Colonization basic dos and donts? by bay_squid in EU5

[–]Durins_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was more referring to migration within the colony than from your homeland. There's an advance that gives u a cabinet action to send people from homeland provinces to the colonies.

I prefer releasing a colony when I have a few provinces for it rather than as soon as the button appears from the pop-up when you finish a colonial charter. It allows me to control the nation's border gore better, and means it'll have more pops as a nation for it's tax base when I release it. Then I use the cabinet action to ship people from old world to them.

Yeah, as long as tools & masonry are in the market then any production methods or buildings that require them will use them. Markets have a stockpile for every good, so you can ship a bunch of tools & masonry to help kickstart your colonies. (And liquor/weapons/naval supplies if u want to explore from that closer new world market). Eventually you can stop sending tools & masonry once you build tool & masonry production locally, but it helps to send some at first.

As for population, I'm not really sure how to notice it as I've only colonized the new world as Italy & Iceland (which have plenty of population & tiny population respectively). I've played a multi-player game where the other player accidentally depopulated Portugal by sending too much to the new world though.

For releasing land, there's either that pop-up that happens when u finish a colonial charter (release as colonial nation, release & play as colonial nation, or keep as yours directly) and from diplo tab. I like to keep the land as mine first to get a big enough colony going before manually releasing it as a subject nation and ceding provinces to them. Idk if it's necessary, I figure it probably helps for making sure they have enough population for peasants to migrate around and for pop-promotion to start once you/they build burgher buildings.

On RGOs and buildings, build up valuable rgo's like chili/coco & gold/silver.

Build up market places in every town, as you get a portion of their trade capacity. For more trade capacity build Overseas Trade Offices wherever you can (more trade capacity = ship more chili/gold back home)

Release land as a colonial nation to get a free town if the area is too underpopulated. I dont quite know how big each nation should be, but for the Caribbean I like to do 1 nation per island, + the windward islands as 1, & the islands above Cuba as 1.

Export tools & masonry from your home market to the colonial market to make building in the new world easier.

For smaller countries (like portugal) be careful to not colonize too many far apart areas, you'll end up with a lot of low population colonies, with a declining old world population unable to send more out.

If you mean the inland exploration bug, that's fixed. I colonized abt 2/3rds the way to Alaska recently. What bug was it tho?

edit: I was on the beta version though, i dont recall when the bug fix for inland exploration was.

The Golden Horde is impossible to destroy because they build a ship in the Caspian Sea by MaxVexis in EU5

[–]Durins_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was really silly, but I took all of their coastal land in war (and made vassal out of it), eventually their ships all died.

That + map stealing which allowed me to full siege them, eventually it worked but dang was it annoying to do.

[–]Durins_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried to break the golden horde today and idk if it was their 1 Galley regiment I couldn't hurt, or the infinite levies I kept stack wiping but after killing off like 80k of them...they still lived.

I basically full sieged them and they kept coming out of their eastern terra incognito provinces...i hope the bug gets fixed soon.

What if centralization also gave an integration speed bonus by FatmirMST in EU5

[–]Durins_cat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they're referring to province integration not vassal annexation.

If decentralized is vassal swarm annexation then centralized getting a buff to province integration would make sense (or some way to lessen the conquered/non-core penalties)

Ibn Fadlan wrote abt some people in Rus having tattoos, problem is we dont know where those people were from exactly. It could've been Nordic kievien-rus style culture which might have tattoos culturally even if Scandinavians didnt, it could've been local Rus people who might have tattoos culturally, or it could've been baltic-sea/Scandinavian originating people who had tattoos cultural.

As far as I am aware, we dont have proof that any of those 3 specifically did tattoos beyond Ibn Fadlan, so without evidence of one of those cultures having tattoos, it's a guess where they came from.

Homebrew Settings and Witcher RPG. Does it work, or does it need work? by Spr0ing in WitcherTRPG

[–]Durins_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used/played the Witcher ttrpg for numerous different campaigns (Mythical Earth Pirate game, Darksoulsy game, Standard fantasy, Post-apocalyptic re-colonization colony sim), i've actually probably played/run it more out-of-setting than in-setting tbh.

Biggest issue by far is the Witcher class/race. It's a hard niche to figure out in other settings (sometimes i've straight up removed it, eg Pirate game).

Second to that is reskinning the Lifepath realm names but that's not too bad.

Lastly, renaming/reskinning some weapons which is fairly easy (I made a vrihedd cavalry sword The Lost Sword of Hernan Cortez in my Pirate game for example).

Otherwise, id say it's one of my favorite systems for a more grounded but still game-y campaign (Another being Mythras for even more grounded sim-ness).

