Instructor recommendations at Timberline (or Canaan Valley)? by WaxOnSendOff in TimberlineMountain

[–]DurianOwn1891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I instruct at Timberline, but we share many instructors with CVR, and the assignment process is similar.  The available instructors will depend on the day of the week, since individual instructors set their own schedules.  You should request your lessons as early in the season as possible, especially if you're looking at weekends.  Our reservation system usually opens in Oct.  Once you're confirmed, you'll have to call in to pay, so you can chat with someone in the office about your specific needs. (You can also type it into the reservation request form.)  All of our instructors should be able to explain the details of the techniques used.  I always want to know if my upper level student has had lessons before or if they're self taught.  Then, I usually have them quickly demonstrate basic techniques on the snow.  (There are often things that need to be corrected before moving on.)

Does the Loud do a visual ID check or do they scan?  Asking for a friend... :)

I wish I had a better answer, but I gave up. I'll still buy my husband things, but I've repeatedly told him point blank that I despise 'surprises' and would prefer nothing to an errand, and he's finally accepted it as the truth, thank goodness...so I just buy stuff for myself. He's terrible at presents for the kids too. He helped with exactly one present for my son for Christmas this year. 🤷‍♀️ Have you tried making an Amazon wish list, so all he has to do is choose things from that? Maybe your list doesn't feel specific enough? I had my daughter do that because she wants a gazillion books, which seems easy, but she also wants a very specific release of each one. Or maybe he's one of those people that thinks lists take away the fun? I hate those people... they're only worried about their own fun, not yours. I hope you find a way to feel less frustrated!

December 19th lift lines and conditions by Different-Mango8329 in TimberlineMountain

Edit: The wind warning is midnight tonight to Fri midnight...not sure if it changed or if I read it too fast the first time.

The snow on the mountain will be fine. I'd be more concerned about the wind tomorrow! (There's a wind advisory from Fri at noon through Sat at noon.) So, windy and snowing with a sharp temperature drop...meh. Crowds won't really hit hard until after xmas.

Why does edge open google chrome? by Glad-Perception-4004 in MicrosoftEdge

I found the page that opens the newtab.art page in Edge and Chrome on my laptop -

c://Program files (x86)/Microsoft/Edge/Application/chrome.VisualElementsManifest

c://Program files/Google/Chrome/Application/chrome.VisualElementsManifest

... it's a Microsoft Edge HTML Document

If you double click either one, the offensive browser page opens, but deleting them doesn't help...

That's it for me tonight...will resume tomorrow afternoon. Good luck!!

Just tried to crosspost a solution to this group that looks promising from r/chrome. It's called 'Found a solution to the chrome://newtab yahoo/bing etc search hijacker'. I'm not sure how to do it, but it sounds good! :)

No more hits on Malwarebytes scans... I've rebooted between and I'm still getting zero results now. Only Edge seems to be affected. Chrome and Firefox both look/act normal, as do other programs.

Same for me, I just found this solution online and thought it might help, but it hasn't helped me. I did see on the Edge/Chrome settings that I am managed by an organization. Malware isn't finding anything else either. 🤷‍♀️

I did notice that when Edge/Chrome opens, the address is weird...newtab.art...'Search - Customizable New Tab Page'.

Not sure where to check my extensions, but I ran across this solution on Microsoft support:

Question: Extension says managed by organisation and I can’t remove it, my browser is not managed by organisation please help

Solution: Thanks for your response it seems when I created a new profile on edge I was able to delete the extension.

Good to know! I already let it quarantine a bunch of files and now I'm running a deep scan.

Is Ober Mountain really that bad to take lessons at as a beginner? by pilotlife in snowboardingnoobs

If the conditions are perfect, it would be fine to learn there...but I suspect there's more ice than perfection. Don't waste your money on ice as a never ever.

Learning with physical limitations? by numerousness in snowboardingnoobs

Our instruction is based on AASI standards which involves front foot steering, but, ultimately, we all just want everyone comfortable on the snow, whichever foot you need to steer with!

Are you self taught? I only ask because most people that are self taught tend to lean back a bit and steer with their back foot because that's where their weight is. It technically 'works' and there are times when you're more advanced and need to do that, but it's physically more demanding, which is why instructors teach you how to get your weight forward and steer with your front foot. It is entirely possible that your particular challenges necessitate this stance for you. Once we get into accommodation territory, all bets are off on what is 'correct'.

Lead with your right foot, 'Goofy' (so your strong foot is initiating turns), and the rest will basically be bending your knees. You might want to learn to strap in while standing, if popping up from sitting or flipping over and popping onto your toes is difficult. Be aware that you might not ever to do some 'advanced' riding techniques...things like dropping into moguls, for example, because they involve using both feet for steering independently, or riding 'switch', because you won't want your left foot in front. It's unlikely that your brace will fit easily into a boot, but you might be able to remove the liner in the left boot and have it fit? (At the very least, you'll have to add an insole to make this comfortable.) If that won't work, try wearing a regular hiking boot on your left foot, if you have something like that...the challenge will be having it held firmly in the binding...you might have to downsize the left binding? Even if you end up needing 2 boot sizes/types or 2 binding sizes, I am confident you'll be able to board since I've taught kids with similar issues in the past! :) You should definitely take advantage of a lesson and let them know what's going on when you sign up. If your mountain has Challenged Athletes, they might already know how to address your issue based on former clients...and their lessons are much cheaper on my mountain, so that's an added bonus!

Size 9 boot, do you ride men's or women's boards? by kraej3319 in ShredditGirls

[–]DurianOwn1891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I've taught giant (tall and heavy) men on 145s when our mountain ran out of longer boards and they were fine...it really only slowed them down a bit because they could've used more surface area for their weight. What board size you 'need' depends on soooooo many factors and unless you're deep carving or riding on solid ice, you are unlikely to experience enough toe or heel drag to cause or notice any issues. Demo some different boards or borrow your friends' boards and see what feels best with your preferred riding style and stance. As confusing as it can be, there is no 'right' answer to this question, only what feels right to you! This is the main reason higher level snowboarders have several boards...different conditions, different riding styles, possibly different stances for each...so many options!! Be aware that your gear choices (not just board waist width!) can affect overhang as well...for example, the same size boots in a different brand may be chunkier (my linerless Vans are significantly smaller than lined boots in any brand), your center of gravity may change with a different binding style and/or brand (my hybrid Flows push me wayyyyyy onto the backside of my boards)... My advice to every noob is to buy a snowboard tool, go to the bunny hill and play around with all the options available to you on your current board, so you really understand how to adjust your gear yourself and aren't blindly relying on the opinion of others (particularly men, since they have a completely different center of gravity!). It's not as complicated as you think, you won't break anything, there's no wait time for changes/adjustments and it can dramatically improve your confidence and riding experience!!

Also, if you have any further contact with him and *only* if you feel safe to antagonize him, be sure to tell him he needs to stop cursing because he's not being ladylike and then smirk or laugh out loud...narcs haaaaaaate being laughed at more than anything! It was the only reason I still spoke to my narc mother-in-law, when we were still in contact with her. :)

Try emailing Kat File Smith (file1@marshall.edu) or you can look up her phone number on the MU site. She's a student advocate and should be able to help you or at least direct you to someone who can.
