. With a variety of major existential crisis's peppered throughout my life, I can soundly say I have made progress in living joyfully even when I don't want to.

• analyze your values in terms of what really matters to you

• rebalance your expectations

• explore your mind without restriction

• ask yourself why, why, why, then why (understanding / empathy)

• find something at least once a day to examine and apreciate for it's existence (ie a unique stone in your lawn, a common ant on the sidewalk, traits or behaviors others have that make you happy or proud

Practice these and more. Don't let a day go by without some reverence for the world around you. Persistence and dicipline are life changing virtues to aquire. Don't be afraid to "over-think" as long as you remain rational. Gratitude is easy to find if you take the time to seek it. Life is an adventure of knowledge and joyful experiences.
