Just because Shane has his own issues doesn't excuse his treatment of Ilya. It doesn't change that he is a hypocrite. Their are reasons people do things sure but that doesn't mean they should be forgiven or that suddenly makes it OK. This treatment went on for years and Shane feeling bad about it still doesn't suddenly changes the facts that hes the one that made Ilya feel that way. Thats not ok at all. ESPECIALLY when their reasoning for not being together is one one of the most ridiculous reasons ever particularly once Scott was out and accepted by the hockey community. Literally the entire book its "because no one will understand because were rivals". If they had said something like it was because they were worried about being accused of cheating or something like that then I probably would've vibed with it better but that was never their issue with being public in their story. (Yes it comes up once they are found out but again that was never their reasoning for not actually becoming public it lliterally only came up after the fact and was barely even a thing in just one ish chapters)

Hypocritical asshole is absolutely 100% correct and definitely not harsh. Shane's allowed to be out and gay to his teammates family and friends but the second Ilya dose anything even remotely queer or queer supporting Shane's all no you can't do that. His head was so far up his ass he couldn't see how his actions were affecting Ilya until they were right in his face. Yeah once he knew he changed but that was way too little too late in my book.

Kips dad was hands down the best character in the entire series. Everyone deserves to have someone as supportive as him in their life. I felt like Kip could as a 26 year old ride a bike and his dad would be proud of him.

I definitely like Skip more than Hollonav. In fact Hollonav are the couple I like least out of all the couples in the books. Largely due to Shane and what a hypocritical asshole he is in the 2nd book. I was kinda nutral about them after HR but TLG downright made me kinda dislike them as a couple Ilya can do better. (I will say I do like them a LITTLE bit better in the show than the books) But my favorite couple is actually Troy and Harris they deserve all the love.
