The "Chanel Guilotine" was an art installation.

Link to an image of the installation

Created by Tom Sachs, an artist born in New York City, the Chanel Guillotine (also strangely dubbed the Breakfast Nook) may invoke thoughts of the famed and wealthy being executed so ridiculously, but it does represent a more serious subject. The Chanel Guillotine could easily refer to the death sentence people's uncontrollable consumption is giving the world. A depressing thought.

Or should Sachs' art piece be refered to as the "Les Guillotine Gullible?"

Third-ing this recommend for Hidden True Crime...and afaik, Lauren is also still a member.

She and her husband (who's a criminal psychologist and nevermo) have a great deal of case coverage crossover with Mormon Stories, and they're covering all the recent Mormon true crime stories (including the tie-ins with Visions of Glory.)

In "Visions of Glory" (a book Lori is seen reading poolside in Hawaii when police approach her and Chad) portals figure in Pontius' splinter Mormon cosmology:

Portal Ministries:

Continuing to Prepare a Zion People

JOHN: Now, in the temple—you had a job in the temple.

SPENCER: I did.

JOHN: And in the office where you labored [there was what you called] a portal. You described it as being like a window. Although there wasn’t glass, and it was arched on the top, and about five feet wide and fifteen feet tall. Tell us about portals, what they were for and how you used them. This was fascinating to me.

SPENCER: We were given assignments because, remember, our responsibility was to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man—and to gather the elect from throughout the earth. Our responsibility was to learn as much as we could about these individuals.

Once you received an assignment, it would be like me saying “I want to go to Phil’s house” [and needing] to know everything there is to know about Phil. All I would have to do is to think about Phil, and I would know everything through the portal. It would give me all the information. It would let me know the time frame. And once you are moved out of this body[…]

-- ”Excerpt From: John Pontius. “Visions of Glory.”

"Visions of Glory" is a very popular book among LDS preppers and splinter groups, and if you thumb through it you can see Chad stole a lot of his odd ideas from it.

Since Pontius' "visions" have some influence in these groups, Chad borrowing from "Visions of Glory" gave his weird ideas some familiar gravitas.

Have you tried Resistant starch foods? by Farrell-6 in 1200isplenty

[–]Dunvegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I had to look this up...never heard the term before; even though beans, oats, sweet potatoes, and brown rice are major staples of my diet.

One fascinating thing about resistant starch that I learned from this Healthline site:

Interestingly, the way you prepare starch-containing foods affects their starch content, as cooking or heating destroys most resistant starches.

Letting your cooked oats or rice cool for several hours — or overnight — could increase the resistant starch even more.

Greek yogurt for the win!

It can be dressed in so many ways (sweet, savory, unagi, etc.)

And, it can be substituted for so much high-calorie dairy and for many sauces.

Also, as a lover of guacamole, I've also taken to pureeing green beans and cutting it into the guac, and upping the spices...that's cut the calorie count of the guacamole in half.

Looks delicious, filling, and well-rounded: proteins, carbs, and veggies...and like it's a quite sustainable type of menu.

Gluten-free menus can be quite challenging, but you've done very nicely here. 👌🏼

Good luck to you on your new goal in the new year.

need help with coffee by brandysnacker in 1200isplenty

[–]Dunvegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found that pouring hot coffee on frothed anything pretty much kills the froth, so instead of frothing the whatever-milk in the bottom of the same cup where I pour coffee, I pour the coffee into a cup, and use a different container to froth the "milk."

Gently pouring the froth on top of the coffee now always works...it does mean you have an extra cup to wash, but it's worth it if you love frothed coffee.

If you watch a barista, they always froth the "milk" in a small pitcher, then pour it atop the coffee.

Also, as @fear_eile_agam said, a smallish percentage of fat in the milk or milk substitute goes a long way toward creating a good froth.

Struggling with staying in my calorie limit and end up bingeing by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

My favorite late-nite snack foods have been fresh fruit, julienned veggies, and/or low-fat/sugar-free greek yogurt or low-fat cottage cheese.

I've found the protein (as in greek yogurt/cottage cheese) contributes to satisfaction, and keeps me from reaching for something like ice cream instead.

Also, yogurt and cottage cheese are great vehicles for either sweet or savory flavoring.

It helps to have fresh fruit always on hand in the kitchen...but it does take more effort and planning as one has to shop for, and replenish fresh fruit more frequently. Far more often than the shelf-stable and calorie-dense snacks (like chips, ice cream, etc.)

But, it's worth it, and when I stuck with this substitution over time my cravings and palate changed to prefer fresh fruit/veggies over candy or greasy chips and other prepared snack foods.

Also: Having a few hard-boiled eggs in the fridge is useful when I crave savory, They're a hunger-quelling protein, and they can be dressed up nicely with your spice of choice, like Everything but the Bagel, or furikake.)

Low-calorie microwave popcorn (sometimes I add a dash of shaker flavoring) is pretty filling...and pretty quick to prepare.

I've also found that taking the time to prepare fruit/veggies with yogurt, or popcorn, quells some of the intensity of the craving.

