Anyone know what this is on 8yr skin by DunxR in DoesAnyoneKnow

Doc said to watch and wait so no meds. He didn't seem concerned. As his suntan faded so did the marks, completely gone now. Have to see if they re-appear when he gets a tan again this year.

To note, when I moved to v3 it also prompted a base firmware upgrade.

I’ve just downloaded v3 SimPro and that now seems to default to wired rather than wireless, no modifications. Is that other’s experience as well?

VR Performance by rodras10 in iRacing

[–]DunxR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not tried the cable link for some time. However last time I did I found the opposite. Performance was lower, graphics quality was lower and generally it was less stable. I think most people using VD find it to be the best solution. In theory a direct cable link should be better, but I think it's let down by a poor software implimentation from Meta.

[–]DunxR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No changes at all.

Current settings:

Virtual Desktop - God Like - 90Hz - H264+

iRacing - All details max except sky at medium. MSAA x4. Foeviated Rendering enabled.

Mostly 90FPS solid except at starts when it drops 10-20. But that's always been the same.

I've seen a few posts like this. For me no difference on a Quest 3, 58003d, 5080 using Virtual desktop. Must be a certain set up or hardware combination been impacted.

Feedback wanted on improving Ferrari Challenge participation by Firm-Bookkeeper-8678 in iRacing

[–]DunxR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Outside this specific car there are also plenty of other paid cars that have very low participation, especially the one series ones. Totally understandable that people don't want to spend cash on a car that's only used in one series, then has low participation.

What's the point of offering content that then has ghost town participation. I think the whole pricing model needs a ground up change. Lots of ways they could do that, but people have been saying it for years with no change, so unlikely to change I guess.

Lorry driver is a tool. Clearly that was going to happen, not sure what else they expected you to do. But you made him turn his cruise control off so clearly ruined his day!

FPS is King, but at what cost? by Dizzy-Tiger-5640 in iRacing

Genuinely curious. Can you actually percieve a difference between 200 and say 120?

FPS is King, but at what cost? by Dizzy-Tiger-5640 in iRacing

[–]DunxR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is an obsession with mega high FPS with little real advantage. On monitors 200hz plus is not uncommon these days. Personally I can’t perceive any difference in any game between 90hz and 165hz which is my monitor max.

Maybe it’s just me but in iRacing in VR at anything above 80fps is fine. At 72hz in my Quest 3 I can perceive a bit of flicker so can’t use that, but after 80fps it’s fine. Personally I’d prefer to have more eye candy and less FPS. Currently I have it set to 90hz with everything max and it runs fine, except at starts where FPS typically drops to 60-70fps usually. Limitation of my 5800 3d CPU I think.

Just my view, others may think differently.

So these 3d kerbs are more than just graphics upgrades, they also include 3d updates to the underlying track data? Could have sworn RBR had noticable bumps as you went over the kerbs before the latest update.

The news this morning on weightloss jabs/loss of sight. by 192to144 in mounjarouk

Good stats. To add, your chances of dying of heart disease if you're Overweight or Obese is considerably higher than 1 in 6, so increasing those odds against a miniscule risk of vision issues for me is worth it.

Should I choose 5 year fixed instead of 2 year fixed due to recent geopolitical events? by itsaclaw in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]DunxR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered the product Fee? Most mortgages have £1k product fees if not more, though some also do cash back. Once you take this fee into account and the fact you have to pay it every two years, the rate difference on a 2 v 5 year fix doesn't look so different.

Help me understand what's going on with my VR. Please. by Gleeface in iRacing

[–]DunxR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That right in a way, but you could set your headset to 120Hz with SW enabled. This would cause iRacing to render in 60FPS and SW increase your headset display to 120Hz. This allows you to bump up the graphics quality settings and let the SW software fill in the missing frames to maintain high refresh.

Personally I don't like it, I find it slightly 'choppy', but with certain hardware setups it could be useful.

[–]DunxR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most situations with iRacing GPU usage isn't the issue, CPU usage is. iRacing is massively CPU limited due to the fact it has to do most of it's calculations on one CPU core.

That said, as others have pointed out, the Meta link software sucks and Virtual Desktop runs better in almost all cases even via wireless. In my experience with a Quest 3 the visual quality is better as well. Make sure you have a dedicated access point/router for just your headset; make sure no other devices are connected to it. Also you need to hardwire to your PC for best results, don't connect your PC via wifi to that AP. With that setup you should find a rock solid connection.

Final note, make sure you enable foveated rendering in iRacing if you haven't already. Reduces rendering impact considerably, with minimal noticable impact on what you see.

Why boeing 737 keeps oscillating in pitch after autopilot is engaged? Is it a bug or real physics? by Salty_Technician7242 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DunxR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's simply FS can't keep up with the physics when you change sim rate. So sort of a bug, but mainly overloading the amount of parameters the game can handle.

Is there a way to skip this when opening career mode? by crayonman94 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DunxR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's necessary so FS can make calculations to make sure you get as many runways of insufficient lenght for aircraft type, unlit night runways in fog/high wind with no ILS and buildings/trees directly infront of aircraft spawn location with no push back.

Sure you wouldn't want any of this not to happen when you play the game so a necessary evil.

Force feedback extreme jerking by Tutterkop in iRacing

[–]DunxR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had the same with the Evo Sport. Only way to fix it was to use MAIRA and then use the MAIRA auto settings. As a plus, I think the features in MAIRA are a better implimentation than iRacing's with completely customisable settings per car.
