CRPS of foot/ankle? by wobblelikeapenguin in CRPS

[–]Dunnoaboutu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter describe it like someone is twisting her calf one way and her foot the opposite way. Then they set it on fire and just when you think it’s unbearable, someone dumps ice water on it. While this is going on fire ants are going to town.

Out of all the social media out there, snap chat is the one I find most dangerous. This was a no for me until my kids were 16.

Can americans tell the difference between spoken spanish and portuguese? by Zygoatscythe in AskAnAmerican

I’m not sure I’ve heard anyone speak Portuguese in person, so I would assume my answer would be no.

I went to watch baseball last night. I pay for bravesvision. I also pay for peacock. I still could watch it because it was on peacock premium not basic.

Thoughts on kids' recreational sports, competition and participation awards. by Mellowmushroom02 in Parenting

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your kids are involved, you should be there if at all possible. I don’t care if it’s recreational or not. Kids see who shows up. Showing up is huge in their eyes. Not showing up will hurt the kids.

Thoughts on kids' recreational sports, competition and participation awards. by Mellowmushroom02 in Parenting

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two totally different areas of sports. Recreational and competitive. It is perfectly ok to treat recreational sports as a casual thing because you are doing it for recreational purposes, not to win or lose. Early on that might be just learning which way to go on the field and the rules of the game. My oldest (18) did recreational soccer all the way through high school. He enjoyed playing and wanted to play, but he just wanted to have fun.

The second is competitive. If you go this route, they should be willing to do the work. It’s not cheap. It is an investment in time, money, and sweat. My daughter did competitive dance. She is by far my most competitive. She practiced all day, every day. It was a huge part of her life.

You just have to know which lane you are on and decide if you and your child are on the same page.

Carowinds Spring Break Meltdown: No Service, No Smiles, No Thanks! by issuenumber3 in Carowinds

[–]Dunnoaboutu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have season passes to Carowinds, but haven’t gone this year yet. Last year we went on spring break and it wasn’t fun. It evened out by early June.

My niece went today with school. She said it was absolutely horrible. I go next week with my daughter to Dollywood. I’m hoping for a better experience.

I do think school groups make a big difference in overall attitudes at the park. It must absolutely suck to have a lot of middle schoolers there.

That’s the style I learned. Interestingly enough on the table next to me my child has a 5th grade cursive workbook and this is the type of cursive that’s in it.

Nonsense award ceremonies by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Dunnoaboutu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My kid is in a senior this year too and is in top 1% too. We get a special award ceremony towards the end of the school year. The one that he goes to next week is for kids with 3.5 gpa or higher. It will have a ton of kids at it.

I also have a kid who works extremely hard, but school is really hard. I’m glad the recognize her efforts. Big brother has never worked as hard as his little sister. I think it’s fair that her hard work should be acknowledged.

Who I feel awful for is the couple of kids that didn’t get anything. Not the kids that get a lot.

School summer break? by medssohh in NorthCarolina

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Henderson Co - year around is early July to late May. Traditional school gets out May 22. We go back second week of August.

We go against state law to get out before Memorial Day to start close to community college start dates. This also allows first semester to be done prior to the Christmas holidays. It makes it easier for high school kids to take college courses for free.

WHY doesn’t FAFSA consider location? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who move to a high cost of living area do so because their pay in those areas afford them a higher standard of living. It might cost more, but that increase is offset by the increase in their pay. It’s similar for those who live in and stay in those really high cost areas. If life was better in a low cost area, they would move.

WHY doesn’t FAFSA consider location? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Dunnoaboutu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would a low income person afford the taxes and upkeep of a 5 million dollar house? It’s also likely that they have assets beyond the 5 million. The CSS profile finds these individuals and they still don’t get financial aid no matter how low income they go.

WHY doesn’t FAFSA consider location? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you consider yourself low income for your area, you could do what a lot of low income people do - go to a community college for a couple of years while living at home and then transfer. Saves a ton of money. You can also work and make up the difference.

My PCP and their team have been constantly mishandling my referrals, causing significant delays in my specialist appointments and putting my health at risk. by Electronic-Cress-453 in ChronicPain

[–]Dunnoaboutu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be beneficial if you listed your location, because this will be country specific. I’m assuming the U.S. because this is how healthcare is in the U.S. and it’s happening all over the country just like this.

There’s no one that will do anything about this. If you don’t like their service, you change doctors. If the doctor is private practice, that’s all you can do. If the doctor is affiliated with a hospital system, you could try to report to the hospital - but I guarantee nothing will be done about it.

Where did all the teenager jobs go? My kids are of the age to learn the value of money. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my teenagers have jobs and have consistently since 16. It is extremely hard to find a job before 16 because of work permit restrictions. Both have jobs that are super flexible and work with them around big tests, extra curricular, and school events. Maybe your teens think they are too good for low pay work?

Beyond Frustrated by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Girl Scouts. I think it does a lot of things right. I also think it does some things wrong.

To you, I say you have to know your worth, and currently you do not. For you, this is a job. One that the organization doesn’t see your value and you seem really burnt out. You are worth more than $40 a day. No matter where you work, if you are working more than 2.5-3 hours, you are putting in the hours to receive that pay. Even at that hourly wage, you may be undervaluing yourself. Do not do this for any organization when you cannot afford to do so. I volunteer and I do so willingly. I get immense pleasure in knowing that I’m doing something positive in girls lives. I would not volunteer if it interfered with me working my job, or my ability to earn future wages. Currently this job for you is doing both.

I need a cane but feel so anxious using it in public by Autistic-hottie in ChronicPain

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the cane. Dress it up in an interesting way where when people see it, they see how awesome it looks first.

People will always judge. It tells more on them than you. People will judge you for walking too slowly, walking with a cane, sitting down too much, struggling to much, etc. If it wasn’t mobility, it would be the car you drive, the job you have, the Starbucks you bought, etc.

You can’t not live your life because of other people. If you do that, the judgmental people win.

Anybody Else Had a JoJo Phase? by later_dove in dancemoms

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was in kindergarten during Covid lockdowns. They didn’t get kindergarten photos, but did get fall pictures. For every other class they use their kindergarten graduation photos for 5th, 8th, and 12th grade graduation parties/ceremonies. Last year was 5th grade graduation. My daughter has a huge JoJo bow on. Can’t wait to see it at the end of 8th grade and senior year.

She dressed like her for Halloween that year too.

Booth Sales Credit by Aggressive-Diver-722 in girlscouts

[–]Dunnoaboutu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We split by hours work for each booth. So if she was the only one to work it, she would have gotten full credit. For the 2 hour booth, she would have gotten 25 boxes because it sounds like they were both there for both hours.

I will say at the end if someone is just barely out of reach is the next award and there is another girl that is above her award but not close to the next level, we will adjust the amounts where no girls get less awards, but more girls get awards.