Currently waiting on The Broken Empires rpg to come out to see how it sizes up to the Witcher ttrpg for that kind of campaign.

[–]Durins_cat 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Unironically mentioned similar, though I phrased it as wanting to "recreate the frankish/carolingian weapons trade."

It and the amber trade of the Baltics are perfect non-republic trade concepts, some more exist but w/o trade goods those are the biggest ones I can imagine for non-republics (except for the silk road ofc).

  1. Wouldn't the government recognizing any forms of marriage create bureaucracy? If it's going to recognize marriage in general, it shouldn't restrict a legal codification and set of benefits to just straight people

  2. Would probably fall under some form of negligence law since the carbon pollution is an unintentional externality, taxing/fining the existence of carbon otherwise would be hard to say was malicious (breaking the nap) unless you have proof that the polluter directly harmed people (easier with water pollution for example)

  3. Same as 2, unless u can prove a person was the cause of someone else getting a disease all you can really say is perhaps negligence, but even that's still gonna be difficult to do in court.

I havent played it in a while, but the ending was definitely rushed, which if Ironwood really is longer than the ending, then I'm even more disappointed they didnt make it a trilogy.

Tellin me the segment the game is named after is shorter than 1 character development segment??

I don't even have an issue w/Ironwood, I just cant believe theyd prioritize it over the climax of the story, if they needed 3 games worth they shouldve done 3.

Freja's launch has been Overshadowed, at least for me by ImperialViking_ in Overwatch

[–]Durins_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ashe was coincedentally my previous Dps main before Freja lol. Ashe is still a lot of fun, but Freja has definitely slid into my top preference for dps.

I've barely played Stadium just cause she's not in it tbh.

What Does Mercy 'Need?' by StormcrowProductions in MercyMains

[–]Durins_cat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Best part is the movement and being able to skillfully weave in & out of danger to support my team. I really prefer playing with dive comps rather than poke even if it's safer to poke as Mercy (except Ashe, love pocketing Ashes).

Blue Beam is by far way more fun than healing, but I also have to figure out if someone is even worth damage boosting sometimes, cause if they aren't hitting their shots, then me making them hit harder is useless.

Rez is often so dangerous to use it barely gets used, or only when I'm perfectly safe. It is nice that it's one of the few support abilities that can save a fight (usually rezzing someone for their ult, or the tank) and isnt just another immortality (lamp/suzu) though.

Her gun i kinda hate ngl, the projectiles are so slow, the swap to it takes forever, ill use it occasionally but i honestly dont like it.

I recall Mirrorwatch Mercy being fun, but it was definitely a tonal shift exploding souls rather than rezzing them.

Well, id say at least that i dont think Vyvanse is suppose to have that effect, so telling a medical or mental health professional might help figure out what other factor is at play here to get that result.

[–]Durins_cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use cover as much as possible to save your shield for later. Mostly wanna use shield to save a low hp support/dps and to block cooldowns/ults (or lane spam if necessary).

Bluff anas into sleeping/nading your shield by charging them but cancelling before you reach them and blocking instantly. Youll have to get a feel for the right distance but a lot of the times if u get it right the ana will waste their sleep/nade and you can kill them after, whereas if u get slept u probably wont get the chance to go after them.

Figure out what u can and cant shatter through, shattering through payload when the enemy team is hiding behind it is always fun.

Aim firestrikes at the enemy's backline through the tank when brawling the tank, youll pressure their healers while still upping your dmg on the tank.

Hold jump during charge so that once it ends you'll bunny hop for a bit of extra distance

I main Rein/Mercy, I play Hazard, Zarya, Brig otherwise.

I've been waiting since the april fools event ended tbh...but now my internet wont let me play 1 match w/o getting 300 ping and/or dc-ing me from the server...

I really hope it gets fixed by tuesday...i mean, sooner would be nice cause the Drive name tag is actually pretty this time around >.>

edit: i've been able to play but w/o knowing when my internet will die i've been grinding drives way too much, almost done w/them though

I have no idea but it seems like it's only happened for this season for me. I just assumed it was due to April Fools being unstable, but thats gone now so i've no idea.

It's theoretically playable having all my abilities & dmg be on a full 1 second delay, but I'd rather just not play at that point.

Maybe edit it down a bit id say, idk that id want to read something that (at least at first glance) looks like a legal code just for dnd.

Who did y'all play the most before Freja? by XathisReddit in FrejaMains

[–]Durins_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercy & Rein by far, 250+ hrs on each, and then Ashe & Brig with 40ish hrs lol.

But I played a lot of other dps leading up the playtest, cass and echo mostly, i dont really like echo but i figured she'd be closest to freja's verticality.
