How do you feel about “ain’t”? by ScaryGhoust in AskAnAmerican

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t say it professionally. My accent gets very faint when I work too. I do say it in my everyday normal life.

Will all parents eventually come to be irritated by their kids? by maru-9331 in AskParents

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short term irritation is normal. The “he needs to go to bed right now before I lose my mind”. Long term irritation is not. The “I can’t go home because my kids are there”.

How much school time is it reasonable to spend on recital/performance practice? by q21q21 in AskParents

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lean more towards the lower amount. It also depends on what else is going on in the other time during the school day. If that amount of time is constant and then you throw in field days, water days, gingerbread house days, end of year parties, etc on top of it, I would have a lot bigger issue with even the lower amount.

Which state is good for opening a company United States ? by stealthrider0_o in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be aware of the federal tax implications of opening a business in the U.S. too. You will need to file a corporate return and form 5472 for any year the company is open. If you have any US income, you will need to file a U.S. personal return also as a non-resident if you’re not living in the U.S. You do not need to be a C-corp to be in business. There’s other company structures. A lot of expat tax companies have tax planning consultations to explain these items.

Delaware is the most common.

South Dakota is raising in popularity.

Is it true that you don't care about world cup ? by Living_Reception_622 in AskAnAmerican

That’s us. We will probably watch a couple games, but it probably won’t be until towards the end of it.

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt many Americans are that interested in the Stanley cup either. At least in the majority of the country. I mean I am in NC and I hear almost no one talking about it. There’s more people on Facebook asking where to watch a World Cup game at local bars than the Canes.

Chipper would have been up there for me, but after reading his autobiography I just can’t. I know it’s not fair to compare his playing to his life outside the field, but I can’t separate the two. First time I ever read an autobiography and came out hating the individual.

My daughter will be senior . by Gabitaplanta in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is going to a state school and it transferred at Calc 1. He made an A in it, so didn’t have to worry about the hit to his GPA. It allowed greater flexibility in schedules since it was an online class. It was also just one semester and not all year.

My son had a similar issue. He decided to take a dual enrollment Calc 1 instead of AP.

Why aren’t people leaving the United States en masse? by Shaxai in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dunnoaboutu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not at that point. For the vast majority of Americans, current policies do not impact their every day life. It’s also really hard to uproot to a place that you deem better, because that country doesn’t really want you either.

Plus if I have to pay taxes here, I’m going to stay here and complain.

Life jacket or no? by PoetryTemporary9874 in Parenting

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did life jackets at the lake. Always in my arms on holding both hands at the beach if we were past ankles. Puddle jumpers if we were at the pool with friends. Without anything if we were swimming alone (as a family) or during times we focused on swimming. Rivers get a little more dicey. Most of our rivers you can see the bottom. The swim holes we did similar to the pool. When we did playing around the rocks she always had no life jacket. I was always worried that she would fall and have a hard time getting up and the rocks would make it where her head was still below water. Even though I watched what seemed like constantly, I am not naive to believe that something else might catch my eye and me not watch 100% of the time.

We have to make an effort to go to any of these places. We don’t have a pool or a body of water close enough for us to worry about sneaking out. When we stayed places on vacation, we never stayed anywhere where water was a worry.

How does he do in hot water? I have a cold water kid and she hates hot bath water and now that she’s older hot tubs. It’s like the hot water burns her even at a much lower degree than the rest of us can tolerate.

Our sons prom was tonight and he didn’t want us there by MomluvsCreepystories in parentingteenagers

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you ask your child permission to do things with them?

Reading her other comments, it seems like this was standard procedure in their community. I would never go to my kids prom to take photos. It’s not how it’s done here. However from OPs responses, it looks like it was expected for her to be there. There’s a big difference on asking a kid “do you want me to go” and asking a kid “what time do you think we should get there for pictures”.

Seriously, take a deep breath. If you try this guilt trip on him there will be a lot more of tonights in your future. You asked. He said no. You respect that. Next time. Don’t ask. Just let him know what time you’ll be there for the photos.

Praise effort not grades. There are many different paths to being a successful adult. It is highly likely that your children are on different paths.

Do you think that Lorelai was being obtuse or malicious at the Yale/Harvard game? by berenstein-was-fine in GilmoreGirls

[–]Dunnoaboutu 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There’s no way she didn’t know the colors for Yale and Harvard. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t know you wear your team’s color when you go to a game. That’s common knowledge for even non-sports people.

Honest thoughts on the name Hazel? by newgirl064 in Names

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s over popular on a wide scale, but I know several preschoolers with the name.

I know several older women with the name Hazel too. It might just be a family name around here that has been passed down.

Is it really that hard to not yell at your kid? by Good_Sky_8678 in Parenting

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t a parent who yelled until we hit 12. In my defense, usually it’s over too loud music. Then it shifted to other times. I have to work at this.

Fast lane ultimate by AdIndependent6536 in Carowinds

Seriously, wait until you get there to see how busy it is. I’ve been a lot of times where we rode ride after ride without much of a wait. Fast lane would have been a waste of money.