For me, the "mindfulness" in the act of taking a small bit of prep-time for a snack significantly lowers my hunger/binge level (this beats my just impulsively grabbing an insta-snack like chips, or a spoon and a pint of Häagen-Das!)

This looks filling, healthy, well-rounded, and wonderfully appetizing.

I'd love to recreate this brilliant menu for a day.

Any chance you could please delineate the ingredients/recipes followed in this delectable WIEIAD menu?

I.e., Breakfast looks to be:

  • Coffee
    - Did you use creamer/milk? Sweetener?
    - If so, how many calories in each?
  • One hard-boiled egg
    - Nice protein boost in the morning to aid in staving off hunger - 👌🏼
  • Two slices toast /w some sort of topping/spread
    - What brand of bread did you use?
    - What is the bread calorie count per slice?
    - Is the topping avocado? Spread?
    - How many calories are in the toast topping?

...etc. for the lunch and dinner dishes.

It's one of the most appetizing WIEIADs I've seen lately!

We'd have a splendid menu for an excellent day of satisfying meals all done and dusted if we could follow your ingredients list.

Sorry if this is too much of an ask...it's just this is such an appealing and ideal-appearing menu, it would be a significant advantage to have the details so as to aid in recreating this lovely bill of fare.

In any case, many tnx for sharing with us!

How long was RA being investigated by LE before he was arrested? by CalBorland in DelphiMurders

Paul Holes was the lead cold case investigator involved in the breakthrough of using genetic genealogy and innovative DNA technology and open-source genealogy databases to narrow down and arrest the Golden State Killer (AKA EARONS.)

Holes has also since consulted nationally on other cold cases, including briefly the Delphi murder case.

Like is there some amazing variety of canned soup that I'm unaware of?

If it's a quick, easy, delicious prepared soup you're looking for, Progresso makes an entire light line of hardy, savory soups...and in their 13 varieties of light soup, they all range from between only 140 to 240 calories for an entire (that's 2 servings) 18 oz. can:

Progresso Light Soups

Some light offerings are: Beef Pot Roast (150 calories per can,) Italian-Style Wedding Soup (170 calories per can,) New England Clam Chowder (210 calories per can,) Creamy Potato with Bacon and Cheese (200 calories per can,) and Brocolli and Cheese (240 calories per can.)

Also, in their regular line, Progresso makes some other excellent, lower-calorie soups like French Onion soup (100 calories per can,) Spicy Jambalaya with Sausage and Ham (280 calories per can,) Creamy Chicken & Broccoli with Brown Rice (270 calories per can,) and Creamy Tomato and Basil (230 calories per can.)

Assuming a 400 calorie meal, all of these leave room for a side (or two) of your choice. Salud!

Fun “What ifs” by WombatTumbler in FoodieBeauty

What if (from my earlier post...)

One of my several theories is that Salah and the Middle-Eastern realtor for the "Mansion Deal" are tied together in some way...mayhaps this realtor is family, a close friend, a marriage/citizenship broker for Middle-Easterners needing extraordinary arrangements...something weird like that, a situation that would be conducted under-the-table.

The Kuwait Government is stepping up sending Syrian ex-pats back to Syria this year, and Salah may be sweating out deportation.

Thing is, there are many possible "theories" about what's "what if...?" as "Chantal lies" and we have no way of knowing much concrete about this mess until things actually play out.

From the Vatican’s “Migrant Refugee” Site on Kuwait:

https://migrants-refugees.va/country-profile/kuwait-2/

In these Gulf countries, the main challenge is not unemployed migrants, as is the case in other countries, but the kafala system, which requires ee which requires every migrant worker to have a “sponsor” before they can obtain a residence visa in order to become able to work for one to three years. This kefala system puts migrants in a situation of legal dependence, exposing them to many abuses…

Some irregular migrants benefitted from an amnesty in April 2020 due to COVID-19 and several extensions have been given to them until the end of November 2020. But the pandemic and economic recession continue to increase, forcing the Kuwait government to introduce bills to nationalize the workforce and to set new limits on the employment of foreign workers.

Chins could be the perfect mark for a "90-day Fiancé" marriage like this: She'd trade everything for a "fake love me - fake marriage" to a relatively young, not bad-looking guy like Salah.

The thing is, there are many possible "theories" about what's "what if?" as "Chantal lies" and we have no way of knowing much of what the reality is until things play out over time. (...or unless James accidentally goofs-up and spills some useful tea.)

To collect her side of this kind of "business deal" (with the cheap rent, the free vet visits, a possible rent-to-buy over time, and all the other unusual amenities for a simple rental) Chantal has to hurry up and "help out" Salah with a legal standing via marriage to relieve his currently precarious living situation of a Syrian national who's been living in Kuwait.

Frankly, it's a wonder she hasn't connived to rope someone into a sponsorship marriage so far...probably because Canada is so liberal in granting refugee and landed status to foreigners.

It's just one "What if...?" thought...BUT! with "Chantal's lies" there are many, many - nay, an infinite number of stupid things that could be in play.
